Purpose: This study aims to investigate the degree of burnout of 119 rescuers, to determine factors influencing their burnout, and to provide basic data for development of intervention programs to prevent the burnout. Methods: Subjects of this study were all 119 rescuers working at fire stations located in Busan and Gyeongnam. The data were collected from May 1, 2010 to June 30, 2010. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: When the difference in the degree of burnout by general characteristics was investigated, the means of burnout were significantly different depending on age, period of service, position, license, annual salary, desire to work continuously and types of working hours. Job stress, job satisfaction, social support, self efficacy and self esteem showed a statistically significant correlation with burnout. The degree of burnout became higher with more job stress and lower job satisfaction, social support, self efficacy and self esteem. As a significant factor affecting the degree of burnout of 119 rescuers, job stress showed 47.3% of explanatory power. The explanatory power of all of job stress, job satisfaction, self efficacy, types of working hours, annual salary and license was 62% and the power of job stress was the highest. Conclusion: From these results, job stress, job satisfaction and self-efficacy were found to be factors affecting the burnout of 119 rescuers. Therefore, intervention programs to reduce job stress and to improve job satisfaction, social support, self efficacy and self esteem should be developed to lower the degree of burnout of 119 rescuers. In addition, further researches to analyze works of 119 rescuers and legal and institutional strategies to improve their treatment are necessary and supplementary training in various practices by different circumstances based on standardized protocols should be conducted.

This study analyzed the survey data of 162 rescuers working in G Special Self-Governing Province to find out the effect of the transactional and transformational leadership of 119 rescuer leaders on life satisfaction. As a result of analysis through multiple regression analysis, it was found that the life satisfaction of 119 rescuers was greatly influenced by the leadership style of their leaders. It has been confirmed that transformational and transactional leadership are not independent of each other, and that the appropriate balance of these two leadership approaches has a positive effect on the life satisfaction and organizational life of the rescuers. Therefore, the 119 rescuers' team leaders should create an environment in which transformational and transactional leadership can be balanced. Specifically, transformational leadership should be exercised through individualized consideration, intellectual stimulation, and inspirational motivation, while at the same time improving transactional leadership by establishing a reward system based on performance. Through this, it is expected that the quality of rescue service at the site will be improved by increasing the life satisfaction of 119 rescuers and laying the foundation for them to demonstrate their potential capabilities. The findings of this study provide practical implications for improving the quality of life and organizational performance of 119 rescuers.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence and to describe the correlation between the working period and musculoskeletal diseases of 119 rescuers. We conducted 485 surveys from 547 rescuers working in Gyeonggi-do from November 5 to December 20, 2011. The collected data were analyzed by cross tabulation analysis, chi-square test, and correlation analysis using PASW 18.0. The p value was set at p<.05. The prevalence of musculoskeletal diseases, 328(67.6%) rescuers suffering from musculoskeletal diseases. General characteristics included gender(p<.01), age(p<.01), marriage(p<.001),household chores(p<.05), working period(p<.001). The correlation between physical loading of subjects and musculoskeletal diseases was significant(p<.001). The rescuers felt the pain at lower back(36.4%), shoulders(19.2%), neck(14.9%), hip/ankles(13.2%), hand/wrist/fingers(12.0%), elbow(4.3%). This study showed that working period and physical loading affect musculoskeletal diseases.

This study was analyzed the 119 rescuers' image of citizens to provide a fundamental material to improve 119 rescuers' image effectively. This research design was a descriptive study. Data were collected from November 9, 2011 to December 9, 2011, and analyzed by SPSS PASW statistics 18.0 program. Among the 4 subcategories of the image, occupational image was found the highest value($3.17{\pm}0.36$), and the social image($2.81{\pm}0.48$) was found the lowest. There were statistical different between age($p$ <.001), occupation($p$ <.001), whether or not the emergency first response education is completed($p$ <.05), and whether or not 119 emergency service is received($p$ <.05). In the result of multivariate regression analysis, adjusted $R^2$ value was 0.120. The model fit 12.0%. Occupation (students, housewives and office workers) and those who completed emergency first response education were showed a positive image of 119 rescuers. There is a need to compare and analyze the image of 119 rescuers in accordance with whether or not 119 emergency service is received and the satisfaction with the emergency service under the control of the general characteristics(sex, age, occupation, economic level, etc.) of subjects.
The regulation on organization and operation of rescue and aid party was amended. This Regulation is designed to provide legal formality in order to protect not only the patients' right but also 119 rescuers from liability, which is due to treatment refusal by patient and the discretionary refusal of transfer by 119 rescuers on the non-emergency situation. This study looked over the constitute of violation of emergency medical service act related to the discretionary refusal of 119 rescuers, the criminal liability owing to omission and the possibility of national indemnities on the damage of patients. This study also analyzed the courts' decision and attitude by exploring overseas judicial precedents and examined what should be considered on the execution of the newly enacted law. Finally, this study put emphasis on the importance of medical director's control, documentation of every procedure, 119 rescuer's authorization on the refusal of transfer by securing patient's informed consent.
This study of the positive rates of HBsAg, anti-HBs among 119 Emergency Medical Technicians and Rescuers who were working in Pohang, Kyoung-Buk, Korea was performed from March to June 1997 according to three methods of EIA, RPHA and PHA. The number of samples were 201. The results were as follows; The overall positive rate of HBs Ag by EIA and RPHA methods were 4.98%, 5.47%, the overall positive rate of anti-HBs by EIA and PHA methods were 58.71%, 63.68%. In detecting of HBs Ag, concurrence rate, sensitivity, specificity and predictability of PHA to EIA were 99.5%, 90.9%, 100% and 99.75% respectively. In detecting of anti-HBs, concurrence rate, sensitivity, specificity and predictability of PHA to EIA were 91.04%, 89%, 94.5% and 89.87% respectively. Based on this study, there were no significant diffrences in the positive rates of HBsAg and Anti-HBs in 119 Emergency Medical Technicians and Rescurers in Pohang, Korea as compared with the general population according to other studies. In terms of concurrence rate, sensitivity, specificity and the costs of RPHA with EIA for detecting HBsAg, RPHA is more cost effective than EIA for mass screening of HBsAg detection. Also, In terms of concurrence rate, sensitivity and specificity of PHA with EIA, PHA is more cost effective and less problems of procedure than the EIA for mass screening of Anti-HBs detection.

In order to report characteristics of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patient in whom 119 rescuers used prehospital care by Paramedic's Reports. 1,016 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients were transferred to hospitals by 119 rescuers between January 1st and December 31st, 2008. Prehospital reports of 983 cardiac arrest patients by 119 were analyzed. Shockable rhythm with AED use was 20.3%(VF 18.4%, VT 1.9%), then 66.5% of shockable cardiac arrest patients was resuscitated by AED. Bystander basic life support was 14.8%. There were significant differences in the recurrent survival rates between shockable rhythm and non-shockable rhythm(13.0% vs 2.0%,7.4%, p=0.000). There was also significant differences in the recurrent survival rates between adequacy rate of AED(21.6% vs 2.4%, p=0.000). But there was no significant differences in the recurrent survival rates between done bystander CPR and none(9.0% vs 5.5%, p=0.10). The performance of bystander CPR and usage of AED, and appropriate CPR done by 119 rescuers were unsatisfactory by paramedic's reports. To improve the adequacy of Basic life Support and to increase the performance on Advanced Life Suppport, we must challenge to develop the emergency medical systems.
Direct medical control by medical doctors is an essential part of emergency medical services system (EMSS). However, the indications are not specifically defined, even in 119 system with their own medical control team. The Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Management Department has operated internal medical consultation services on its own since January 2004. Based on the experiences from these services, we reviewed the cases of the direct medical consultation and establish the indications for direct medical control. And we presumed the demand of direct medical control with the established indications. The crews of 119 in Seoul made 793 calls to Medical Control Team during November 2004. We reviewed all of the calls according to the level of consciousness (AVPU), the kinds of emergency care done by crews during transport (10 categories), and the mechanisms of injuries (9 categories). The need for direct medical control was judged by authors with reviewing the records reported by the crews and control teams. Among 23 items, 14 items assigned as the indications, which were abnormal level of consciousness (VPU), 6 kinds of emergency care, and 5 mechanisms of injures. The sum of the three of them, 7,782 cases (45.9%), was in need of direct medical control. In conclusion, about half of the patients transported by 119 crews in Seoul require direct medical control. The need for the direct medical control in Seoul was estimated as many as 260 calls per day. To fulfill the need for direct medical control and to provide a effective medical control, the direct medical control should be accomplished through the communications between the crews and the medical staffs in the local hospitals.

According to these tests, the experimental uniform was found to be more satisfactory than former one.
In Korea, the number of those who were drowned of the dead by 'accident and injury' ranked the third of causes of death is over 2,300 people a year. So the Ministry of Home Affairs arranged '119 drowning rescue team' at frequent occurrence regions of drowning temporarily as a part of drowning rescue measures during every summer season and made perfection more perfect for safety control and rescue services at prevention areas of accidents. However, considering that the number of professional drowning rescuers is small and it is managed temporarily only for summer, the placement of special rescue team equipped with professional education and qualification should be ensured and quick lifesaving and first-aid treatment should be conducted, since much time is required to arrive at accident place after receiving accident report at 119 office, rapid rescue and relief have not been achieved. Therefore, the placement of special rescue team should be increased for reducing the personal damages by considering regional characteristics and in particular placement of more drowning rescue teams in Jeonnam region which has more seas and rivers is needed This study aims at analyzing relief activities and statistics to cope with water accidents and achieve qualitative growth of first-aid services, examining actual conditions of water accident relief team and personnel assignment, providing first-aid services of good quality and establishing improvement methods to increase operation of relief team.
