Pre-loads could be imposed on the braced wall to prevent the horizontal displacements during the ground excavation adjacent to the existing tunnel. For this purpose, new pre-loading system through which large pre-loads could be applied to the braced wall was used in the model tests. Large scale model tests were performed in the real scale test pit which was 2.0 m in width and 6.0 m in hight and 4.0 m in length. Test ground was constructed by sand. Model tunnel in 1.2 m diameter was constructed before test ground excavation. Test ground was excavated adjacent to existing tunnel and was braced. To investigate the effect of pre-loading, tests without pre-load were also performed. During the ground excavation were the behavior of braced wall, test tunnel, and ground measured. Model tests were also numerically analysed and their results were compared to that of the real scale tests. As a result, it was found that the stability of the existing tunnel was greatly enhanced when the horizontal displacements of braced wall was reduced by applying pre-load larger than the design load.

In recent years, the development of complex urban areas has become saturated and much attention has been focused on the development of underground space, and deep excavation is frequently performed in order to increase the utilization of underground space due to the enlargement of buildings and the high rise of buildings. Therefore, in this study, we tried to understand the behavior of the braced wall and the behavior of the tunnel adjacent to the wall according to the stiffness of the wall and the distance between the tunnel and wall. As a result of the study, the deformation of the braced wall tended to decrease with increasing the stiffness of the wall, and the axial force acting on the struts was also different according to the stiffness of braced wall. When the stiffness of the braced wall is small (2 mm), the point at which the axial force of the braces maximizes is near 0.3H of the wall. When the stiffness of the braced wall is large (5 mm), the axial force is maximum at around 0.7H of the wall. Also, the tunnel convergence occurred more clearly when the separation distance from the braced wall was closer, the stiffness of the wall was smaller, and the tunnel convergence was concentrated to the lower right part. The ground settlement due to the excavation of the ground tended to decrease as the distance between tunnel and braced wall was closer to that of the tunnel, which is considered to be influenced by the stiffness of the tunnel.
This paper presents the measured performance of in-situ walls using the measured data collected from various deep excavation sites in urban area. A variety of in-situ wall systems from 57 sites were considered, including H-pile walls, soil cement walls, cast-in-place pile walls, and diaphram walls. The examination included lateral wall movements as well as apparent earth pressure distributions. The measured data were thoroughly analyzed to investigate the effects of various components of in-situ wall system, such as types of wall and supporting system, on the lateral wall movement as well as on the apparent earth pressure distribution. The results wee then compared with the current design/analysis methods, and information is presented in chart formes to provide tools that can be used for design and analysis. Using the measured data, a semi-empirical equation for predicting deep excavation induced maximum lateral wall movement is suggested.

The changes in earth pressure and ground settlement due to the underground excavation nearby the existing retaining wall according to the separation distance between underground excavation and retaining wall, were studied experimentally. A soil tank having 160 cm in length and 120 cm in height, was manufactured to simulate the underground excavation like tunnel by using 5 separated bottom walls. The variation of earth pressure was measured according to the excavation stages by using 10 separated right walls simulating the retaining wall. The results showed that the earth pressure was changed by the lowering of first bottom wall(B1), however the earth pressure was not changed significantly by the lowering of third bottom wall(B3) since B3 had sufficient separation distance from retaining wall. Lowering of first bottom wall(B1) induced the decrease of earth pressure in lower part of retaining wall, on the contrary, lowering of first bottom wall(B1) induced the increase of earth pressure in middle part of retaining wall proving the arching effect.
It is very important to investigate the ground properties of a construction site for the stability during the construction of the retaining wall. In the retaining wall construction stage, ground properties are checked through ground investigation, but the actual ground properties may be different from the ground investigation result. In order to analyze the stability of the retaining wall in real time, it is important to reflect the properties of the actual ground. Also, when it is judged that the wall is unstable, an appropriate solution must be provided for the stability of the wall. This study aims to present a technique for predicting the actual ground properties through a differential evolution algorithm and judging the stability of the earth wall in real time through the digital twin of the retaining wall.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the mechanical properties of high-flowable retaining wall material (RWM) incorporated with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (SG) and steel fiber (SF) based on a comparison with those of ordinary portland cement (OPC). To produce the specimens of RWM, some chemical agents such as superplasticizer (SP), air-entrained agent (AEA) and viscosity modifying agent (VMA) are added in the fresh RWM. The compressive, split tensile and flexural strength measurements were performed on the hardened RWM specimens. Additionally, surface electric resistivity and absorption tests according to ASTM standards were carried out at predetermined periods after water curing. It was found that the mechanical properties of slag cement concrete (SGC) RWM mix are better than those ordinary portland cement concrete (OPC) RWM mix. The effect of SF is remarkable to improve the mechanical properties of RWM mixes. It is noted that the usage of SG shows a beneficial effect to resist water penetration as well as long-term strength development of RWM mixes.
This paper analyzed the effects related to the difference of the geometrical shape of the ground excavation by comparing the displacements of the earth retaining wall of the strut resulting from the change of the excavation breadth B and the excavation length L, adopting the three dimensional FDM analysis. It appeared that the displacement of the earth retaining wall of the strut increases in accordance with the increase of L/B and it decreases as it becomes nearer from the center to the comer where the temporary structural system forms, and the wale member is closured because of the effects of the confining effect by the closure of the earth retaining wall and the wale member. This paper proposed a formula in which the results of three dimensional FDM analysis which considers the shape of the excavation plane can be obtained from those of two dimentional FDM analysis which does not consider the shape of the excavation plane. And the results of the formula were compared with those of the site instrumentation analysis.
This paper is aimed to evaluate the mechanical properties and durability of high-flowable retaining wall material (RWM) with different levels of steel fiber (SF) content. To produce the specimens of RWM, some chemical agents such as superplasticizer (SP), air-entrained agent (AEA) and viscosity modifying agent (VMA) were added in the fresh RWM. The compressive and split tensile strength measurements were performed on the hardened RWM specimens at the predetermined periods. Additionally, surface electric resistivity and absorption tests according to ASTM standards were carried out to examine mechanical properties of RWM mixes. The durable performances such as chloride ions penetrability and freezing-thawing resistance of RWM mixes were experimentally investigated. As resutls, it was found that the performance of RWM mix with SF were much better than that without SF, especially at the 2% addition of SF. Thus, it is noted that the proper addition of SF in the RWM mix may have a beneficial effect to improve mechanical properties and durability of RWM mixes.

Inclinometer has several problems of 1)difficulty installing inclinometer casing, 2) measuring 2D local lateral displacement of retaining wall, 3) measurement by manpower. To solve such problems, a 2D LiDAR sensor-based retaining wall displacement measurement system was developed in previous studies. The purpose of this study is to select a displacement analysis algorithm to be applied in the retaining wall displacement measurement system. As a result of the displacement analysis algorithm selection, the M3C2 (Multiple Model to Model Cloud Comparison) algorithm with a displacement estimation error of 2mm was selected as the displacement analysis algorithm. If the M3C2 algorithm is applied in the system and the reliability of the displacement analysis result is secured through several field experiments. Convenient management of the displacement for the retaining wall is possible in comparison with the current measurement management.

If a problem occurs in the strut during the construction of the braced wall, they may cause excessive deformation of the braced wall. Therefore, in this study, the behavior of the braced wall and existing tunnel adjacent to excavation were investigated assuming that the support function of strut is lost during construction process. For this purpose, a series of model test was performed. As a result of the study, the earth pressure in the ground behind wall was rearranged due to the deformation of the braced wall, and the ground displacements caused the deformation of adjacent tunnels. When the struts located on the nearest side wall from the tunnel were removed, the deformation of the braced wall and the tunnel deformation were the largest. The magnitude of transferred earth pressure depended on the location of tunnel. The increase of the cover depth of tunnel from 0.65D to 2.65D caused the increase of the earth pressure by 25.6%. As the distance between braced wall and tunnel was increased from 0.5D to 1.0D, the transferred earth pressure increased by 16% on average. Horizontal displacements of braced wall by the removal of the strut tended to concentrate around the removed struts, and the horizontal displacement increased as the strut removal position is lowered. The tunnel displacement was maximum, when the cover depth of tunnel was 1.15D and the horizontal distance between braced wall and the side of tunnel was 0.5D. The minimal displacement occurred, when the cover depth of tunnel was 2.65D and the horizontal distance between braced wall and the side of tunnel was 1.0D. The difference between the maximum displacement and the minimum displacement was about 2 times, and the displacement was considered to be the largest when it was in the range of 1.15D to 1.65D and the horizontal distance of 0.5D.
