  • This paper describes issues of GPS network adjustment to determine coordinate sets of the $2^{nd}$ order national geodetic control points based on the Korean Geodetic Datum (KGD2002) which has been newly adopted in 2003, After outlining theoretical background of the GPS network processing, the adjustment procedure applied for this project is detailed. Throughout performing a series of minimally constrained adjustments, some outliers have been removed and magnitude of absolute and relative error for a stochastic modeling has been determined as 4mm+0.4ppm and 8mm+0.8ppm in the horizontal and vertical component, respectively. The over constrained adjustment by fixing the $1^{st}$ order control points was performed to derive final solution, indicating that the accuracy of the estimated coordinates was 2cm and 4cm in the horizontal and vertical component.

  • This paper deals with issues of GPS network adjustment for the purpose of determining the $3^{rd}$ order national geodetic control points based on the Korean Geodetic Datum which has newly adopted in the country since early 2003. After examining and arranging all the observations, GPS baseline analyses were performed to estimate baseline vectors between two control points. All the observations were divided into 17 block networks in order to accelerate the adjustment efficiency. After applying a minimally constrained adjustment technique to each of the block networks for the sake of detecting outliers and examining network precision, over constrained adjustments by fixing all of the $2^{nd}$ order control points within the block network were carried out to derive final coordinate sets. The final solutions indicated that the accuracy of the adjusted coordinates was better than 1cm and 2cm in the horizontal and vertical component, respectively.

  • Seven techniques widely used in the geodetic transformations have been reviewed and compared to figure out their theoretical characteristics. A series of numerical tests were performed about four data sets. This was followed by result analyses in terms of transformation residuals and accuracies together with some hypothesis testings based on the student-t distribution to confirm the statistical significance of the techniques. In the case of the transformation between the geodetic frames implemented in the same system, no statistical significance was revealed in the results of the 3D transformation techniques, even if the testing area becomes large as the Asia-Oceania continent. Among the 2D transformations, it was possible for the NTv2 grid modeling technique to deliver improved transformation accuracy. Finally, it was possible from the results analyzed in this study to propose the Helmert transformation to geodetic control points and the NTv2 technique to the 2D spatial data transformation of the geodetic systems.

  • Cadastral control points in Korea are refered to various origins, for example an early separated small triangulation, a separated small triangulation, a separated control surveying origin and an unified origin. Cadastral map with early separated small triangulation origin have difficulties to connect with national GIS data by refered an unified origin. We determined transformation parameters from old origin to unified origin using 2D conformal transformation method. To evaluate of transformation accuracy, we compared with GPS field surveying results. And we experiment on coordinate transformations with unified results between the local geodetic datum and the new Korea geodetic datum.

  • In order to provide the new official coordinates set of Korean Geodetic Primary Framework, the data of Precise Primary Geodetic Network (PPGN) were reviewed and validated in the project and block adjustment stage. Moreover PPGN data set was constructed for various computer processings. The simultaneous least squares adjustment was carried out to assess the net strength, local weakness and accuracy of PPGN and to evaluate the horizontal displacements of the resin of Korean peninsula. Finally, the precise horizontal coordinates set of 1st and 2nd order triangulation points of Korea was computed and presented.

  • A rapidly developed satellite technology is used in comprehensive fields such as spatial data aquisition and applications. Especially a GPS positioning is expected to reinvigorate at the national reference system changes to ITRF (International Terrain Reference Frame). Currently the National Geographic Information Institute (NGII) issues a triangulation point coordinate by separating old and new coordinates and in the year of 2007 it will be scheduled to be changed ITRF. The triangulation point coordinate in Cheju area causes some problems due to the difference original observation and re-observation. Thus in this study a GPS observation is conducted after re-organizing geodetic network based on 1st and 2nd order triangulation in order to check the current triangulation points in Cheju area. After the GPS observation data analysis, stable points were extracted, proposed a geodetic network and its application.

  • A satellite positioning system has been recently introduced in Korea and the applications of the system are in-creasing gradually, and it is, therefore, interested in the geocentric coordinate system. In this paper, the requirements of the redefinition of the Korean geodetic system which is suited to the geocentric datum and the strategies for the establishment of new geodetic networks are considered. It is also taken into account to maintain the control points, in the transition from the old coordinate systems to a new coordinate system.

  • GPS baseline analysis is a mathematical procedure which estimates a baseline vector from carrier-phase double-differenced observations. Least squares technique is generally applied for the processing and integer ambiguities in the observations should be resolved to obtain maximum accuracy of the solution. In GPS control surveying, after assembling the baseline solutions into a network, adjustment is performed to derive final coordinate sets of unknown points. This paper deals with details of GPS baseline analysis for the $2^{nd}$ order national geodetic network adjustment. After reviewing GPS campaigns carried out by National Geographic Information Institute (NGII) and their observations. technical issues and considerations for the GPS baseline analysis are presented with emphasis of selecting the processing strategies and software. Finally, the analyzed results will be evaluated by examining the close of figures formed by joining the processed baseline vectors.

  • The empirical method is used to integration adjustment for the coordinates revision of a national control point but the existing values are not to be changed or changed with small variation by suitable datum selection (for example, fixed points). This paper treats the modified weighted station parameter adjustment by quasi-observations, and the method used only variance elements of existing coordinates which is substituted for all covariance elements. The movement detection of unstable points and the junction adjustment of new networks are successfully executed by the method, in integration of new secondary networks to old-secondary-triangulation points which are in the absence of the original observations in Korea. The investigation results reveal that the accuracy of old-secondary-triangulation points is ${\pm}16^{{\prime}{\prime}}$(${\pm}0.08m$), which results from the densification of test network and the analyses of old survey specifications. and is ${\pm}2.3^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ in fixing of old-secondary-triangulation points.
