The gravity anomaly is a basic geophysical data applied in various fields such as geophysics, geodesy and national defense. In general, the gravity anomaly is used through a interpolation process based on the constructed database. The gravity variation, however, is appeared in various shapes depending on the topography and the density of the underground structures. Therefore, the interpolation could lead to a large differences if the gravity fields do not satisfy the assumptions on the signal behavior like linear or a certain degree polynomials. Furthermore, the interpolation does not reflect the physical characteristics of the gravity such as the harmonic condition. In this study, the gravity modeling using the plane Fourier series and radial basis functions are performed to overcome the problems in the usual interpolation. The results of the modeling is analyzed for the case of the gravity referenced navigation focused on the signal characteristics. Based on the study, it was found that the results from modeling are not much different to that from the interpolation in a smoothly varied area. In case of the highly varied area, however, a large differences are appeared among the three methods. Especially, the Fourier series shows the most smooth variations in the modeled gravity values while the highest variations appeared in the interpolation. Applying to the gravity referenced navigation, it was found that the modeling is more effective in calculation cost. It is considered that the results from this study provides a basis on effective modeling of the gravity fields in terms of the signal characteristics and resolution for various application fields.

The wastewaters from textile and dyeing industries are difficult to treat due to its high pH, temperature, color intensity and non-biodegradable organic contents. This study investigated the removal of recalcitrant organics in a dyeing wastewater by using a packed bed reactor (PBR) that contained cell-immobilized pellets. The feed, obtained from an effluent of a biological treatment plant, had $SCOD_{Cr}$ of 330 mg/L and $SBOD_5$ of 20 mg/L on average. In immobilizing the cells to a Polyethylene Glycol(PEG) based medium, activated sludges from either a sewage treatment plant or an industrial wastewater treatment plant were used. When the empty bed contact time (EBCT) was above 8 hrs in the PBR, the $COD_{Cr}$ removal efficiency was over 50% and the $COD_{Mn}$ concentration was 72 mg/L or lower on average, which was substantially lower than the discharge standard of 90 mg/L. The results indicated that the optimum EBCT in the PBR was 8 hrs. The PBR with cell-immobilized pellets was effective as an advanced treatment process after an activated sludge process for treating dyeing wastewaters.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors affecting the treatment results of medial meniscus posterior horn tear. Materials and Methods: Forty seven patients who had been performed the arthroscopic surgery for medial meniscus posterior horn tear were enrolled in this study. We analyzed the clinical outcomes with Lysholm score and Tegner activity score in accordance with the factors such as patients' age, tibiofemoral angle, uptake in bone scintigraphy, surgical methods and patterns of meniscal tears, respectively. Results: The patients' age didn't affect to the results, but the preoperative tibiofemoral angle over valgus $4^{\circ}$ and the preoperative normal uptake in scintigraphic assessment showed a positive influence on the clinical outcomes. The partial meniscectomy and repair in surgical methods had no statistically significance. In addition, the pattern of meniscal tear did not have an effect on the clinical results. Conclusion: We can conclude that many factors should be considered to get satisfactory results. Among them, preoperative bone scintigraphy may be a good assessment factor for the postoperative prognosis, reflecting the condition of meniscal tear and the periarticular bone and soft tissue.
Among current health-related issues, obesity is considered one of the foremost, and the importance of this subject has fostered a national interest in body weight loss. In this study, the differences in recognition of body weight loss according to age and gender are investigated. The subjects of the study were 720 (male: 360 and female: 360) aged between 10-60 years, who had experienced to try body weight loss during 6 months prior to this study. Anthropometrics, general characteristics, personal reasons for body weight loss, comprehension of body weight loss, and a knowledge of diet-related issues were assessed through a questionnaire. The anthropometric measurements showed significant differences in height, body weight (present and desired) and BMI (p < 0.05) by age and gender. The difference between desired body weight and actual body weight was greater for younger subjects or female, regardless of whether they had under- or normal body weight (p < 0.05). Reasons for body weight loss varied; younger subjects and female tended to lose body weight "to enhance their appearances", whereas the older subjects and male desired "to improve their health" (p < 0.05). Subjects had different concepts concerning body weight loss; younger subjects and female considered body weight loss as "maintenance of a slender figure, or becoming more lean". On the other hand, older subjects and male thought body weight loss to be "effects approaching normal body weight" (p < 0.05). From our studies, it can be concluded that attitude on concerning body weight loss varied according to a age and gender. Thus, consideration of this individual differences would be vital in developing contents of a particular nutritional education program for body weight loss.

The authors studied psychotic ism, using Derogatis's SCL-90, in the subjects of 3,499 male and 1,335 female college freshmen of Yeungnam University. The authors collected the reports of Self-Rating Psychoticism Scale during the periods from January to February, 1986, and applied ANOVA and t-test on psychoticism scores in order to compare them between various psychosocial factors, and sexes. The results are as follows : There was significant difference in the mean averages of total psychoticism socres between male and female students: male students scored 4.62+4.01, female students scored 5.03+3.89(P<0.01). Thirteen male students(0.4%) showed high psychoticism scores of 20 or higher, while seven female students(0.5%) showed the same scores. The male students who have maturated in city and the female students whose educational fees were paid by self, showed higher level of psychoticisrn scores(P<0.05). The male and female students who believed protestantism showed higher level of psychoticism scores(respectively P<0.05, P<0.01). There was a strong tendency toward higher psychoticisrn scores in the students who were dissatisfies with their home atmosphere, college, department and familiarity of parents and those who had pessimistic views of self in the past, present or future in both groups(P<0.001).
Male Sprague-Dawley rats received either a cholesterol diet (Control group) or cholesterol diets supplemented with the water-extracted of leaves from Morus alba (MA group) or Cudrania tricuspidata (CT group) at the level of 1% for 2 weeks. The concentration of serum triglyceride was significantly lower in the CT group and was also lower in the MA group than in the control group. The liver cholesterol concentration was significantly lower in the MA group than in the control group, but not significantly different between the CT group and the control group. The concentration of phospholipid in serum was an increasing tendency in the MA group and was a decreasing tendency in the CT group compared to that in the control group. Body weight gain, food intake, food efficiency, the concentrations of triglyceride and phospholipid in liver, and the total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and glucose in serum were not significantly different among dietary groups. These results suggest that the water-extracted from leaves of Morus alba and Cudrania tricuspidata exerts a hypotriglycerolemic effect in the cholesterol-fed rats.

To characterize the recent outbreaks of canine distemper (CD) in Korea, we carried out epidemiological investigations by clinical observations, serum neutralizing (SN) antibody titer determination and RT-PCR on the 315 dogs which were clinically suspected as canine distemper virus (CDV) infection. One hundred and sixty two of 315 dogs were infected with CDV. Breed or gender did not seem to have effects on the prevalence of CD. The major part of dogs were in young age from 6 weeks to 18 weeks of age, and were not vaccinated or incompletely vaccinated. Clinical signs of dogs with CD were multi systemic and extremely variable. Dogs died from CD had significantly more ocular signs and neurologic signs than those of dogs survived (p<0.05). The SN titers against CDV of 157 (96.9%) dogs were under 1:16, which is less than protective level. One possible explanation for recent outbreaks of CD in Korea might be low antibody titers against CDV because of vaccination failure. Therefore, to reduce the impact of virulent infection in the dog population, dogs should be vaccinated adequately and prophylactic measures should include isolation of young dogs from the dog population until vaccination can be expected to provide protection.
Gelatin films containing grapefruit seed extract (GSE) were prepared by incorporating different amounts (0, 0.6, and 1.0%, w/v) of GSE into film-forming solutions. Film elongation was improved by the addition of GSE, but film tensile strength decreased to 31.96 MPa for film containing 1.0% GSE, compared with 46.39 MPa for the control. Incorporation of 1.0% GSE inhibited the growth of pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Listeria monocytogenes. Packaging of strawberries with a gelatin film containing 1.0% GSE decreased the levels of total aerobic bacteria and yeast/molds after 12 days of storage by 1.60 and 1.43 log CFU/g, respectively, compared with control values. Sensory evaluation results indicated that packaging of strawberries with GSE-gelatin film resulted in better sensory scores than those of the control. These results indicate that strawberries can be packaged using gelatin film containing GSE, to extend shelf-life.

A graft copolymer consisting of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) backbone and poly(hydroxyethyl acrylate) (PHEA) side chains was synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Direct initiation of the secondary chlorines of PVC facilitates grafting of hydrophilic PHEA monomer. This graft copolymer, i.e. PVC-g-PHEA was cross-linked with sulfosuccinic acid (SA) via the esterification reaction between -OH of the graft copolymer and -COOH of SA, as confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. Ion exchange capacity (IEC) continuously increased to 0.87meq/g with increasing concentrations of SA, due to the increasing portion of charged groups in the membrane. However, the water uptake increased up to 20.0wt% of SA concentration above which it decreased monotonically. The membrane also exhibited a maximum proton conductivity of 0.025 S/cm at 20.0 wt% of SA concentration, which is presumably due to competitive effect between the increase of ionic sites and the crosslinking reaction.
A time scale modification method yielding rate-modified speech while conserving the characteristic of speech was implemented in real-time using a goneral purpose digital signal processor. Time scale modification changed pronunciation speed only, producing a time difference between the input signal and the modified signal, making it impossible to implement it in real-time. In this thesis, a system was implemented to remove the time difference between the input and modified signals. Speech signals slowed down or speeded up by a physical time scale modification method, such as adjusting the motor speed of the cassett tape recorder, was used as the input signal. Physical modification that controled only the inter speed of the cassette tape player distorted the pitch period of the original speech. In this study, a real-time system was implemented so that the pitch-distorted speech was reconstructed back to the original by fractional sampling pitch shifting using an FIR filter, and this signal was time scale modified to match the cassette tape recorder motor speed using SOLA time-scale medification. In experiments using speech signals medifiedby the proposed method, results obtained using a 16-bit resolution ADSP2101 processor and using computer simulations employing floating point operations showed about the same average frame signal-to-noise ratio of about 20 dB.
