In this study, Numerical simulations were performed to analyze the characteristics of fire driven smoke flow for different location of fire source in the deeply underground subway station with using FDS code. The fire driven smoke-flow which was simulated by using Parallel Computational Method for fast calculation and LES for turbulence model. In this research, the fire location to obstruct a suitable egress from the fire disaster were discussed.
The first operation of alarm system starts at a detector. And the largest effect is produced on the operation of detector by the fire source position and installation position. Nevertheless, the Korean standard for the installation of detector only specifies matters of fire detector installation according to area and height, without consideration of installation position and fire source position. Therefore, this study carried out a fire test in consideration of detector installation position and fire source position (5 places) in order to minimize casualties owing to the fast operation of fire detector when a fire occurred. Considering that it took the longest time for a detector close to a wall to work in the results of this test, it was possible to find that a minimum clearance to the wall was required.

The present study numerically investigates the effect of obstacles located in the trajectory of fire plume flow on heat flow characteristics by using Fire Dynamics Simulation (FDS) software in an underground combined cycle power plant (CCPP). Fire size is taken as 10 MW and two different locations of fire source are selected depending on the presence of an obstacle. As the results, when the obstacle is in the trajectory of fire plume, hot plume arrives at the ceiling about 5 times slower in the upper of the fire in comparison to the results without obstacle. In addition, the average propagation time of ceiling jet increases by about 70 % with the distance from the ceiling in the upper of the fire, and it increases mainly about 4 times at the distance of 10 m. Consequently, it is noted that the analysis of heat flow characteristics in the underground CCPP considering fire scenarios is essential to develop the fire detection system for initial response on evacuation and disaster management.
Purpose: Recently, the number of logistics warehouses has been on the rise. In addition, as the number of such logistics warehouses increases, number of fire accidents also increases every year, increasing the importance of preventing fires in large logistics warehouses. Method: investigated aspirating smoke detectors that are emerging as adaptive fire detectors in logistics warehouses. Then, through fire simulation (FDS), logistics warehouse modeling was conducted to compare and analyze the detection speed of general smoke detectors and aspirating smoke detectors according to four stages of fire growth and three locations of fire in the logistics warehouse. Result: Growth speed in Slow-class fires and Mediumclass fires, the detection speed of aspirating smoke detectors was faster regardless of the location of the fire. However, in Fast-class fires and Ultra-Fast-class fires, it was confirmed that the detection speed of general smoke detectors was faster depending on the location of the fire. Conclusion: It was confirmed that the detection performance of the aspirating smoke detector decreased as the fire growth speed increased and the location of the fire occurred further than the receiver of the aspirating smoke detector. Therefore, even if an aspirating smoke detector is installed in a warehouse that stores combustibles with high fire growth rates, it is judged that an additional smoke detector is attached far away from the receiver of the general smoke detector to increase fire safety.

This study conducted comparative analysis to estimate critical velocity in tunnel fire under variation of grid number and the location and size of the fire source using three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics. In the target tunnel, by one-dimensional way, the calculated critical velocity in the tunnel, 2.22 m/s was estimated, if appling hydraulic diameter, instead of the tunnel height. According to six numerical analysis, each grid number has different position, temperature, and CO concentration of back-layering. In the case of the subject, the case 1 with 0.84 million grid was found to be the most ideal. According to the location and size of the fire source, after three cases for three-dimensional numerical analysis was performed, it is resulted that the location and size of the fire source affect the critical velocity, because air velocity distribution, temperature distribution and CO concentration distribution showed different each case. This is due to the difference of heat exchange area and locations. Therefore, it is necessary to decide appropriate grid number, and the location and size of the fire source for processing techniques through comparison with actual experiment results and three-dimensional analysis.
The present study is a basic investigation for systematically proceeding disaster prevention studying the effect of platform screen door in case of fire at the subway station. In the paper, the characteristics of screen door were surveyed and described. The fully closed platform screen door and the island type of subway station were employed for simulation-study. Numerical simulations of fire driven flow at the subway station with platform screen door were performed with commercial fire CFD code. For analyzing of the effect of platform screen door, the fire simulations with and without the platform screen door were compared. For the fire location, the one is located on the platform and the other case on the railway. The Ultrafast model was taken as fire growth scenario. The maximum heat release rate was 10MW. The propagated time of the heat and smoke to stairs was within 4 minute when the fire is located on the platform. However the heat and smoke propagation was block off by screen door when the fire is located on the railway.

This study evaluated the fire detection performance of an automatic fire extinguishing system for road tunnels, which combines flame wavelength detection technology with flame image detection technology. This fusion technique to improve the fire detection capability can reduce the damage caused by the fire suppression by locating the fire source in the fire and discharging the pressurized water only at the fire source. Experiments were conducted to determine the position of a fire source when a $70cm{\times}70cm$ target was placed at a distance of 15 m, 20 m, 25 m, 30 m, and 35 m, respectively, in a situation where there is a flame and smoke in a tunnel. The performance of the ultraviolet and triple wavelength infrared (IR3) sensors was attenuated due to the interference of thick smoke. In addition when the flame was blocked by thick smoke, the image sensor sensed the smoke and emitted a fire signal.
In this study, reduced-scale experiments were conducted to understand smoke movements in tunnel fires with the natural ventilation. The 1/20 scale experiments were conducted under the Froude scaling since the smoke movement in tunnels is governed by buoyancy force. Three cases of experiments, in which a natural vent location varied from 1 m, 2 m and 3 m from the fire source symmetrically, were conducted in order to evaluate the effect of the position of ventilation systems on smoke movement. In case of a poo1 whose diameter is 4.36 cm, the temperature of smoke layer passed through the vent was maintained 7~$8^{\circ}c$ less than that of smoke layer without a vent. In case of a pool whose diameter is 5.23 cm, the average velocity passed through the vent was decreased when it was close to the fire source. And the maximum delay time was 3.86s. In CASE 1, the ceiling temperature was decreased by approximately 8$^{\circ}C$ and the vertical temperature was decreased by approximately $7^{\circ}c$. In CASE 2, both ceiling and vertical temperature wert decreased by $3^{\circ}c$ and in CASE 3, they were decreased by $2^{\circ}c$ each. It was confirmed that the thickness of smoke layer was maintained uniformly under the 25% height of tunnel through the visualized smoke flow by a laser sheet and the digital camcoder.

Fire localization is a key mission that must be preceded for an autonomous fire suppression system. Although studies using a variety of sensors for the localization are actively being conducted, the fire localization is still unfinished due to the high cost and low performance. This paper presents the modeling and simulation of the fire localization estimation using Bayesian estimation to determine the probabilistic location of the fire. To minimize the risk of fire accidents as well as the time and cost of preparing and executing live fire tests, a 40m × 40m-virtual space is created, where two ultraviolet sensors are simulated to rotate horizontally to collect ultraviolet signals. In addition, Bayesian estimation is executed to compute the probability of the fire location by considering both sensor errors and uncertainty under fire environments. For the validation of the proposed method, sixteen fires were simulated in different locations and evaluated by calculating the difference in distance between simulated and estimated fire locations. As a result, the proposed method demonstrates reliable outputs, showing that the error distribution tendency widens as the radial distance between the sensor and the fire increases.
