Synthesis of Amino Acid-based Anionic Surfactants from Coconut Oil and Characterization of Interfacial Properties (코코넛 오일로부터 유래된 아미노산계 음이온 계면활성제의 합성 및 계면 특성 연구)

  • In this study, two types of amino acids-based anionic biosurfactants such as potassium cocoyl glutamate (CTK) and sodium cocoyl glutamate (CTN) were synthesized from coconut oils and the structure elucidation of CTK and CTN was carried out by using FT-IR, $^1H-NMR$ and $^{13}C-NMR$ spectrophotometries. Measurements of interfacial properties such as static and dynamic surface tensions and emulsification activity showed that both CTK and CTN were surface-active and effective in lowering the interfacial free energy. In particular, the CTK surfactant was found to be more efficient in reducing the interfacial free energy since the larger number of CTK molecules was preferentially adsorbed at the air-water interface due to the higher hydrophobicity and larger mobility of CTK than those of using CTN, indicating possible uses in cosmetics and household products formulation.

Combined Effects of Vital Gluten, Gum, Emulsifier, and Enzyme on the Properties of Rice Bread (활성글루텐, 검, 유화제 및 효소제의 복합첨가에 따른 쌀빵의 품질특성)

  • The effects of adding additives such as vital gluten, gum, emulsifier, and enzyme to rice flour on baking quality were examined. The effects of different gums on the pasting and dough properties of rice flour containing vital gluten were studied using a Rapid Visco Analyzer (RVA) and a Brabender farinograph. The RVA peak, breakdown, and final viscosities decreased with the addition of gums, while setback viscosity increased. The farinogram showed that rice flour supplemented with gums such as tara gum, guar gum, and locust bean gum (LBG) increased water absorption and dough stability, yielding strengthened dough similar to wheat flour dough. The addition of guar or tara gum/sodium stearoyl lactylate (SSL)/fungal $\alpha$-amylase (AMYL) or glucose oxidase (GO) blend improved the volume and reduced the crumb firmness of rice bread prepared from rice flour containing 14% vital gluten. Therefore, the combined addition of gum, emulsifier and enzyme into rice flour significantly improved the rice bread quality, allowing the decrease of the vital gluten level in rice bread formula.

  • A zwitterionic surfactant shows not only detergency but also softening effect since it shows characteristics of a nonionic or an anionic surfactant above an isoelectric point, while showing characteristics of a cationic surfactant below an isoelectric point. Therefore, a zwitterionic surfactant can serve as a dual function surfactant by a single molecule through the interconversion of cleaning and softening effects depending on pH of the aqueous solution. In this study, the dual function characteristics of an amine oxide zwitterionic surfactant were investigated by measuring the zeta potential and the isoelectric point using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). In addition, the physical properties of an amine oxide surfactant such as critical micelle concentration, surface tension, interfacial tension, contact angle and viscosity were measured and phase behavior study was also performed. The isoelectric point of an amine oxide surfactant determined by zeta potential measurement was near 7.35 and that obtained by QCM experiment was about 7.4, where both results were found to be close to the value reported in the literature.

Effects of Flux Activator on Wettability and Slump of Sn-Ag-Cu Solder Paste (플럭스 활성제 종류에 따른 Sn-Ag-Cu 솔더 페이스트의 젖음성 및 슬럼프 특성 평가)

  • Effect of activators in flux on the printability and wettability of a solder paste was evaluated in this study. The activators in this study were dicarboxylic acids, which were oxalic acid (n = 0), malonic acid (n = 1), succinic acid (n = 2), glutaric acid (n = 3), adipic acid (n = 4), and pimelic acid (n = 5). When the solder pastes were observed with a SMT scope, solder with glutaric acid showed clean and shiny surface when it was melted. Slump ratio of the solder pastes was low when the carbon numbers of the dicarboxylic acid were 1-3. Spreadability was high when the carbon number was over 2. Zero cross time of wetting balance test was under 1 sec when the carbon number was over 3. When activator was oxalic acid or malonic acid, zero cross time was over 1 sec and maximum wetting force was low. Fluxes with the oxalic acid and malonic acid showed decomposition at the temperature close to melting point. Among the dicarboxylic acids, glutaric acid provided excellent slump, spreadability, and wettability.

Effects of Additives on Soil Washing Efficiency for Mixed Surfactants (혼합 계면활성제에 적용된 각종 첨가제가 토양세척 효율에 미치는 영향)

  • To enhance the washing efficiency of soil polluted by hydrophobic organic compounds, the effects of electrolytes and monomeric organic additives on micelle formation and washing efficiency of mixed surfactant solutions were investigated in this study. The surface tensions and critical micelle concentrations(CMCs) of the single and mixed surfactant solutions[$POE_5$/SDS] supplemented by NaCl were measured to investigate the effects on washing efficiency, and the composition ratios of surfactants and NaCl were optimized for the efficient soil washing system. As the mixing ratio of $POE_5$/SDS was increased to 80%, the mixed surfactant with 0.01M NaCl showed more proportional increase of washing efficiency than the mixed surfactant without any salts. The 3% solution of $POE_5$ and SDS(80%/2o%) with 0.01M NaCl showed the washing efficiency of 90%. However, the washing efficiency was not enhanced by NaCl addition to the single surfactant solution of $POE_5$. The CMC of SDS(0.049%) was higher than that of $POE_5$(0.016%), but the CMCs of mixed surfactants were decreased as the mixing ratio of $POE_5$ was increased. Alcohols having longer chain and branched carbon chain were found to be desirable for the soil washing additives.

Y2MoO6:RE3+(RE=Eu, Sm) 형광체 분말의 제조 및 특성

  • 최근에 고효율의 적색 발광체를 개발하고자 무기물 모체에 다양한 활성제 이온을 주입하는 연구가 상당한 관심을 끌고 있다. 본 연구에서는 발광 효율이 높은 적색 형광체 분말을 제조하고자 두 종류의 활성제 이온 $Eu^{3+}$$Sm^{3+}$가 도핑된 $Y_2MoO_6$형광체 분말을 고체상태 반응법을 사용하여 전기로에서 $400^{\circ}C$에서 하소와 $1100^{\circ}C$에서 소결공정을 통하여 제조하였다. 활성제 이온의 몰 비에 따른 적색 형광체의 결정 구조, 발광과 흡광 스펙트럼을 조사하였다. 파장 299 nm로 여기 시킨 $Y_2MoO_6:Eu^{3+}$ 경우, 발광 세기가 가장 강한 611 nm의 주 피크를 방출하는 적색 스펙트럼이 관측되었으며, 함량이 0.01 mol에 0.2 mol로 증가함에 따라 611 nm의 주 적색 발광 스펙트럼의 세기가 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 파장 611 nm로 제어한 흡광 스펙트럼은 299 nm에 피크를 갖는 전하전달밴드 (CTB) 이었다 [그림 참조].

  • 계면활성제를 이용한 오염된 토양을 복원하는데 있어 계면활성제의 회수하는 방법의 하나로 한외여과 방식의 타당성을 검토하였다. 계면활성제의 종류, 전해질과 첨가제로서의 알코올 및 휴믹 물질과 점토질에 의한 상대 플럭스의 변화와 투과액의 계면활성제의 농도 변화를 살펴보았다. 계면활성제의 경우 임계미셀농도 낮을수록 투과액의 농도가 낮았으며, 기타 첨가물은 농도에 비례하여 상대 플럭스가 감소하는 경향을 보였다.

저준위 방사성 폐액의 전처리 연구

  • 저준위 방사성 폐액의 전처리공정으로써 한외여과막의 적용성을 평가하기 위해서 폐액내에 있는 오일과 계면활성제의 상호작용을 규명하고 오일에멀젼 용액의 fouling정도를 조사하였다. 막의 fouling을 감소시키는 한 방법으로 계면활성제에 의해 막의 표면을 개질하므로서 막투과 flux는 크게 증가되는 효과를 얻었다. 친수성막과 소수성막에 대하여 몇가지 계면활성제로 처리한 후 성능을 비교한 결과 소수성인 폴리솔푼막에 대한 SDS의 표면개질이 가장 유리하였다. 표면처리 막의 적용성을 평가한 결과 미량의 계면활성제나 염이 포함된 오일에멀젼 용액에 대해서는 매우 우수한 투과 성능을 얻을 수 있으나 CMC 이상의 계면활성제가 포함된 오일용액에 대해서는 처리가 불가능하였다.

Characteristics of Biosurfactant Produced by Pseudomonas sp. G314 (Pseudomonas sp. G314가 생산하는 생물 계면활성제의 특성)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the characteristics and chemical components of biosurfactant produced by Pseudomonas sp. G314. Pseudomonas sp. G314 was isolated from soil samples which were contaminated with oil in Daejon area. As such, it produced quality biosurfactant [23]. One type of biosurfactant was kept in a refrigerator, whereas another type of biosurfactant was kept in room temperature. The surface tension activities were then compared. As a result, the biosurfactant from Pseudomonas sp. G314 that was kept at room temperature was stable for 10 days, showing 26.2 dyne/cm of surface tension activity. This result was found to be similar to that of the refrigerator storage. The surface tension of batch culture was 25 dyne/cm, but the culture in the 5 l fermentor was 27 dyne/cm. Therefore, it can be suggested that the large-scale culture is feasible via the fermentor. Biosurfactant from Pseudomonas sp. G314 was estimated to be a kind of glycolipid because it dissolved in acetone and methanol much better than in benzene and toluene [23]. A spot was detected through the elution of silica gel column and the spread of TLC, and the Rf value was 0.58. This spot has a positive reaction with Bail's reagent and rhodamine 6G. Hence, we can conclude that biosurfactant from Pseudomons sp. G314 was a glycolipid containing carbohydrate and lipid.

Effect of Additives on Preparation of Silver Chloride Nanoparticles using AOT-Based W/O Microemulsions (AOT W/O 마이크로에멀젼을 이용한 AgCl 나노입자 제조에서 첨가제의 영향)

  • Effect of additives such as NP series nonionic surfactant and cosurfactant on AgCl nanoparticles was investigated where nanoparticles were prepared using two different types of water-in-oil (W/O) microemulsions containing silver nitrate and sodium chloride, respectively. Phase behavior experiments showed that the region of one phase W/O microemulsion was found to be broadened with an increase in the ethylene oxide length of a nonionic surfactant mainly due to an increase in hydrophilic nature of a surfactant. Photomicrographs obtained by transmission electron microscopy indicated that an increase in ethylene oxide length of a nonionic surfactant results in both increases in particle size and size distribution. Phase behavior experiments for the systems containing AOT surfactant, isooctane and aqueous solution of an inorganic salt showed that addition of a cosurfactant caused a shrinkage in phase region of one phase W/O microemulsion, especially water contents contained in W/O microemulsion with an increase in the chain length or the concentration of a cosurfactant used. Photomicrographs obtained by transmission electron microscopy indicated that characteristics of AgCl nanoparticles produced were dependent both on the radius of spontaneous curvature and film rigidity of a microemulsion.
