Regression Analysis of Radar and Rain Gauge Rainfall Under the Assumption of Log-Normal Distribution (대수정규분포를 가정한 경우의 레이더 강우와 우량계 강우의 회귀분석)

  • 강우의 공간적 변동성을 파악하기 어려운 우량계 관측방법의 한계를 극복하기 위한 방법으로 레이더를 이용한 강우관측이 주목받고 있다. 레이더는 실시간으로 넓은 지역의 강우 현황을 파악하는 것이 가능하므로 강우 예측에 있어 매우 큰 장점을 갖는다. 그러나 레이더를 통해 관측된 강우는 실제값을 의미하지는 않는 것이 사실이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 레이더 및 우량계 강우자료가 대수정규분포를 따른다고 가정하는 경우의 편의보정 문제를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 대수정규분포를 따르는 자료에 대한 평균값, 중앙값 및 최빈값에 대한 회귀선을 유도하여 검토하였다. 본 연구에서는 2003년에 발생한 태풍 매미로 인해 발생한 강우 사상이 대상 호우사상으로 적용되었으며, 이에 대한 강우자료는 관악산 레이더 강우 자료와 레이더의 관측 반경 내 존재하는 국토해양부 산하 127개 우량계 시강우 자료이다. 그 결과, 독립변수로 사용된 강우자료에 따라 그 차이가 매우 큰 것으로 나타났다. 독립변수로 레이더 강우를 사용한 경우에는 G/R 보정된 레이더 강우의 과소추정 문제가 나타날 것으로 보인다. 반대로 우량계 강우를 독립변수로 한 회귀선에서는 레이더 강우의 보정결과가 어떻게 나타날지는 뚜렷하지 않다. 따라서 위와 같은 회귀선을 통해 보정한 레이더 강우의 검토가 추가적으로 필요할 것으로 보인다. 그러나 이 경우에서는 독립변수로 레이더 강우를 사용한 경우에서 나타나는 레이더 강우의 과소추정 문제가 어느 정도 극복될 것으로 보인다. 아울러 일반적으로 적용되고 G/R 보정계수에 대한 검토 및 이에 대한 비교가 또한 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

Modification of boundary bias in nonparametric regression (비모수적 회귀선추정의 바운더리 편의 수정)

  • Kernel regression is a nonparametric regression technique which requires only differentiability of the true function. If one wants to use the kernel regression technique to produce smooth estimates of a curve over a finite interval, one can realize that there exist distinct boundary problems that detract from the global performance of the estimator. This paper develops a kernel to handle boundary problem. In order to develop the boundary kernel, a generalized jacknife method by Gray and Schucany (1972) is adapted. Also, it will be shown that the boundary kernel has the same order of convergence rate as non-boundary.

Decision of G/R Ratio for the Correction of Mean-Field Bias of Radar Rainfall and Linear Regression Problem (레이더 강우의 평균보정을 위한 G/R 비의 결정과 선형 회귀 문제)

  • This study theoretically reviewed the empirical G/R ratio by considering three regression and trend lines; the general linear regression curve, linear regression curve passing the origin, and the line passing the origin and the mass center of observed data. This review included the problem of choosing the independent variable and that of considering the zero measurements. This review result was also applied to the Typhoon Maemi in 2003 for their evaluation. Additionally, those regression and trend lines were compared using the RMSE between the corrected radar rainfall and observed rain gauge rainfall to select the most appropriate G/R ratio. Summarizing the results is as follows. First, the results of selecting the rain gauge rainfall as the independent variable were found better than the opposite case. Second, the effect of zero measurements varies depending on the structure of radar and rain gauge rainfall. Finally, the results from the comparison of three regression and trend lines shows that the slope of the regression line passing the origin with its independent variable of rain gauge rainfall would be used most appropriately for the G/R ratio, especially when the corrected radar rainfall is used for the flood analysis. The effect of zero measurements in this case was found not so significant.

Regression Analysis of the Log-Normally Distributed Data and Mean Field Bias Correction of Radar Rainfall (대수정규분포를 따르는 자료의 회귀분석과 레이더 강우의 편의 보정)

  • This study investigated the problem of mean-field bias correction under the assumption that the radar and rain gauge rainfall data follow the log-normal distribution. Regression curves for the average, median and mode of the radar and rain gauge rainfall were derived and evaluated for their usefulness. Additionally, these regression curves were compared with those derived under the assumption that the radar and rain gauge data follow the normal distribution. This study investigated the regression results for the Typhoon Meami occurred in 2003 as an example. As results, three regression lines with the radar rainfall as the independent variable were found to underestimate the rainfall, while those with the rain gauge rainfall as the independent variable to overestimate. Among three types of regression curves considered, the result for the average was most appropriate. However this case was found to be inferior to the regression line passing the origin under the assumption of the normal distribution with the rain gauge rainfall as its independent variable. So it was hard to conclude that the consideration of the log-normality on the correction of radar rainfall is beneficial.

  • This study is tried to determine the probability rainfall-depth of Seoul, Daegu and Mokpo easily by using a regression line. The correlation between the probability rainfalldepth of each duration from 10-minute to 120-minute and return period is derived so as to become the linear least squares curve fit, and the analytical method that the probability rainfall-depth about the given duration is able to be gotten directory on it is studied. In this research, fair correlation among them is shown, and when the variables are transformed suitably, the application of this method to other points besides three cities are considered to be possible.

  • Consider minimizing the sum of absolute deviations for multiple regression models. If a regression line is assumed to pass a given point, then we can find that the $L_1$ regression coefficient can be defined in terms of the weighted medians of the slopes from each data point to the given point. Therefore, $L_1$ method could be regarded to find the optimal point which regression line passes over.

  • Nonparametric regression technique using kernel estimator is an attractive alternative that has received some attention, recently. The kernel estimate depends on two quantities which have to be provided by the user : the kernel function and the bandwidth. However, the more difficult problem is how to find an appropriate bandwidth which controls the amount of smoothing (see Silverman, 1986). Thus, in practical situation, it is certainly desirable to determine an appropriate bandwidth in some automatic fashion. Thus, the problem is to find a data-driven or adaptive (i.e., depending only on the data and then directly computable in practice) bandwidth that performs reasonably well relative to the best theoretical bandwidth. In this paper, we introduce a relation between bias and variance of mean square error. Thus, we present a simple and effective algorithm for selecting local bandwidths in kernel regression.

回歸分析에 있어서의 多共線性과 名稱을 保全시키는 資料變換 技法

  • 두 개의 변수의 대체효과(substitution effect)를 연구하기 위하여 수요 또는 공급의 모형을 만들었을 경우 이에 관련된 변수들의 이름이 중요시 된다. 실제 관측 자료를 사용하였을 경우 흔히 일어나는 다공선성(multicollinearity) 문제를 다루기 위한 대안으로써 선형회귀선을 예로 들어 능형회귀기법(ridge regression technique)과 요인분석기법(factor analytic technique)을 소개하였으며 이에서 얻어지는 계수(coefficient)를 OLS 추정치로 설명하기 위하여 원래의 자료를 변환하였다. 실지 수요와 공급의 모형이 비선형일 경우 일반적으로 능형회귀나 요인분석을 쓰지 못한다는 점을 감안, 이러한 방법을 자료의 변환방법으로 설명함으로써 비선형모형에서도 다공선성문제를 위하여 능형회귀분석법이나 요인분석기법을 사용할 수 있도록 하였다.

Comparative Study on the Attenuation of P and S Waves in the Crust of the Southeastern Korea (한국 남동부 지각의 P파와 5파 감쇠구조 비교연구)

  • The Yangsan fault in the southeastern Korea has been receiving increasing attention in its seismic activity. In this fault region, by using the extended coda-normalization method for 707 seismograms of local earthquakes, were obtained 0.009f$^{-1.05}$ and 0.004f$^{-0.70}$ for fitting values of Q$_p^{-1}$ and Q$_s^{-1}$, respectively. These results indicate that Q$_p^{-1}$ and Q$_s^{-1}$ in the southeastern Korea is the lowest level in the world although the exponent values agree well with those in the other areas. The low Q-1 is not related to the movement of the Yangsan fault but to the tectonically inactive status like a shield area.

  • The study was to find out whether the more difficult each activities of daily living(ADLs) is, the more high subjective health status, or health insecurity, is among those in their 65 or older in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The subjects were asked up to 1 to 5 points for subjective health status and ADLs. And according to the performance level of each activities of daily living, the order trend was analyzed in four groups (very difficult, difficult, easy, and very easy) by Jonckheere-Terpstra. Order trends were also compared using a linear regression line. Depending on the degree of difficulty in "using toilet," "bathing" and "shopping," the insecurities in subjective health status showed a corresponding order differences. It has been shown that the slope of "using toilet" on a linear regression line is the largest. The more difficult it was to "use toilet," "bathing" and "shopping," the higher the score of health insecurity was.
