  • The increase in demand for e-learning has created a need to explore the implications of the emerging paradigm shift on the learning environment. To utilize information technology to improve learning processes, the pedagogical assumptions underlying the design of information technology for educational purposes must be understood. However, little theoretical development or empirical research has examined the learning effectiveness in web-based distance learning. In this regard, the primary purpose of this study is to investigate which factors of E-learning influence the effectiveness of education and expectation. Based on the prior studies of the education and business training field, research model and research hypotheses were developed. Factors studied in this paper were student characteristics, system environment and teacher characteristics. The result showed that the student characteristics has the significant effect on the effectiveness of education and expectation. However, the system characteristics and the teacher characteristics have the partial significant effects. This result is partially due to the subject characteristics of this study, because the subjects of this study are the students and they have already the experiences in IT and e-learning.

  • In this study, the amalgamative relationship associated with oral health belief and preventive behavior against oral disease subject to middle aged people was analyzed. 20 persons in their middle age living in U city were selected as final subjects for this analysis. It was found that a factor with the strongest effect on intention to prevent oral disease and preventive behavior among oral health belief was importance. In the study, it was identified that the parameters such as importance and benefit had a partial mediating effect on the intention to prevent oral disease and self-efficacy had complete mediating effect. Through these results, it seems necessary to develop an intervention program for middle aged people able to recognize importance and benefits of oral health by themselves in order to promote their oral health.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of falls, the fear of falling and fall efficacy and identify the predictors of falls in the elderly at senior citizens' centers. Method: The subjects of this study were 106 elders who used senior citizens' centers in Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea. Data were collected from May to June, 2006 through a survey using a structured questionnaire. Result: Of the elderly sampled, 35.8% experienced falls during the last 1 year. Of falls experienced by the elderly, 53% occurred indoors, 47% outdoors, 15.8% in the bathroom or toilet. In addition, 57.8% of the elderly had injuries on the hip and waist related with falls. The fear of falling was higher in those with experience in falls than in those without. Factors affecting the elders' falls were age (OR=1.113, 95% CI=1.012-1.224), the number of chronic disease (OR=2.342, 95% CI=1.365-4.019) and the fear of falling (OR=4.279, 95% CI=1.901-9.634). The predictor of the frequency of falls was fall efficacy ($R^2=24.9$). Conclusion: As a result, it is essential to develop fall prevention programs based on the fear of falling, fall efficacy, chronic diseases and medication state. And in senior citizens' centers, fall prevention safety education should be activated as a health promotion program.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the stages of change in smoking cessation after a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft(CABG) and to identify the related factors. Methods: The subjects (n=157) were patients who underwent a CABG in a university hospital from March 1998 to October 2005 and were smokers before the CABG. Data was collected viachart review and a telephone interview, and analyzed with descriptive statistics, $X^2$ test, one-way ANOVA, and Kruskal-Wallis procedure by the SPSS/PC win 12.0 program. Results: The subjects smoked for an average of 34 years (21 cigarettes per day) before surgery. Eleven percent of the subjects were in pre-contemplation, 6.4% in contemplation, 13.5% in preparation, 4.5% in action, and 64.5% in the maintenance stage. Nicotine dependence and self-efficacy were different among the groups with different stages of change in smoking cessation. Nicotine dependence was the lowest (p=0.00) and self-efficacy was the highest (p=0.00) in the maintenance stage. The number of subjects in pre-contemplation and contemplation significantly increased 6 years after surgery(p=0.05). Conclusions: To implement effective smoking cessation interventions for CABG patients, the intervention should be developed to accommodate individual readiness for smoking cessation, especially so for those who had a CABG more than 6 years previously.

  • The purpose of this study was to define and clarify the concept of Shared decision-making (SDM) in patients with chronic disease. Walker and Avant's concept analysis process was used to analyze interdisciplinary convergence in SDM. SDM in patients with chronic disease can be defined by the following attributes: acknowledgment patients as 'self-care experts', the rights of self-determination, reversible negotiation, and patient-centered care. The antecedents of SMD consisted of situations where there is a need to make a decision from several treatment options of similar efficacy, decisional conflict, patient, family, and health provider's willingness to participate in the decision-making process, enough time and opportunity for SDM. The consequences occurring as a result of SMD were decrease decisional conflict, improvement health outcome, satisfaction, quality of life, enhancement self-management and self-efficacy with long-term, and living acceptably with the illness. Based on these results, a scale measuring SDM in patients with chronic disease is needed.
