  • During concrete placement, the partially distributed load due to the concrete placement paths creates the lateral force in the connection parts of the shore. In order to restrain this lateral force, the nails must be used in the upper and lower connection parts of shores. But, for the convenience of the construction and dismantling of the shores, the workers hardly use the nails. In this case, the connections of shore cannot resist the shear force and rotation. And this situation may cause the collapse of form-shore system. Therefore, contact and spring models for the connection analysis of the form-shore systems are required. If we take into account this construction situation, we need to understand the effects of shear and rotation stiffness according to the several types of connection parts in shores as a case study. This study evaluates the shear and rotation stiffness of the connection parts of shores according to the variations of the lengths, numbers and positions of nails, and then presents the experimental results depending on the end conditions of shores. And, these results can be used as a spring model and critical load evaluation data for the connection analysis of form-shore system.

  • Rotation of intake and exhaust valves are very closely related to the long term durability of automotive engines. If the valves do not rotate even at a rated engine speed, it causes the uneven wear of the valve seat and valve head contact area, which eventually shortens the engine life. A principle of valve rotation mechanism was presumed based on some findings from experiments, and computer programs were developed to simulate the valve rotation phenomena. In this study we investigated the valve rotation mechanism by using the computer simulation models.

  • This paper deals with the buckling loads of column with rotation end restricted by rotational spring. The ordinary differential equations governing the buckling loads of such column is derived as nondimensional forms, and also its boundary conditions are derived. The buckled column model is based on the classical Bemoulli-Euler beam theory. The Runge-Kutta method and Regula-Falsi method are used to perform the integration of the differential equations and to determine the eigenvalue. The numerical methods developed herein for the buckling loads of the such column are found to be efficient and reliable. It is expected that the results obtained herein can be practically utilized in the structural engineering field.

  • This paper presents an efficient dynamic modeling method for open cracked rotor-bearing systems. An equivalent bending spring model is introduced to represent the structural weakening effect in the presence of cracks. The proposed modeling method is validated through a series of simulations and experiments. First, the proposed method is rigorously compared with a commercial finite element code. Then, an experiment is performed to validate the proposed modeling method. Finally, a numerical example is introduced to demonstrate the possible application of the proposed method in the crack diagnosis fur rotor systems.

  • This study explores the free vibrations of tapered column with hinged end restricted by rotational spring. The ordinary differential equation governing the free vibration of such column is derived as nondimensional form in which three kinds of cross-sectional shape are considered. In order to obtain the natural frequencies of column, the governing differential equation is solved by numerical procedures. Numerical results are compared with existing solutions by other methods. It is expected that the results obtained herein can be practically utilized in the structural and the vibration control fields.

  • The aim of this paper is to propose an energy harvesting system by converting mechanical energy of revolving door into electrical energy. The method of energy harvesting system is discussed on two methods: one is the energy-harvester using gear shaft coupling system, and the other is the energy-harvester using spiral spring system. The former is generated by coupling the shaft of rotating door with generator system, while the latter is generated by connecting end-effector of door with the string of generator system. We present the experimental results for two developed energy-harvester. Finally, a comparison between these results is presented to show the validity of energy-harvester.

  • For the prediction of the real vibration and stability behaviour of rotor-beaing systems, various additional effects were considered, which are simplified or neglected by conventional modeling of real rotors. These are specially coupled spring and damping coefficients of journal bearings, spring and damping coefficients of external supporting elements for bearings, static load exerting on gears or pulleys by power transmissions, excitation through the gear tolerance or failure, and positive or negative spring and damping characteristics of magnetic or sealing friction force. Considering these effects, a computer program for the calculation of free and forced vibration of rotating shafts supported by two or more bearings is developed, based on the transfer matrixed method. The reliability of the calculated resutls were ascertianed by comparing with the measured data on high speed rotors supported by two journal bearings.
