Removal Characteristic of Acidic Ion in Aqueous Solution by Alumina (알루미나에 의한 수용액 중의 산성이온 제거 특성)

  • The removal characteristics of ionic species, such as $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Sr^{2+}$, $SO{_4}^{2-}$, $NO{_3}^-$, and $Cl^-$ by adsorption on the alumina were investigated. Alumina precusor powders were prepared from $Al(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$ and $NH_4OH$. Alumina materials prepared from the heat treatment in a furnace at $450{\sim}750^{\circ}C$ for 5 h were analysed using FT-IR and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method. The specific surface area of the product particles decreased significantly with treatment temperature. The adsorption capacities of $SO{_4}^{2-}$and $NO{_3}^-$ on alumina were 23 mg/g and 12.4 mg/g, respectively. But, removal efficiencies of $Cl^-$ were less than 4 mg/g. In general, the removal efficiencies of the anion species were decreased with increasing treatment temperature. The best anion removal efficiency was obtained when the alumina was treated under $450^{\circ}C$. Removal efficiencies of $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, and $Sr^{2+}$ were increased with increasing treatment temperature.

Synthesis and Photodecomposition of N-Doped $TiO_2$ Surface Treated by Ammonia (암모니아 표면처리 된 질소 도핑 $TiO_2$ 광촉매의 합성 및 광분해반응)

  • Nitrogen doped $TiO_2$ photocatalysts were prepared by ammonia for exploring the visible light photocatalytic activity. To explore the visible light photocatalytic activity of the nitrogen doped $TiO_2$ photocatalyst, the removal of methylene blue dye was investigated under the sunlight. SEM images showed that the flocculated particle sizes of N-doped $TiO_2$ decreased due to the reaction with ammonia. XRD patterns demonstrated that the samples calcined at temperatures up to $600^{\circ}C$ and doped with nitrogen using ammonia clearly showed rutile as well as anatase peaks. The XPS results showed that the nitrogen composition onto $TiO_2$ increased according to the reaction time with ammonia. Photocatalytic activity of the nitrogen doped $TiO_2$ was better than that of undoped $TiO_2$. Nitrogen doping onto the $TiO_2$ also affected the crystal type of $TiO_2$ photocatalyst.

Preparation and Properties of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Poly(olefin ketone) Composites (유리섬유 강화 폴리올레핀케톤 복합재료의 제조 및 특성에 대한 연구)

  • Poly(olefin ketone) terpolymer having excellent mechanical properties was synthesized and composite materials of poly(olefin ketone) containing polyurethane/amino silane functionalized glass fibers were prepared. The compatibilities between the functionalized glass fiber and the polymer were characterized by observing the fracture surfaces of the composites using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical properties of composites with different contents, diameters, lengths, and binders of glass fibers were also studied using universal testing machine (UTM). The introduction of suitably functionalized glass fiber into the poly(olefin ketone) produces composite materials having excellent mechanical properties and they are very promising alternative materials for the engineering plastic applications.

Comparison of Colorless and Transparent Polyimide Films with Various Amine Monomers (다양한 아민 단량체를 이용한 무색 투명 폴리이미드 필름의 특성비교)

  • A series of polyimide was prepared by reacting 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) as the anhydride monomer and 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine (TFB), 2,2'-bis(3-aminophenyl)hexafluoropropane (BAFP), 2,2'-bis(3- amino- 4-methylphenyl) hexafluoropropane (BAMF), bis(3-aminophenyl)sulfone (APS), p-xylyenediamine (p-XDA), or m-xylyenediamine (m-XDA) as the amine monomer in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc). Colorless and transparent polyimide (PI) films were obtained by casting the poly(amic acid)s (PAAs) solution at various heat treatment temperatures. The thermal properties of the PI films were examined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and thermomechanical analysis (TMA) and the mechanical properties were investigated using universal tensile machine (UTM), Their optical transparencies were also investigated using ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis.) spectrophotometry and colorimetry. The yellow index (YI) and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) values of all PIs were in the range 0.98~2.76 and 25.73~55.23 $ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Conversion Efficiency of Dye-sensitized Solar Cells Using Multi-layered $TiO_2$ Electrodes (다층구조의 $TiO_2$ 전극을 이용한 염료감응형 태양전지의 변환효율)

  • Recently, the design of the multi-layered $TiO_2$ electrodes has been attracted for high efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells. In this study, conversion efficiency of the multi-layered $TiO_2$ electrodes was investigated by using small and large $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. Nanostructured $TiO_2$ powders were prepared by $TiCl_4$ hydrolysis. Differently sized $TiO_2$ powders of which the average diameter was 7.6 and 18 nm were obtained by controlled calcination temperature. It was confirmed that multi-layered $TiO_2$ electrodes significantly influence short-circuit current (Jsc) and also show higher conversion efficiency than dye-sensitized solar cells consisting of each particles.

  • Cr(VI)-heterocyclic complex (2,4'-bipyridinium chlorochromate) was synthesized by the reaction between heterocyclic compound(2,4'-bipyridine) and chromium trioxide, and characterized by IR and ICP analysis. The oxidation of benzyl alcohol using 2,4'-bipyridinium chlorochromate in various solvents showed that the reactivity increased with the increase of the dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}$), in the order : N,N-dimet-hylformamide (DMF) > acetone > chloroform > cyclohexene. In the presence of DMF solvent with acidic catalyst such as hydrochloric acid (HCl solution), 2,4'-bipyridinium chlorochromate oxidized benzyl alcohol (H) and its derivatives (p-$CH_3$, m-Br, m-$NO_2$). Electron-donating substituents accelerated the reaction rate, whereas electron acceptor groups retarded the reaction rate. The Hammett reaction constant (${\rho}$) was -0.67 (303 K). The observed experimental data have been rationalize the proton transfer occurred followed the formation of a chromate ester in the rate-determining step.

Effect of Isocyanate Index on the Physical Properties of Rigid Polyurethane Foam under Sea Water (해수에서 이소시아네이트 인덱스 변화가 경질폴리우레탄 폼의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • The rigid polyurethane foams (PUF) were prepared using polyols with 90, 110, 130, and 150 isocyanate index. The effect of sea water on the physical properties of PUF with the increase in isocyanate (NCO) index and ageing time was investigated. Tensile strengths and compressive strengths of the PUFs decreased up to 10% and 7% with an increase in ageing time, respectively. Cell morphology of the PUF under sea water was turned out to be the same as that in the ambient condition. It was observed that $T_g$ and tensile modulus of the PUF under sea water increased. The results showed an additional cross-link reaction of non-reacted MDI and the change of NCO peak as observed from FT-IR spectrum.

Effect of Halogen-phosphours Flame Retardant Content on Properties of Rigid Polyurethane Foam (인-할로겐계 난연제가 경질폴리우레탄 폼의 물성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, the effect of halogen-phosphorus flame retardant on the flame retardancy and the mechanical properties of the rigid polyurethane foam (PUF) were studied. The reduced compressive strength and glass transition temperature of PUF decreased as contents of the flame retardant increased. After aging, the reduced compressive strength and glass transition temperature of PUF increased due to the reaction of unreacted isocyanate. The cell morphology effect of these flame retardants was also investigated using scanning electron microscope. The results of TCEP added to PUF showed an unstable and uneven cell morphology, leading to the increase of in thermal conductivity. The flame retardancy of vacuum aged PUF decreased compared to that of fresh PUF.

Studies of Adsorption on the Anionic Surface of $SiO_2$ by Cationic Modified Starches (전분의 양성화 개질을 통한 음이온성 $SiO_2$ 표면에서의 흡착 특성 연구)

  • The adsorption characteristics of cationic starches and starch-oligomers were investigated using the quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D). The adsorbed amount of modified starches was higher than that of cationic surfactants such as $C_{12{\sim}16}$ trimethylammonium bromide. Cationic starches did not show the tendency depending on the degree of cationic substitution and molecular weight. On the other hand, the softness of the adsorption layer increased with the molecular weight of cationic starches in a viscoelasticity terms. During the adsorption/desorption steps, the amount of adsorbed cationic surfactants was 4~9 times. On the other hand, the difference in the amount of adsorption of all the $C_1$ grafted cationic starches was just 0~50%. In addition, the rigidity of the adsorption layer of cationic surfactant in the desorption step decreased, while, that of cationic starches increased at the same condition.

Efficient Oxidative Scission of Alkenes or Alkynes with Heterogeneous Ruthenium Zirconia Catalyst (루테늄 지르코니아 불균일 촉매를 이용한 알켄 또는 알킨의 효과적인 산화절단반응)

  • The efficiency of a heterogeneous ruthenium zirconia catalyst ($Ru(OH)_x/ZrO_2$) was demonstrated to the selective oxidative transformation of alkenes or alkynes. The scissions of C-C double bonds to aldehydes and triple bonds to diketones or carboxylic acids were carried out with (diacetoxyiodo)benzene as an oxidant under dichloromethane (5 mL)/water (0.5 mL) solvent system at $30^{\circ}C$ for wide range of substrates. The $Ru(OH)_x/ZrO_2$composite showed higher catalytic activity and selectivity than other ruthenium-based homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysts for the scission reaction. The catalyst exhibited a high mechanical stability, and no leaching of the metal was observed during the reaction. These features ensured the reusability of the catalyst for several times for the oxidative cleavage of unsaturated hydrocarbons.
