Various types of shearing devices which may be a substitute for the conventional beams in stow nets were considered, and then tentatively named "the zonal canvas type of stow net" having the shearing device made of zonal canvas was devised. A 1/3 model of the net was made and experimented at sea. Converted to the full scale, the measured water resistance R(kg) of the net was given by $R=5.6{\times}10^{3}V^{l.5}$ or $R=3.5\frac{d}{l}{\lambda}_b{\lambda}_l\;V^{1.5}$, where V is the water velocity (m/sec), d the diameter of netting bars, l the length of the bars, ${\lambda}_b$ the stretched circumference of net mouth (m), ${\lambda}_l$ the length of net stretched. The net height kept about $83\%$ of the side rope length regardless of the variation of V and the net breadth kept a value over $90\%$ of the head rope length until V reached 1 m/sec. These results were very successful according to expectation, but the conventional netting was requested a further improvement. Therefore, the netting was newly designed to have smaller size of meshes in the vicinity of net mouth and larger hanging ratio breadthwise. With the netting a full scale net was made and experimented by a stern trawler. The experiment gave a net breadth over $95\%$ of the head rope length until V reached 1m/sec and showed no faults in the net. But the net operation by the stern trawler was ascribed an inconvenience to its narrow breadth of stern slip way.

Radish (Raphanus sativus L.), a root vegetable grown worldwide, is consumed in several ways. In the cross between parental lines to produce F1 seeds of radish, the problem of low purity may arise because of pollen contamination. Therefore, we aimed to establish conditions for callus induction and regeneration so that in vitro cultured plants could be used for the propagation of stock seeds. The most effective hormone combination containing various concentrations of 2,4-D, TDZ, and kinetin was selected for callus induction using radish hypocotyl, and the induced calli were transferred to two types of hormone media to investigate the optimal conditions for shoot regeneration of the callus. The combination of 1 mg/L 2,4-D + 0.05 mg/L kin was the most effective for callus induction of RA2 and RA10, 1 mg/L 2,4-D + 0.1 mg/L kin + 0.025 mg/L TDZ of RA4, and 1 mg/L 2,4-D + 0.2 mg/L kin of RA30. Shoot regeneration of the RA4 callus occurred in both shoot regeneration media, but the frequency was much higher in the 5H+1B medium (1 mg/L NAA + 0.1 mg/L 2,4-D + 1 mg/L IPA + 0.02 mg/L GA3 + 2 mg/L zeatin + 1 mg/L BA). For the in vitro micropropagation of radish, the conditions selected in this study can assist in the propagation and maintenance of stock seeds to produce F1 seeds.
This study was devised to observe the inhibitory effect of 7 kinds PG(PG1, PG2, PG3, PG4, PG5, PG6 and PG7) and of 5 kinds PG4(PG41, PG42, PG43, PG44 and PG45) of the acidic polysaccharide fraction from Korean red ginseng on a lipolytic action of Toxohormone-L. Toxohormone-L is a lipolytic factor, found in ascites fluid. of sarcoma-180 bearing mice and of patients with hepatoma. A substance that inhibited the lipolytic action of toxohormone-L was isolated from red ginseng powder. This substance was an acidic polysaccharides In vitro test showed that the inhibitory effect of PG4 and PG43 fraction of the lipolysis by Toxohormone-L was highest percent among other treatments at concentration of 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000ug/ml of reaction mixture. And total inhibitory activity(units) of PG1 and PG4, and PG4 s was highest among other treatments at the same concentration.
Studies were made to investigate effects of the scale-up of stirred tank bioreactors on cell growth and alkaloids production for suspension cultures of Eschscholtzia californica. In the 1.5 L STR, cell lysis was observed at 110 rpm or higher agitation speed. The agitation speed of 30 L STR was 43.7 rpm to maintain the same shear stress developed in 1.5 L STR of 100 rpm. As a result of scale-up from 1.5 L to 30 L STR, the specific growth rate was decreased from 0.12 to 0.07 day-1. The alkaloids productivity was also decreased from 0.24 to 0.14 mg/L-day. Changes of mixing performance and oxygen transfer were studied to explain the decrease of cell growth and alkaloids production. Decreased oxygen transfer rate coefficient(KLa) and increased mixing time by the scale-up was observed at various aeration rates.

This experiment study aimed to identify the continuous genetic variation caused by benzyladenine (BA) treatment in strawberry tissue culture. The 'Goha' cultivar was used and treated with different concentrations of BA (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 mg·L-1). Morphological and genetic variation tests were performed, and genetic continuity tests were performed for three years. The morphological variation induced by BA was distinctively high (10.5 ~ 20.0%) and the genetic variation was 7.0 ~ 15.0%, 1.8 ~ 10.0%, and 5.0% in the first, second, and third year of cultivation, respectively. The rate of genetic variation decreased with increasing cultivation years. In addition, genetic variation caused by BA 1.0 mg·L-1 and BA 2.0 mg·L-1 occurred in the first and second years of cultivation, whereas only BA 2.0 mg·L-1 caused genetic variation in the third year of cultivation. Therefore, a concentration of less than 1.0 mg·L-1 BA was used for the propagation of strawberry tissue culture plants, and it was necessary to identify their variation.
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma ($PPAR{\gamma}$) is a key transcription factor that regulates adipogenesis, and epigenetic control of $PPAR{\gamma}$ is of great interest in obesity-inhibition research. Our previous study showed that CACUL1 (CDK2-associated cullin domain 1) acts as a corepressor that inhibits $PPAR{\gamma}$ transcriptional activity and adipocyte differentiation. Here, we investigated the roles of protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5), a novel binding partner of CACUL1, in regulating $PPAR{\gamma}$. The interaction between PRMT5 and CACUL1 was shown by immunoprecipitation assay in vivo and GST pulldown assay in vitro. As shown by luciferase reporter assay, PRMT5 and CACUL1 cooperated to inhibit the transcriptional activity of $PPAR{\gamma}$. The suppressive role of PRMT5 in adipogenesis was examined by Oil Red O staining using 3T3-L1 cells, which stably overexpress or deplete PRMT5. Overexpression of PRMT5 suppresses $PPAR{\gamma}$-mediated adipogenesis, whereas PRMT5 knockdown increases lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells. Consistently, PRMT5 attenuates the expression of Lpl and aP2, the target genes of $PPAR{\gamma}$, as demonstrated by RT-qPCR analysis. Overall, these results suggest that PRMT5 interacts with CACUL1 to impair the transcriptional activity of $PPAR{\gamma}$, leading to the inhibition of adipocyte differentiation. Therefore, the regulation of PRMT5 enzymatic activity may provide a clue to develop an anti-obesity drug.
The purpose of this study was to investigate a proper $Ca^{2+}\;:\;K^+$ ratio in nutrient solution to produce marjoram and oregano by hydroponics. Two herbs were grown for 40 days with the $Ca^{2+}\;:\;K^+$ ratio of 3.5;13, 4.5:11(standard herb's nutrient solution), 5.5:9 and 6.5:7mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$ of herb's nutrient solution developed by European Vegetable R &D Center, Belgium. The ratio of 5.5:9, and 6.5:7 mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$ showed better results in growth of marjoram than other treatments. Vitamin C contents and amounts of esential oil were the highest in the ratio of 5.5:9 and 6.5:7, respectively. Inoregano, the growth and vitamin C contents were the highest in the ratio of 5.5:9 and 6.5:7 mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$, respectively. The content (%) and amount (mg/plant) of essential oil were the highest in the ratio of 6.5:7mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$. These results indicated that 5.5:9 and 6.5:7 mM${\cdot}L^{-1}$were proper $Ca^{2+}\;:\;K^+$ ratio of nutrient solution of marjoram and oregano, respectively, by hydropoinics.
The purpose of this study was to examine the association between oral health status and health related quality of life (HRQoL). The study used a nationally representative sample of Koreans (2013 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) aged 19~64 years (n=3,252). Dependent variable was HRQoL, which was assessed with each component of EuroQol-5 dimension (EQ5D). Independent variable was oral health status (oral pain, chewing problem, speaking problem, and perceived oral health). After adjustment for confounders (socio-demographic factors, oral health behaviors, health behaviors, and physical conditions), the risk of having poor HRQoL was greater in adults with poor oral health status. The odds ratio (OR) of having pain/discomfort were 1.50 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.22~1.86) for respondents with oral pain, 1.72 (95% CI, 1.33~ 2.22) for respondents with chewing problem, 1.79 (95% CI, 1.22~2.62) for respondents with speaking problem, and 1.36 (95% CI, 1.09~1.70) for respondents with poor perceived oral health. The OR of having anxiety/depression were 1.74 (95% CI, 1.28~2.38) when having a chewing problem, 1.72 (95% CI, 1.12~2.64) when having a speaking problem, and 1.54 (95% CI, 1.14~2.08) when rating his/her oral health poor. Among Korean adults, two of the EQ5D components were associated with oral health status. Future study is needed to examine the detailed causal relations between oral health status and HRQoL longitudinally.

The plate under shear loading umformly distributed on the end portions of its side boundary was considered. Infinite hyperbolic serieses and Fourier serieses were combined as a stress function and from which exact solutions for the 15 cases for the parameters of b/L=0.25, 0.5, 1.0 and l/L=0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 are obtained. In each cases the first 5 terms of the infinite series at the 36 points as shown in Fig. 3. The results are presented in Fig. 4-1, 4-2, and 4-3. The conclusions are as follows: 1) The stresses ${\sigma}_x$ increase very slightly as $\chi$ increases in the range of 0<x<L-l 2) When the parameters satisfy the conditions b/L<0.25 and l/L<0.2, the stresses in the region of 0<x<L-l can be obtained by replacing the uniform shear loading by the equivalent uniform shear loading by the equivalent uniform tensile force and pure bending moment at x=l. 3) The stress ${\sigma}_y$ is negligible throughout the region. 4) When the parameter b/L varies, the stresses ${\sigma}_x$ and u vary as L/b, while strain $\upsilon$ varies as $(L/b)^2$.
Calla lilies (Zantedeschia spp.) are monocotyledonous ornamental plants which belongs to the Araceae family. After the release of elite calla cultivar, an efficient propagation system is needed for commercial use. Despite the use of conventional propagation methods such as splitting of tubers and rhizomes of calla, rapid and efficient propagation system should be developed. In order to achieve this goal, stem segments contained apical meristems derived from calla lily cultivar (cv. Gag-si) were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with various concentrations of cytokinin and auxin. This was aimed at inducing embryogenic calluses, shoots and multiple shoots. As a result, about 25% of induction rates of yellow embryogenic calluses were observed with MS medium containing both $0.5mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;NAA$ and $1.5mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;BA$ as growth regulators. In the experiments involving the regeneration from embryogenic calluses through shoot formation, MS medium supplemented with $0.5mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;IAA$ and $2.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;BA$ showed the highest rates at approximately 85 ~ 90% with regard to the formation of shoots in calla. Moreover, multiple shoots needed for rapid propagation were generated when explants were cultured on MS medium supplemented with $0.5mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;IAA$ and $2.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}\;BA$ with 40% of formation rate. In this study, the combination of auxin and cytokinin showed positive effects on both the induction of embryogenic calluses, the formation of shoots as well as multiple shoots in calla. The regeneration system described here can contribute to the development of breeding programs of calla in the future.
