A New species of Elsholtzia (Lamiaceae): E. byeonsanensis M. Kim (향유속(꿀풀과)의 신종: 변산향유(Elsholtzia byeonsanensis M. Kim))

  • A new species, Elsholtzia byeonsanensis M. Kim is named and described from Byeonsan, Jeollabukdo Province, Korea. Molecular data confirmed that this new taxon was distinguished from other congeneric species. Elsholtzia byeonsanensis shares several characteristics (secund spikes, ovate leaves, long corolla length, etc.) with its related species E. splendens, but it is distinct from E. splendens which has a large plant, green stem color, chartaceous leaf textures, non-shiny leaf surfaces, pubescent petioles, pubescent leaf blade surfaces, pubescent bract surface, and open woodland habitats by having a small plant, purple stem color, coriaceous leaf textures, shiny leaf surfaces, glabrous petioles, glabrous leaf blade surfaces, glabrous bract surface, and marine habitats.

Jasminum albicalyx Kobuski (Oleaceae): a new record from Vietnam (Jasminum albicalyx Kobuski: 베트남 미기록종)

  • We report a new record of Jasminum albicalyx Kobuski in Vietnam. The plant differs from J. pedunculatum Gagnep., a closely related taxon, by foliar and floral characters such as less number of lateral veins, presence of domatia at vein axils on the abaxial surface of leaf, smaller bracts, white calyx having more number of lobes and less number of lobes in corolla. Morphological description, line drawing and color photographs are provided in addition to the species key of allied species of Jasminum albicalyx in Vietnam.

  • Generally, the envelope of a freeform building is composed of a structure made with rectangular or C-shaped steel pipe, and steel or aluminum panel finishes on the structure. However, these construction methods increase material loss and cost and time. There are also numerous cases of misunderstanding of design and difficulties in construction, which frequently cause construction errors. Such construction errors decrease construction productivity, resulting in poor construction quality and the need for rework, as well as cost and time overruns. To solve the problem, this study proposes a 3D coordinate control technology for freeform structure implemented through a CNC(Computerized Numerical Control) Twisted tube method, and by extension, develops a BIM-based envelope construction method for freeform building.

Taxonomic Study on Cirsium Miller (Asteraceae) in Korea Based on External Morphology (외부형태형질에 의한 한국산 엉겅튀속(Cirsium Miller)의 분류학적 연구)

  • Patterns of morphological variation in Korean Cirsium were examined using numerical analysis, and the delimitation of taxa was evaluated. Principal components analysis of individuals of taxa using 61 morphological characters revealed the presence of two major groups. One group included C. lineare, C. vlassovianum, and C. setidens, the other contained C. pendulum, C. japonicum var. japonicum, C. japonicum var. spinosissimum, C. schantarense, C. nipponicum, and C. rhiniceros. Also, the result of cluster analysis recognized three sections, Onotrophe, Pseudo-eriolepis, and spanioptilon. Korean Cirsium was classified into three sections; C. japonicum var. japonicum, C. japonicum var. spinosissimum, C. schantarense, C. rhiniceros and C. nipponicum were belonged to sect. Onotrophe, C. setidens, C. vlassovianum and C. lineare were belonged to sect. Spanioptilon, and C. pendulum was belonged to sect. Pseudo-eriolepis. In conclusion, Korean Cirsium was classified into three sections, eight species, three varieties, and five forms.

First report of a newly naturalized Sisyrinchium micranthum and a taxonomic revision of Sisyrinchium rosulatum in Korea (한국 미기록 귀화식물 연등심붓꽃과 등심붓꽃의 분류학적 재검토)

  • Sisyrinchium micranthum Cav., a newly naturalized species, was found in Seogwipo, Jeju-do. This species is native to Central and South America and is reported as a widely invasive species around the world. Sisyrinchium micranthum is a sister species of S. rosulatum E. P. Bicknell (Deung-Sim-But-Kkot in Korean), reported as an invasive species earlier in Korea, and both species are members of the subgenus Echthronema. Sisyrinchium micranthum is distinguished from S. rosulatum by the urceolate shape of its flowers and by the large size of its fruits and seeds. Its local name is "Yeon-Deung-Sim-But-Kkot" based on the light blue corolla. We also found that Sisyrinchium angustifolium Mill., previously used for Deung-Sim-But-Kkot, was misapplied. It belongs to the subgenus Sisyrinchium and is morphologically very different from S. rosulatum. We corrected the scientific name of Deung-Sim-But-Kkot by changing it from S. angustifolium to S. rosulatum based on the type specimens, original descriptions, and recent studies.

  • This landscape design is a work for which we selected the square of Sejong Center for the Performing Arts as a object area, drew inhuman factors, and tried to restore them to human environment. This plan assumes that excessive urban environment results from disorder and man can keep it in order and restore it to human environment through the progressive process of speculation. In this plan, we included the least parking space and nearby roads in the object area to maximize the location feature and the symbol of cultural space, and planned that the object area may play its role of open space in the downtown. To grant the symbol of culture space, we established the progressive process of speculation and the relationship of mu, heaven and earth, and culture, geometrically diagrammatized it, combined the circular and rectangular lines derived from it, and suggested a plan. Urban environment will continue to change in the future. However, as long as it is not ensured that the change will progress upward, city would be far from human environment anyhow. Effects to display inhuman space overlooked in the downtown and restore it to human environment for citizen and location for man, should continue.

Numerical Taxonomy of Cirsium japonicum Complex(Asteraceae) in Korea (한국산 엉겅퀴군(국화과) 식물의 수리분류학적 연구)

Principal components analysis of taxa using 24 morphological characters and 11 leaf characters revealed the presence of two major groups; C. japonicum var. japonicum and C. japonicum var. spinosissimum. Circium japonicum f. nakaianum could be included in the category of C. japonicum var. japonicum. In conclusion, Korean C. japonicum complex was composed of two varieties and one form, C. Japonicum var. japonicum, C. japonicum var. spinosissimum, and C. japonicum var. spinosissimum f. alba.

Marine Hydroids(Cnidaria: Hydrozoa: Hydroida) from Cheju Island, Korea (제주도 해산 히드라충류(자포동물 문: 히드라충 강: 히드라충 목))

  • The marine hydroids of Cheju Island in this work identified into 46 species and/or subspecies of 25 genera in 10 families. Of which four species: Rhizocaulus chinensis, Obelia bicuspidata, Sertularia desmoides and Plumularia spinulosa are new to the hydroid fauna of Cheju Island and four species: Hebella parastica, Campanularia groenlandica, Campanularia everta and Sertulareffa natalensis are new to the Korean fauna. Adding these eight species to the previous known species (83 species and/or subspecies) in Cheju Island, the hydroid fauna in Cheju Island identified up to date consists of 91 species and/or subspecies of 41 genera in 12 families. Macrorhynchia phoenicea is dominant species which occur in 10 points, Aglaophenia suensonii in eight points. 71 species (78%) occur in Songsanp'o, 43 species (47%) in Munsom, 26 species (29%) in Supsom, 13 species (14%) in Wimi-ri and 11 species (12%) in P - omsom in order. Thirty-three percent (30 species) of the hydroids of Cheju Island was only found in Cheju Island.

Molecular Phylogenetic Studies of Korean Calystegia R.Br. Based on ITS and psbA-trnH Sequences (ITS와 psbA-trnH 염기서열에 의한 한국산 메꽃속(Calystegia R.Br.)의 분류학적 연구)

  • Molecular phylogenetic studies were conducted to evaluate evolutionary trends, relationships and species identities among four species, one variety and one outgroup of the Korean Genus Calystegia. The important characteristics of Calystegia are the shape of the lamina, the length ofthe corolla and the presence of hair. However, many variations were observed as regards the characteristics of the leaf, making true identification difficult. In molecular phylogenetic studies, C. soldanella formed one clade, and it was located mostly in the base. C. hederacea and C. sepium did not form an independent clade in their ITS regions and psbA-trnH regions, and this investigation could not confirm a relationship. Therefore, a relationship between these two species is not sufficiently supported by these markers (ITS and psbA-trnH). Consequently, this research should be achieved through many samples and markers. C. sepium var. japonica and C. dahurica are closely related.
