  • This study was conducted to reproduce digital colour based on the lightness of the background and size of the colour stimulus so that colour can be similarly perceived under different conditions. With the evolution of display technologies, display devices of various sizes can now reproduce more accurate colour and enhanced images, thus affecting the overall quality of display images. This study reproduced digital colour by considering the visual characteristics of the digital media environment. To accomplish this, we developed a colour appearance model which distinguishes the properties of foveal and peripheral vision. The proposed model is based on existing research on the lightness of the background and size of the colour stimulus. Based on experimental results, an analysis of variance was performed in order to develop the colour appearance model. The algorithm and modelling were verified based on the proposed model. In addition, to apply this model to display technologies, a practical colour control system and a method for handling complex input images were developed. Through this research, colour conversion errors which might occur when the input image is converted to fit a specific display size are resolved from the perspective of the human visual system. As a result, more accurate colour can be displayed and enhanced images can be reproduced.

  • In the millenium, which will be characterized by its global culture, a strong sense of identity of one's culture is needed to nature one's culture in a way that more people can participate in creating, enjoying and consuming it. In order to respond to both globalization and localization, natural and cultural backgrounds of such should be considered in the conversation of nature, so that the optical and color environment can have local identity while undergoing sustainable development. Therefore, the objective of this research is to enhance the image of a city, which is endowed with beautiful scenery and unique culture, but has lost its identity since industrialization An through a scientific and systematic color planning The Research was conducted as follows. First, color environment which doesn't reflect local characteristics due to modernism which emphasizes on uniformity was examined. Second, standard and analysis of environment color planning were examined. Natural color specimen was use to make a palette of nature colors, from which colors for architecture were extracted to come up with color combination types. Without traditional architecture philosophy, materials and colors, which were once in harmony with the environment, it is impossible to clean up the environment all together. However by using colors to control new city plans, urban redevelpment, construction and renovation gradually, that process can be effective and less costly.

  • Tibetans who live in the Tibetan highlands, the Roof of the World, have their own unique lifestyle wherein they conform to its long history, natural environment, and their own form of clothing culture. In their costumes, the use of colors, patterns and designs express religious meaning and represent the hopes and heart of life, which respects nature. This study aims to analyze the colors used in Tibetan costumes and examine the meaning of these colors. In addition, this study intends to understand the specificity of Tibetan culture through a consideration of the symbolism of the colors of ethnic costumes. By examining the literature and conducting case studies, colors of Tibetan costumes were analyzed through the I.R.I HUE-TONE system. We analyzed 96 photographs of the costumes photographed during the Tibet ceremony costume, photographs seen at the Qinghai Tibet Culture Museum and photographs from the Internet museum. The results revealed the following: First, the most important element of the costumes is connected to the five colors of JangOsaek, which gives meaning to each color. Red, navy blue, yellow, white and green symbolize fire, the sky, earth, clouds or snow, and grasslands, respectively. Second, Tibetan costumes are characterized by bold color contrasts such as red and green, black and white, red and yellow, and yellow and purple to achieve an intense harmony of colors. Third, these fancy costumes express the unique aesthetics of the Tibetan people. The primary colors follow general emotions, but they can also include their own emotion.

  • Color is an essential visual element that has a significant impact on the formation of a city's image and people's perceptions. Quantitative analysis of color in urban environments is a complex process that has been difficult to implement in the past. However, with recent rapid advances in Machine Learning, it has become possible to analyze city colors using photos shared by tourists. This study selected Dali City, a popular tourist destination in China, as a case study. Photos of Dali City shared by tourists were collected, and a method to measure large-scale city colors was explored by combining machine learning techniques. Specifically, the DeepLabv3+ model was first applied to perform a semantic segmentation of tourist sharing photos based on the ADE20k dataset, thereby separating artificial elements in the photos. Next, the K-means clustering algorithm was used to extract colors from the artificial elements in Dali City, and an adjacency matrix was constructed to analyze the correlations between the dominant colors. The research results indicate that the main color of the artificial elements in Dali City has the highest percentage of orange-grey. Furthermore, gray tones are often used in combination with other colors. The results indicated that local ethnic and Buddhist cultures influence the color characteristics of artificial elements in Dali City. This research provides a new method of color analysis, and the results not only help Dali City to shape an urban color image that meets the expectations of tourists but also provide reference materials for future urban color planning in Dali City.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the objective preference and satisfaction for the current basic educational environment as well as to suggest the solution by reducing the distance between color theory and the actual situation. The data collected in this study are 195 nursery school teachers and parents from six nursery school with similar color environment. Semantic differential developed by Osgood(1957) as analytic method is applied to analyze the psychological meaning for the color preference among them. The results of this study are as follows; First the nursery school teachers and parents are satisfied with the light tone color palette. Second the nursery school teachers and parents agree with consistent response for the middle tone color palette. Finally the nursery school teachers and parents show different inconsistent response for the vivid strong color palette.

  • The design in this study is making a plan for the exterior color design for the factory of the H. company. The concept of this design is an integrated color program considering the physical characteristics of the buildings and the functional features of the factories. And this program is based on the aesthetic characteristics forming the men-friendly, professional environment and the environment-friendly, factory image. The scope of this design was limited to the exterior color for 1 office building and 3 factory buildings, including 7 attached facilities. All the 6 colors were selected, and the blue, the company logo color, is the main color.

  • The aim of this study was to enhance the safety and care of mental health for seafarer working in passenger ship workspaces. Brightness, color values, and color distribution were investigated with issues and improvement ways identified through seafarers' interviews. Firstly, previous studies, references, current policy, regulations, and accident case studies were reviewed. Color compositions of wheelhouse and engine room of M Ship were then surveyed in the field. Color values of each space were analyzed using a colorimeter. Colormeter analysis of brightness and color measurements in the wheelhouse and engine areas indicated that ceilings, walls, and floors were generally dark, with the engine area being very dark. Regarding color, green and blue were distributed in the ceiling of the wheelhouse and engine area, while red and blue were in the walls and floors of the wheelhouse and engine area. According to interviews with seafarers currently working at engine rooms, they responded about their experience of near miss incidents due to a decrepit indoor environment, a dark working environment, slippery and bright flooring, and stairs that were not suitable for domestic users. Thus, when installing lighting in the future, the brightness of the space should be improved by distinguishing between night and day. A lighting plan considering the location of lighting, level of shadow formation and contrast, reflectance of the facility, glare, color of light, floor color plan, and material selection is needed. A facility design suitable for domestic users is also needed.

  • Technology in digital video has changed the functions of the digital video field based on various platforms, including streaming, on-demand, interactive, and data-based services. The displays that provide the visual representations of these digital video contents have also been improving with various changes. There is a variety of display screen ratios currently available, with the ratio of the display screen being based on the intended purpose. This study conducted a psychophysics experiment to examine the correlation between colour properties and shape ratio based on the display screen ratio, and then analysed the results. The colours used in the experiment were visual perception-based Munsell colours, and the hue, brightness, and chroma attributes were analysed according to the shape ratio to examine colour properties. The analysis of the results of this study defined the significance of the study as basic data for future studies on colour property changes based on shape ratio, and suggested directions for future studies.
