여름철 서식 한국산 홍조류 둥근돌김 (Porphyra suborbiculata)의 형태 및 18S rDNA 염기서열 분석 (Morphology and Sequence Analysis of Nuclear 18S rDNA from the Summer Strain of Porphyra suborbiculata (Rhodophyta) in Korea)

  • The 185 ribosomal RNA gene (185 rDNA) of the marine alga Porphyra sp. 723 (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) was amplified using the polymerase chain reaction and its sequence was analysed. The Porphyra species was a summer strain collected on rocks in upper intertidal zone at Ikidae, Pusan on 23rd July 1999. The fronds were $1{\~}5 cm$ long, monostromatic, and orbicular or ovate shaped, They had spinulate processes at margin of the frond, Comparison of this 185 rDNA sequence with the other Forphyra species indicates that Porphyra sp. 723 has the same 185 rDNA sequence derived from Porphyra suborbiculata (NCBI access number; AB 013180) except one base pair substitution in 2327 base pairs.

극지 홍조류 Polysiphonia stricta에서 분리된 methyl trans-aconitate 유도체들과 항산화 활성 (Isolation and Antioxidant Activity of Methyl Aconitates from Arctic Red Alga Polysiphonia stricta)

  • In our continuing study on the antioxidant activity of Polysiphonia stricta, its crude extract was fractionated into n-hexane, 85% aqueous methanol (85% aq.MeOH), n-butanol (n-BuOH), and water fractions according to solvent polarity. The solvent fractions were evaluated for their potential to inhibit lipid peroxidation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in HT 1080 cells. The n-BuOH fraction most strongly inhibited both lipid peroxidation and ROS production in HT 1080 cells. The n-BuOH fraction was further separated by repeated silica gel column chromatography and RP-HPLC to give methyl aconitates (2 and 3). The chemical structure of isolated compounds was determinated by NMR spectral analysis.

회춘보음탕(回春補陰湯) 투여로 호전된 열성홍조를 동반한 폐경기 장애 치험 2례 (Two Case Reports of the Menopausal Disorder with Hot Flashes Treated with Hoechunboeum-tang)

  • Objectives: Hormone replacement therapy may relieve many symptoms of menopause; however, hormone replacement therapy may increase the risk of breast cancer, stroke, and dementia. This case study describes the effect of Hoechunboeum-tang on the menopausal disorder of hot flashes, which has been well documented as a cause of distress to patients undergoing menopause. Methods and Results: Two female patients suffering from severe hot flashes related to menopausal disorders were administered the herbal medicine, Hoechunboeum-tang. Measurements included hot flash frequency over a 24 hour period, hot flash severity (visual analogue scale), and hot flash-related daily interference and were recorded during the last week before herbal medicine and again after 7 and 15 days of herbal treatment. The patients were asked about their hot flash symptoms 6 months later and both reported that the symptoms had been successfully reduced after herbal treatment and were still reduced after 6 months. Conclusions: Hoechunboeum-tang could have a beneficial effect on menopausal disorder with hot flashes.

  • 본 증례는 대인기피, 대면시 안면홍조 손떨림 등의 증상이 있는 사회공포증 환자에게 한약 처방으로 가미온담탕(加味溫膽湯)을 투여하고 백회(百會), 소부(少府), 신문(神門), 합곡(合谷), 태충(太衝) 등 혈위(穴位)의 침치료와 지언고론요법(至言高論療法), 경자평지요법(驚者平之療法)의 한방정신요법을 사용하여 유효한 결과를 입증한 예이다.

AKD 처리한 홍조류섬유 보강 바이오복합재료의 특성 (Effect of Alkyl Ketene Dimer(AKD) on Red Algae Reinforced Biocomposites)

  • Biocomposites were fabricated with biodegradable polymers and natural fibers. Biocomposites have benefits of low cost, low density, and biodegradability over inorganic fiber composite, and give comparable strength properties. Hydrophobic polymer used for sizing in paper industry, AKD (Akenyl Keten Dimer), was applied to natural fibers, red algae fibers (RAF) in this study, to make fiber surfaces more compatible to hydrophobic nature of matrix polymers. Composites with RAF, kenaf, glass fibers, and carbon fibers have been fabricated by a compression molding method and their thermo-mechanical properties have been studied. Also, the thermal dimensional stability test was done from at 30 to $100^{\circ}C$. The storage moduli and the thermo-mechanical stabilities of polypropylene and poly lactic acid based biocomposites were improved by reinforcing with the RAF and much more with AKD treated fibers. Dimensional stability of biocomposite was also markedly improved by AKD pretrement on RAF.

기능성을 향상시킨 다양한 전도성 고분자의 전기 변색 현상 (Electrochromism of Various Conducting Polymers with Enhanced Functionality)

  • 전도성 고분자에 곁가지로 chromophore를 결합시켜 만든 다양한 전기 변색 물질과 그 특성을 소개하였다. 전도성 고분자로는 Polypyrrole, Polythiophene, Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), Poly(cyclopen-tadithiophene), 및 poly (1,4-bis [2- (3,4-ethylenedioxy)thienyl] benzene)를 사용하고, chromophore로는 viologen과 perylenetetracarboxylic diimide를 사용한 경우에 대하여 설명하였다. 전도성 고분자와 thromophore의 변색 파장 범위가 다른 경우에는 변색의 다양성을 성취할 수 있었으며, 변색 파장 범위가 비슷한 경우에는 색대비를 높일 수 있다. 최대 색대비를 나타내는 필름의 두께를 쉽게 예측할 수 있는 방법도 설명하였다.

해조류에 의한 아질산염 소거활성 분석-연구노트- (Determination of Nitrite-scavenging Activity of Seaweed)

  • 일상 식생활에서 널리 섭취하고 있는 식용 및 미식용인 16종의 해조류를 사용하여 니트로사민의 직접적인 생성인자인 아질산염 소거작용에 관하여 검토하였다. 그 결과, 갈조류의 경우가 녹조류 및 홍조류에 비해 우수한 분해효과를 나타내었으며 갈조류 중에서도 다시마과의 감태, 곰피, 구멍쇠 미역이 뛰어난 아질산염 분해효과를 나타내었다. 또한 각 시료 모두 pH의존성이 크게 나타나 pH 4.2 및 6.0에서 보다 pH 1.2에서 아질산염 분해효과가 뛰어났으며 아질산염 분해효과가 우수할수록 환원력이 높아 아질산염 분해능과 환원력은 밀접한 관련성을 나타내었다.

갈락토스-글루코스 혼합당 수소 발효 (Hydrogen Fermentation of the Galactose-Glucose Mixture)

  • Galactose, an isomer of glucose with an opposite hydroxyl group at the 4-carbon, is a major fermentable sugar in various promising feedstock for hydrogen production including red algal biomass. In this study, hydrogen production characteristics of galactose-glucose mixture were investigated using batch fermentation experiments with heat-treated digester sludge as inoclua. Galactose showed a hydogen yield compatible with glucose. However, more complicated metabolic steps for galactose utilization caused a slower hydrogen production rate. The existence of glucose aggravated the hydrogen production rate, which would result from the regulation of galactose-utilizing enzymes by glucose. Hydrogen produciton rate at galactose to glucose ratio of 8:2 or 6:4 was 67% of the production rate for galactose and 33% for glucose, which could need approximately 1.5 and 3 times longer hydraulic retention time than galacgtose only condition and glucose only condition, respectively, in continuous fermentation. Hydrogen production rate, Hydrogen yield, and organic acid production at galactose to glucose ratio of 8:2 or 6:4 were 0.14 mL H2/mL/hr, 0.78 mol $H_2$/mol sugar, and 11.89 g COD/L, respectively. Galactose-rich biomass could be usable for hydogen fermenation, however, the fermentation time should be allowed enough.

서해안 무창포의 조간대 해조 군집구조의 분석 (The Structure Analysis of Intertidal Algal Community in Muchangpo, Western Coast of Korea)

  • 충남 보영군 무창포해수욕장 일대의 조간대 해조군집에 대하여, 종조성, 우점종과 수직분포의 계절적 변화, 그리고 현존량을 1981년 봄-겨울에 걸쳐 조사하였다. 조사기간을 통하여 총 64종(남조 1종, 연조 3종, 갈조 19종, 홍조 41종)의 해조류가 관찰되었다. 조사지역의 해조류 군집은 Sargassum thunbergii, Gelidium divaricatum 및 Pelvetia siliquosa로 대표되었다. 한편, Gloiopeltis furcata는 조간대 상일중부에서, Corallina pilulifera는 하부에서 높은 피도를 보였다. 식생자료에 대한 classification (UPGMA)과 ordination(RA) 결과, 대체로 조위의 하중이 인정되는 경향성을 보였으며, 계절에 따른 군집구조의 변동에 대하여 검토하였다. 단위면적당 평균현존량은 57,2~92.8 g-dry/$m^2$의 범위로서, 봄에 낮고 여름에 높았다.

갱년기증후군 환자의 안면홍조 증상과 맥 에너지와의 상관성 연구 (A Study on Relationship between Hot Flush and Pulse Energy Measured by 3D Blood Pressure Pulse Analyzer in Women Who Complain of Perimenopausal and Postmenopausal Syndrome)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the pulse energy and hot flush in women who complain of climacteric syndrome. Methods: We analyzed the values of pulse energy on 78 of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. The symptoms of patients were assessed by Kupperman’s index (KI) and Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). Statistical analysis was performed by Spearman correlation coefficient and student T-test, using SPSS 18.0 for window program. Results: The results were as follows. 1. There were no statistically significant relation between pulse energy of left Cheok subtracted from left Chon and KI, MRS hot flush score. 2. When divided depending on MRS hot flush score, There were no statistically significant differences on pulse energy. Conclusions: The results suggest that there is no correlation between hot flush score and pulse energy.
