Origin of the Jechon granite: a review of the Sr isotope data (제천 화강암의 기원: 스트론티움 동위원소 자료의 재고)

  • Review of metamorphic terms and rock names from various published articles in Korea reveals that they have often been misused and they may lead to a faulty results in the interpretations of the geologic mass. Their usage can be classified into several groups. A few simple rules are proposed for use in naming metamorphic rocks. The new rock names make by the proposed rules are listed as table with old names.

Field Evidence of Magma Mixing from Concentric Zoning and Mafic Microgranular Enclaves in Bunam Stock, Korea (청송 부남암주의 동심원상 누대와 포유체로부터 마그마 혼합작용의 야외증거)

  • The Bunam Stock ($29.5km^2$ area) is an outcrop of plutonic complex classified four facies: coarse-grained granite, quartz monzodiorite, granodiorite and fine-grained granite. Three facies except the last one exhibit very irregular boundaries with gradational compositional variations between both facies and show concentric zoning from the central quartz monzodiorite through granodiorite to outer coarse-grained granite. Mafic microgranular enclaves (MME) commonly occur in granodiorite. Some MMEs, have very fine-grained chilled margins and indentedly crenulate contacts, and display horizontally circular and vertically elongate shapes. Their shape and granularity indicate coeval flow and mingling of partly crystalline felsic and mafic magmas. MMEs exhibit dark fine-grained margins giving them a ellipsoidal form that has been attributed to undercooling of a mafic magma as blobs intruded into a felsic magma. The observed relations in the Bunam Stock identify that two endmembers are coarse-grained granite from a felsic magma and quartz monzodiorite from a mafic magma, and hybrid is granodiorite including MMEs. So they exhibit concentric zoning that lays the center on the mafic endmember due to magma mixing at the contacts of two magmas, when mafic magma injected into felsic magma. Thus the quartz monzodiorite may probably represent an ancient conduit of mafic magma transport through a granitic magma chamber. Mafic magma would rise through the conduit in which favorable conditions for magma mixing occurred. All these features suggest that they formed from mixing processes of calc-alkaline magma in the Bunam Stock.

An Experimental Study on the Optimal Mix Proportion for Antiwashout Underwater Concrete (수중불분리성 혼화제를 첨가한 콘크리트의 최적배합비에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Many underwater concrete structures have been constructed recently in proportion to the increase of ocean developments. The research for the underwater concrete construction was mainly focused in view of placing method. Recently, special admixture agents of concrete were developed for antiwashout concrete under water in some foreign nations. They had successful results in experiments and site constructions. However. there are seldom experimental results or placements in domestic contry. In this paper. We had carried out property tests of fresh and hardened concrete with refer to successful results in experiments and site construction and investigated the physical variation of the antiwashout underwater concrete considering the interaction between antiwashout admixture and other ones. We have decided the optimal mix proportion fb;r antiwashout underwater concrete under standerd sea state.

A Study for Application of Polycarboxilic Type Admixture to Precast High-Strength Concrete Piles (프리캐스트 고강도 콘크리트(PHC) 파일에 조강형 폴리카본산(PC)계 혼화제의 적용에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the performance of Poly-Naphthalene Sulfonate (PNS) type-admixture used widely in South Korea and Polycarboxilic type-admixture(i.e., WF2000) developed in the J company of the domestic, for precast concrete products produced in the factories, was evaluated. With the 20% reduced usage of WF2000 compared to PNS type-admixture, workability was considerably improved due to high water-reducing ratio, accelerating effect of concrete setting and accelerant dispersant action, which the product has, under the high temperature. In addition, the development of initial and long-term strengths of PHC plies was predominant. For WF2000, it is also possible to correspond with the change of original materials and environmental conditions since the control of water-reducing and supporting forces is feasible. Accordingly, it was noted that WF2000 is superior for deterioration of production & workability and bad casting problems in summer and the solution of initial strength reduction problem due to the delay of setting in winter.

  • 최근 들어 염해, 콘크리트의 탄산화, 동결융해 등의 열화요인 의하여 발생할 수 있는 콘크리트의 내구성에 대한 다양한 연구가 진행되고 있는데, 이러한 열화요인은 독립적이 아닌 복합열화의 형태로 작용하게 되는데, 열화현상을 저감하는 한 방편으로 플라이애쉬와 같은 혼화재를 사용하디도 한다. 플라이애쉬는 유동성 증진을 통한 내구성의 향상과, 수화열 저감을 통한 균열감소 및 장기강도 증진 등의 효과가 있으며, 시멘트를 대체함으로써 경제적인 효과를 유발하는 장점도 가지고 있다. 그러나 플라이애쉬는 품질편차가 크고, 경우에 따라서 미연탄소분에 의한 AE제 흡착 등으로 인한 콘크리트의 내구성 및 강도를 저하시킬 수 있는 요소를 내포하고 있으므로 사용 시 주의가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 열화를 저감하고, 내구성을 갖는 고강도 콘크리트를 제조하기 위하여 다양한 배합비의 플라이애쉬 혼입 콘크리트를 실험한 후 그 결과를 분석·고찰함으로써 내구성 콘크리트의 제작 시 혼화재로서의 적용성 및 타당성을 검증하고자 하며, 플라이애쉬를 내구성 재료로 그 활용을 극대화하고, 다양한 플라이애쉬의 사용량과 물/결합재비(W/B)에 대하여 내구성이 높은 고강도 콘크리트 제조방법을 범용화하며, 그 품질을 평가하는 것을 목적으로 한다.

Practical Use of Activated Recycling Water Sludge for Admixture of Concrete (활성도를 부여한 회수수 슬러지의 콘크리트 혼화재 활용)

  • There were some attempt to reuse water with sludge combinative water for ready mixed concrete. But recycling water consist of cement, aggregate and chemical admixture. So it caused deterioration of concrete. The object of this study was to search for recycling method of the recycling water sludge as mineral admixture. This experiment dealed with the effect of $2.5{\sim}12.5$% range of the recycling sludge which can be used for admixture binder(BFS, FA, BFS+FA) on properties of activated recycling water sludge for admixture of concrete. As a result, Although the slump levels reduced and air contents increased as sludge replacement levels increased, it didn't change highly. The compression strength of concrete slightly increased with an increasing amount of recycling water sludge replacement.

Characteristics of Poly(vinyl phenol) Ionomers Neutralized by LiOH and Their Miscibility with Poly(methyl methacrylate) (Li으로 중화된 폴리비닐페놀 이오노머의 특성 및 폴리메틸메타크릴레이트와의 혼화성)

  • Poly(4-vinyl phenol) (PVPh) was neutralized by LiOH and PVPh ionomers (PVPh-Li) with different Li neutralization extents were synthesized. The variation in $T_{g}$ with Li neutralization was determined by DSC and the results show that the $T_{g}$ increases by 3.$8^{\circ}C$ per Li mol%. When comparing this result with the 3.$2^{\circ}C$ per Na mol% reported for poly (styrene-co-hydroxy styrene), the greater value for PVPh-Li may be due to a strong interaction between unneutralized free -OH and -OLi produced. No distinct small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) peak was observed for these PVPh ionomers in bulk. In the 50/50 blend of PVPh-Li with PVPh, the miscibile blend was obtained when the Li neutralization in PVPh-Li was 10 mol%. On the contrary, the 50/50 PVPh-Li/PMMA was immiscible when the Li neutralization was 5 mol%. It can be concluded that, even if the starting blend is miscible owing to hydrogen bonding, the miscibility of blend becomes diminished by introducing small amount of ion groups into one of the constituent polymers and the blend can be immiscible as long as any new strong intermolecular ion-dipole interaction is not generated.

  • As concrete is a material which is subject to wide quality fluctuations by temperature, grip of seasonal feature and maintenance of ambient temperature and humidity to secure the quality required after casting concrete are able to keep away from harmful effects. In case of summer, a high temperature has caused rapid hydration reaction of cement in early age, which has caused to decrease strength by autogenous shrinkage. Therefore we need to consider a countermeasure for decrease in the hydration heat of hot-weather concrete, according to minimize water and cement content and use mineral admixtures In this experimental research, the compressive strength development for replacement ratio of mineral admixtures, curing temperature and methods of concrete was investigated to confirm the effects of mixture design and curing condition on compressive strength of concrete.

Recent Issues in the Design and Construction of High-Performance Shotcrete Lining (고성능 숏크리트 라이닝의 설계 및 시공기술 분석)

  • The development of high-performance shotcrete lining is essential in improving the long-term durability of tunnels and in introducing single-shell tunnelling methods, where shotcrete as well as rockbolts are used as permanent support members. In this paper, new and advanced admixtures to improve shotcrete performance are introduced. In addition, requirements for mechanical properties as well as test items for quality control of shotcrete are summarized. A case study on the application of the pneumatic pin penetration test which can estimate compressive strength of shotcrete more easily and quickly is also illustrated. Previous studies to analyze the behaviors of shotcrete lining by considering its transient hardening and to carry out the sensitivity analysis of the design parameters of shotcrete lining are discussed to give fundamental concepts on rock-support interactions. Representative single-shell tunnelling methods where high-performance shotcrete lining is applied as a permanent support are also introduced.
