  • This paper presents a conceptual design and analysis for a 1-kW-class high-temperature superconducting rotating machine (HTSRM) rotor. The designed prototype is a small-scale integration system of a HTSRM and a HTS contactless rotary excitation device (CRED). Technically, CRED and HTSRM are connected in the same shaft, and it effectively charges the HTS coils of the rotor field winding by pumping fluxes via a non-contact method. HTS coils in rotor pole body and toroidal HTS wire in CRED rotor are cooled and operated by liquid nitrogen in cryogen tank located in inner-most of rotor. Therefore, it is crucial to securely maintain the thermal stability of cryogenic environment inside rotor. Especially, we critically consider not only on mechanical characteristics of the rotor but also on cryogenic thermal characteristics. In this paper, we conduct two main tasks covering optimizing a conceptual design and performing operational characteristics. First, rotor parameters are conceptually designed by analytical design codes. These parameters consider to mechanical and thermal performances such as mechanical strength, mechanical rigidity, and thermal heat losses of the rotor. Second, mechanical and thermal characteristics of rotor for 1-kW-class HTSRM are analyzed to verify the feasible operation conditions. Hence, three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D-FEA) method is used to perform these analyses in ANSYS-Workbench platform.

  • Consider the system (i) x'=Ax. Let ${\Phi}$ be its fundamental matrix solution. If there is w>0 such that A(t+w)-A(t) commutes with ${\Phi}$ for all t, then we call this system a "generalized" Floquet system or a "G. F. system". We show that $A(t+w)-A(t)=B_1$=constant if and only if $A(t)=C+B_1t/w+Q(t)$, Q is periodic of period w>0. For this A(t) We prove that if all eigenvalues of $B_1$ have negative real parts, then the origin is asumptotically stable. We find a growth condition for a continuous D(t) which guarantees that all solutions of z'=[A(t)+D(t)]z are bounded if all solutions of the G. F. system (i) are bounded. Combining the foregoing results yield a class of perturbed G. F. operators all of whose solutions are bounded.

  • In this paper, structural design for 2kW class composite blade is performed by using design of experiment(DOE). A full factorial design is applied to meet the design specifications at the manufacturing process. The analysis of variance(ANOVA) is made in order to determine the significance of effects in an analysis. Structural analysis by using of commercial software ABAQUS is performed to compute the displacement and safety factor of filament wound composite blade. The results show that the proposed method is suitable to analyze the factors at the design of wind turbine blade.

  • In this research, numerical analysis was carried out on novel and existing fins, adjusted in terms of factors such as length, spacing, and angle, of a high-temperature heat exchanger for a 1 kW class Stirling engine, designed as a prime mover for a domestic cogeneration system. The performance improvement as a result of shape optimization was confirmed with numerical analysis by including the air preheater, which was not considered during optimization. However, a negative heat flux was observed in the cylinder head portion. This phenomenon was clarified by analyzing the exhaust gas and wall surface temperature of the combustion chamber. Furthermore, assuming an ideal cycle, the effects of heat transfer enhancement on the thermodynamic cycle and system performance were predicted.

  • In this study we have examined the probability of solar proton events (SPEs) and their peak fluxes depending on flare (flux, longitude and impulsive time) and CME parameters (linear speed, longitude, and angular width). For this we used the NOAA SPE list and their associated flare data from 1976 to 2006 and CME data from 1997 to 2006. We find that about 3.5% (1.9% for M-class and 21.3% for X-class) of the flares are associated with SPEs. It is also found that this fraction strongly depends on longitude; for example, the fraction for $30W^{\circ}$ < L < $90W^{\circ}$ is about three times larger than that for $30^{\circ}E$ < L < $90^{\circ}E$. The SPE probability with long duration (${\geq}$ 0.3 hours) is about 2 (X-class flare) to 7 (M-class flare) times larger than that for flares with short duration (< 0.3 hours). In case of halo CMEs with V ${\geq}$ 1500km/s, 36.1% are associated with SPEs but in case of partial halo CME ($120^{\circ}$ ${\leq}$ AW < $360^{\circ}$) with 400 km/s ${\leq}$ V < 1000 km/s, only 0.9% are associated with SPEs. The relationships between X-ray flare peak flux and SPE peak flux are strongly dependent on longitude and impulsive time. The relationships between CME speed and SPE peak flux depend on longitude as well as direction parameter. From this study, we suggest a new SPE forecast method with three-steps: (1) SPE occurrence probability prediction according to the probability tables depending on flare and CME parameters, (2) SPE flux prediction from the relationship between SPE flux and flare (or CME) parameters, and (3) SPE peak time.

  • The present study has been conducted to develop a heat recovery system for a 1 MW class gas engine based cogeneration system. In the cogeneration system, heat is recovered from two parts, which are jacket water and exhaust gas. The heat from the jacket water is recovered by a plate type heat exchanger and used for the room heating and/or hot water supply. The heat from the exhaust gas is used to generate steam. For both of the heat recovery devices, 1/5 scaled tests are performed and the data are compared to the conventional correlations for the design.

  • In order to satisfy the diffusion of multimedia service in mobile communication and the demand for high-speed communication, it is essential to modify and improve high efficiency, wideband and nonlinear characteristic of multiband power amplifier. This research is designed to implement a single-stub matching circuit as a 2nd harmonic one that meets conditions of the Class-J power amplifier. Low characteristic impedance of the single-stub line is necessary to suit conditions of wideband Class-J. This research uses ceramic substrates having high permittivity to implement the single-stub line with low characteristic impedance, which eventually results in an amplifier satisfying the output impedance terms of Class-J in wideband frequency range. This result attributes to use of GaN HEMT packaged with a 2nd harmonic matching circuit and external fundamental circuit. The measurement results of the Class-J amplifier confirms the following characteristics: more than output power of 50 W(47 dBm) in bandwidth of 1.8~2.7 GHz(0.9GHz), maximum drain efficiency of 72.6 %, and maximum PAE characteristic of 66.5 %.

  • In this paper we investigate the existence of nontrivial solutions for the following fractional boundary value problem (FBVP) $$\{_tD_T^{\alpha}(_0D_t^{\alpha}u(t))={\nabla}W(t,u(t)),\;t{\in}[0,T],\\u(0)=u(T)=0,$$ where ${\alpha}{\in}(1/2,1)$, $u{\in}{\mathbb{R}}^n$, $W{\in}C^1([0,T]{\times}{\mathbb{R}}^n,{\mathbb{R}})$ and ${\nabla}W(t,u)$ is the gradient of W(t, u) at u. The novelty of this paper is that, when the nonlinearity W(t, u) involves a combination of superquadratic and subquadratic terms, under some suitable assumptions we show that (FBVP) possesses at least two nontrivial solutions. Recent results in the literature are generalized and significantly improved.
