Analysis of Emergency Alerting Technology for Portable Broadcasting and Communication Services (휴대용 방송 및 통신 서비스를 활용한 재난정보전달 기술 분석)

  • 최근 대형 재난의 증가로 안전에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있는데 이러한 재난을 대비하기 위해서는 효과적, 효율적인 재난방송이 필요하다. 재난방송을 수신할 수 있는 단말 중에 휴대전화, 내비게이션 등의 휴대용 단말은 정전 상황에서도 이용할 수 있어 특히 유용하다. 본 논문에서는 휴대용 단말에서 이용할 수 있는 재난정보전달 기술을 분석하여 장단점을 평가하였다. 이를 위해 지상파DMB 재난경보방송과 스마트폰 어플리케이션, CBS(Cell Broadcasting System) 재난문자방송과 최근 연구 중인 자동인지 T-DMB 재난방송을 분석하고, 재난방송에서 중요한 특성인 안정성, 효율성, 자동인지(wake-up), 지역맞춤 서비스 등의 항목에 대해 평가하였다. 평가 결과 모든 특성을 만족하는 기술은 없어 복수의 기술을 동시에 적용하여 장점을 활용하는 방안과, 이에 따른 중복 수신 문제를 해결하기 위한 연구 및 협력이 필요하다는 결론과 차세대 재난방송 서비스인 자동인지 T-DMB 재난방송에서 이와 같은 특성을 만족시키고 빠른 시일 내에 보급 및 확산이 필요하다는 결론을 도출하였다.

  • 본 연구는 영어학습 보조도구로서 3D기법을 활용한 애플리케이션을 개발하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서 사용한 애플리케이션은 2D 방식에 기반을 둔 언어학습 보조도구 대신에 휴대가 편리한 스마트폰에 UNITY 3D기법을 적용해서 각 언어음을 발화하는데 조음기관들이 어떻게 서로 상호작용하는지 시각적으로 보여준다. 또한 UNIT을 방향전환하면서 학습자의 음 발성 정확도를 높이는 동시에 학습자 수준에 맞추어 장소에 구애받지 않고 자기 주도적으로 학습의 흥미를 지속적으로 유발시키고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다.

  • 국내 스마트폰 시장은 사용자 수 2000만 명 시대를 향해가고 있다. 사람들은 PC를 사용했던 것과 같이 모바일 기기도 최대한 활용하고자 노력하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 안드로이드 기반의 모바일 기기를 PC와 연결된 터치패드로 활용할 수 있도록 하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이는 기존 터치패드가 가지는 휴대성 부분의 단점을 개선할 방안이 된다. 또한 터치패드 구현에서 그치는 것이 아니라 불안정한 네트워크 환경에서도 효과적으로 사용할 수 있도록 연구를 진행하였다.

A Hierarchical Mobile Context Model and User Context Inference Methods based on Smart Phones (스마트 폰 기반 계층적 모바일 컨텍스트 모델 및 사용자 상황 추론 기법)

  • Since smart phones have various embedded sensors and high portability/usability, they have emerged as suitable targets to collect information and to provide intelligent services. That is, with a smart phone, we can collect information about user's circumstances and phone usage from sensors and infer his/her current state which is the significant basis for context-aware services. However, a service system should be founded on a context model to ensure reasonable context-awareness, because context information the system needs depends on its target services. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a hierarchical mobile context model for context inference of smart phone users in their daily life. We classify high-level context which can be draw from sensing data into three levels, Context-Behavior-Situation, and define inference methods for each level. With our mobile context model, we can user's meaningful context in his/her daily life besides simple actions or states.

N-gram based Language Model for the QWERTY Keyboard Input Errors in a Touch Screen Environment (터치스크린 환경에서 쿼티 자판 오타 교정을 위한 n-gram 언어 모델)

  • With the increasing use of touch-enabled mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs, the works are done on desktop computers and smartphones, and tablet PCs perform laptops. However, due to the nature of smart devices that require portability, QWERTY keyboard is densely arranged in a small screen. This is the cause of different typographical errors when using the mechanical QWERTY keyboard. Unlike the mechanical QWERTY keyboard, which has enough space for each button, QWERTY keyboard on the touch screen often has a small area assigned to each button, so that it is often the case that the surrounding buttons are input rather than the button the user intends to press. In this paper, we propose a method to automatically correct the input errors of the QWERTY keyboard in the touch screen environment by using the n-gram language model using the word unigram and the bigram probability.

  • With the rage for Netbooks recently, Tablet PC and Smart phone users are rapidly increasing. Despite of the forecast that anticipates frequently practical use in various organizations and society, the comparison studies among the mobile devices rarely exist. The study examines the acceptable intention of the mobile devices, with which can replace traditional workstations and notebooks. UTAUT(Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology) was applied to the investigation of influencing factors for the acceptable intention, instead of the typical TAM(Technology Acceptance Model). The results illustrate that the significant differences of acceptable intention among the mobile devices occur based on two-side network effect even though some Smart phones share OSs and Apps with Tablet PCs and Netbooks.

An Exploratory Analysis of OTT Usage Patterns (OTT 이용행태에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • Recently OTT video service has grown rapidly and has a negative impact on the growth of pay-TV subscribers. Consequently the substitution of OTT services for pay-TV services will begin. This study explores OTT usage patterns, dividing into three sectors (OTT service use, OTT usage volume, and paid-OTT service use), by considering users' demographice factors, smart device ownership, pay-TV subscription, and bundle service use, by employing the Mediapanel dataset. The results showed that age, income, smartTV usage, market size, cable/satellite subscribers, TV VOD expenses, movie VOD expenses, and mobile bundle use are associated with OTT service use. The results also showed that age, household sizes, tablePC usgage, cable/satellite subscribers, TV VOD expenses, other VOD expenses, and unlimited data plans are associated with OTT usage volume. Lastly the results showed that age, gender, income, tabletPC usage, cable subscribers, other VOD expenses, mobile bundle usage, and unlimited data plans are associated with paid-OTT service use.

A Study on the UI Design of Stick-type Intergrated Remote Controller for Domestic Use (가정용 스틱형 통합리모콘의 UI 디자인 연구)

  • The study aims to design an integrated remote controller, which is an increasingly essential device in the home, for more convenient use. For this purpose, an alternative user interface (UI) design was developed by applying the user interface system of a popular existing product to an integrated remote control highly usable and easy to learn for domestic use, and the usability was evaluated. For the existing popular product, a cellular phone was selected, the operation method of which is similar to the stick-type integrated remote control for which the user interface design was to be developed in this research. Common characteristics of the UI of the selected cellular phone were derived and the characteristics were applied as much as possible to the design of a stick-type integrated remote control. The prototype of the alternative design, which was simulated with Flash, went through two pilot tests for further improvement before making the final experimental prototype. Based on the results, prototype buttons that improved the feeling of use in terms of physical operation and feedback were made, and the usability of the new UI design of a stick-type integrated remote control for domestic use were evaluated with 41 university students in their 20s. According to the results of the experiment, the newly designed stick-type integrated remote control based on the UI of an existing product may improve the usability of remote controls and the outcome of this study is expected to provide a good model for R&D of new UI designs of stick-type integrated remote controls for domestic use.

  • Recently, due to the development of mobile phone and supply of smart phone, many contents have been developed. Especially, since the small-sized cameras are equiped in mobile devices, people are interested in the image based contents development, and it also becomes important part in their practical use. Among them, the character recognition system can be widely used in the applications such as blind people guidance systems, automatic robot navigation systems, automatic video retrieval and indexing systems, automatic text translation systems. Therefore, this paper proposes a system that is able to extract text area from the natural images captured by smart phone camera. The individual characters are recognized and result is output in voice. Text areas are extracted using Adaboost algorithm and individual characters are recognized using error back propagated neural network.

A Remote Control System Using Bluetooth (블루투스를 이용한 가전기기 원격제어 시스템)

  • Controlling household devices using an infra-ray (IR) has a limitation since the IR signal cannot only be extended, but also cannot be transmitted over the physical barrier. Using a radio frequency (RF) may overcome these shortcomings. Bluetooth is one of the emerging RF_based standard protocols for short-range wireless communications among various control devices. In this paper, we describe a control system for household appliances using Bluetooth under embedded Linux environment. The control system consists of a centralized main controller and geographically scattered wallplates. Some of the challenges and lessons learned will be outlined in the presentation. As a result of this research, we found that the Bluetooth is a promising technology for realizing wireless control systems for household appliances.
