  • Purpose: The triple therapy with proton pump inhibitor (PPI) has been recognized as the treatment of choice in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in adults. However, the effect of triple therapy with omeprazole, amoxicillin and clarithromycin (OAC) on eradication of H. pylori infection in children has not been established yet. This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of OAC triple therapy and to compare the effect of one-week with two-week therapy on H. pylori eradication. Methods: From July 1998 to July 2000, 34 children with upper gastrointestinal symptoms, who underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with biopsy at entry and 4 or more weeks after therapy, were enrolled in this study. H. pylori infection was assessed by CLO test and histologic examination (Hematoxylin-Eosin stain or Alcian yellow stain) with biopsy specimens. The regimen consisted of omeprazole (0.7 mg/kg/day), amoxicillin (50 mg/kg/day), and clarithromycin (25 mg/kg/day) for 1 week (n=21) or 2 weeks (n=13). Eradication of H. pylori was determined after the termination of treatment by the CLO test and histologic examination. Results: One-week treatment group consisted of 21 children (11 male, 10 female) with a mean age of $9.5{\pm}3.0$ years. Two-week group consisted of 13 children (4 male, 9 female) with a mean age of $9.9{\pm}4.0$ years. The endoscopic diagnoses included nodular gastritis in 19 cases, superficial gastritis in 7 cases, gastric ulcer in 4 cases, purpuric duodenitis in 2 cases, and normal in 2 cases. H. pylori was eradicated in 28 of total 34 children (82.4%). In 1-week group, H. pylori was eradicated in 17 of 21 children (81%). In 2-week group, H. pylori was eradicated in 11 of 13 children (84.6%). In remaining 6 cases in whom H. pylori had not been eradicated with OAC regimen, H. pylori infection persisted despite of the treatment with additional drugs such as colloidal bismuth subcitrate ($Denol^{(R)}$) and metronidazole. Conclusion: In this study, eradication rate of H. pylori with OAC regimen was 82.4%, and the triple therapy would be highly effective as primary treatment. However, there was no significant difference in the eradication rate between the 1-week and 2-week treatment group (P=0.785).

  • The purpose of this study is to minimize radiation exposure to the workers and public members during CT examination. The objects are seven of the CT rooms in university hospitals and four of the CT rooms in clinics located in Busan and Gyung-nam area. The places of measurement for radiation leakage are 1) 3 m above the ground of shielding wall in the control room 2) particular space in the control room 3) worker's gate in the control room 4) the patient gate. Its values were calculated maximum leakage radiation per week(MLRW). As a result, the worker's gate of M clinic displayed the highest dose. When it was calculated by MLRW in classic method, it showed 1) $5.97{\pm}0.23$, 2) $0.50{\pm}0.02$, 3) $10.00{\pm}0.11$, 4) $2.37{\pm}0.47$ mR/week. All of them did not exceed limit for maximum permissible dose per week(MPDW). However, When MLRW of M clinic was calculated by empirical method, its value displayed $118.31{\pm}17.72$ mR/week.(MPDW>100 mR/week). Radiation leakage influenced in the control room(p<0.05). Therefore, The way of calculating MLRW must be developed and shielding wall in control room is designed 3 m above the ground for reducing dangerous of leakage radiation.

  • The purpose of this study was to recognized the sleep activity patterns of the normal infants in Korea. The subject were 41 normal infants who were below 8 weeks old and were born in Taegu city and Kyungbuk province. The measuring instrument the sleep activity was NCASA translated by the Korean-parent-child Health Academic Association. The data that were collected from April, 18 1999 to January 1, 2000 were analysed by the SPSS 7.5 program. The results of the study was summarized as follow; 1) The mean amount of total sleeping hours per day was decreased from $16.27{\pm}1.96$ hr at the 1st week, to $15.19{\pm}2.39$ hr at the 2nd week, to $13.66{\pm}2.40$ hr at the 3 week but increased to $16.55{\pm}5.77$ hr at the 4-8 week after birth. 2) The mean frequency of feeding was increased to $9.43{\pm}2.79$ times at the 3rd week but decreased to $7.55{\pm}1.23$ times at the 4-8th week after birth. 3) The regularity of day time sleep was decreased from 50.00% to 19.79% and that of night time sleep was increased from 51.79% to 72.92%. 4) The regularity of feeding was increased from 30.42% at the 1st week to 50.07% at the 2nd week but decreased 26.34% at the 4-8th week after birth. 5) The longest period of day time sleep was decreased to $2.39{\pm}0.42$ hr at the 3rd week but increased $2.47{\pm}0.69$ hr at the 4-8th week after birth. The longest period of night time sleep was decreased to $2.58{\pm}0.67$ hr at the 2nd week but increased to $3.00{\pm}1.32$ at the 3rd week and $4.30{\pm}1.16$ hr at the 4-8th week after birth. 6) At the 1st week, the 2nd week, the 3rd week after birth, the frequency of day time feeding was positively correlated with the frequency of night time feeding($R_{1week}=0.948^{**}$, $R_{2week}=0.927^{**}$, $R_{3week}=0.779^{**})$. At the 4-8th week after birth, the frequency of night time feeding was negatively correlated with the amount of night time sleep ($R_{4week-8week}=0.875^{*}$). On the basis of above findings, the following is suggested; It is need a longitudinal and transcultural study which are designed for children's sleep and feeding.

  • 432 Babcock ISA white leghorn pullets reared for 8 weeks on a standard managemental conditions were exposed to feed/nutrient and light restrictions from 9 to 20 weeks of age. Four feeding regimes i. e. 100, 85 or 70 percent of the recommended allowance and low energy (2,500 Kcal/kg) low protein (13% CP) ration were fed each in the three light regimes i. e. (A) Natural day light starting from 13.24 hr/day at 8 weeks of age and ending 10.41 hr/day at the end of 20 weeks; (B) Constant 11 hr/day light and (C) starting with 13 hr/day at 8 weeks and decreasing @ 20 min/week till 20 weeks of age. At the age of 20 weeks all the birds were shifted to separate cages under uniform lighting feeding and management. During the 21st week light was increased to 12 hr a day and thereafter with an increase of 30 min per week, increased to 16 hr a day at the age of 29 weeks. From 20 weeks onward till 72 week age, all the birds were offered commercial layer rations ad libitum, prepared according to climatic conditions. The results of the study revealed that birds reared under natural and constant light had higher weights than decreasing light, yet they could not out perform during production period. The effect of feed and nutrient restriction, on the other hand, was found significant during rearing as well as production period. The birds exposed to higher level of feed and those exposed to nutrient restriction were lighter in weight. The 100% fed birds laid their first egg at an early age. However, those reared on 85% of the recommendation excelled all other groups in terms of produced number of eggs, egg mass, hen housed and hen day production and net returns.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the scores of postpartum depression(PPD) on the first day, 1st week, and 6th week after the delivery and to explore their related factors before and after delivery in postpartum women. Methods: With a survey design, 293 postpartum women were recruited from a postpartum unit, Ilsin Christian hospital in Pusan via convenience sampling and were followed at 1st week and 6th week in the outpatient clinic. Results: Results showed that the scores of PPD(EPDS score) were low at postpartum 1st day, 1st week and 6th week but prevalence of PPD(EPDS ${\geq}13$)was 3.1%at 1st day, 8.2%at 1st week and 7.5%at 6th week, respectively. The pre-delivery factors were experience of depression, and the post-delivery factors were baby's sex(1st day), no caregiver for baby(1st week), and no help and concern for taking care of baby from husband and family(1st day and 6th week). The greater satisfaction with becoming a mother and her life, and greater maternal attachment were related to lower level of PPD at the three time points. Conclusion: Regular screening for postpartum depression and supportive and informative education is needed for postpartum women visiting the outpatient clinic for follow-up.
