  • This study analysed error of measurement and reproducibility for particle size analysis by the laser diffraction spectrometer. Laser diffraction spectrometers has become a very important method of particle size analysis. This measuring method has the advantage of simple operation, good reproducibility and rapid analysis. A feeding and dispersing system have been developed, which allows mass throughputs between 0.1~23 g/min in flowing air and 1.4~35% in flowing liquid. It has been used as a feeder unit for wet and dry particle size analysis from diffraction patterns. Relevant parameters, such as particle shape, particle size, dispersion, flow rate, concentration were analysed for measuring error. And system parameters of instruments for measurement of dynamic processes, eg, measuring time, focal plane, injection pressure drop and dispersion effect by the ultrasonic and mixing of preliminary treatment, were also discussed.

  • This study was attempted to investigate the changes of chemical components by different yeast strains during alcohol fermentation at $12^{\circ}C$. Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Saccharomyces cerevisiae+Schizosaccharomyces pombe, and Schizosaccharomyces pombe were inoculated in the Seibel grape must, respectively. Sch. pombe began to metabolize malic acid after 4 days fermentation actively and utilized approximately 54% of initial malic acid. Ethanol contents of S. cerevisiae, S. cerevisiae+Sch.. pombe and Sch. pombe were 11.5%, 11.2%, and 10.0%, respectively. The fermentability of Sch. pombe was slower than that of S. cerevisiae. The production of sulfite showed a positive linear relationship with the yeast growth (P<0.01). Sensory scores indicated that the wine samples fermented by S. cerevisiae and Sch. pombe were not significantly different in color, odor, after taste and overall acceptability. Especially, the taste of Sch. pombe was significantly better than that of S. cerevisiae (P<0.05).

  • In this study, alkoxysilane-functionalized amphiphilic polymer (AFAP), which have hydrophilic segment and hydrophobic segment functionalized by alkoxysilane group at the same backbone, was synthesized and used as a dispersant and control agent for reaction rate in the preparation of colloidally stable organic-inorganic (O-I) hybrid sols. After reaction with fluorosilane compounds, fluorinated O-I hybrid sols were prepared and coated onto glass substrate to form hydrophobic O-I hybrid coating films through low-temperature curing process. Surface hardness and hydrophobicity of cured coating films were varied with type of solvent and composition of AFAP and fluorinated alkoxysilane compounds. At appropriate solvent and composition of fluorinated alkoxysilane compounds, O-I hybrid coating film having high transparency and surface hardness could be prepared, which could be applicable to cover window of solar cell and displays.

  • In this work, we were investigated the effect of the additive gases on the relationship between bonding structure and mechanical properties of the deposited films when the DLC films were deposited on Si-wafer by the rf-PECVD method with the addition of small amounts of carbon dioxide and nitrogen to the mixture gas of methane and hydrogen. The deposition rate of the films increased as the rf-power increased, while it decreased with increasing the amount of additive gases. Also, as the carbon dioxide gas increased, the hydrogen content in the films decreased but the $sp^3/sp^2$ ratio of the films increased. In case of nitrogen gas, the hydrogen content decreased, however the $sp^3/sp^2$ ratio and nitrogen gas flow rate did not show a specific tendency.

  • The optimal design and combustion analysis of the gas generator for Liquid Rocket Engine (LRE) were performed. A fuel-rich gas generator in open cycle turbopump system was designed for 101on1 in thrust with RP-1/LOx combination. The optimal design was done for maximizing specific impulse of main combustion chamber with constraints of combustion temperature and power matching in turbopump system. Results of optimal design show the dimension of length, diameter, and contraction ratio of gas generator. The configuration of the gas generator and the condition for performance which can maximize the objective function were determined and found to meet the design constraints. Also, the combustion analysis was conducted to evaluate the performance of designed chamber and injector of gas generator. And the effect of the turbulence ring was investigated on the mixing enhancement in the chamber.

  • In this study, a small portable sorting pilot for separation that can be used in dismantling construction site, which is the stage of construction waste generation, was developed, and its separation efficiency was evaluated to increase the actual recycling rate of the construction waste. The pilot was developed as portable sorting pilot for separation of 6 ton capacity that can handle one arm roll box within a $15m^2$ area in consideration of narrow places in the downtown area where a number of dismantling sites are located and various processes performed in the dismantling sites. In order to evaluate the efficiency performance of the developed device, the separation and sorting were carried out ten times with respect to trommel rotational speed RPM 2-3, 4-6 and 7-8. According to the results, the highest efficiency of about 90% was shown at RPM 6-7.

  • If only fixed effects exist in a 4 $\times$ 4 balanced incomplete block design, powers of FR statistic for testing a main effect show the highest level with a few replications. Under the exponential and double exponential distributions, FR statistic shows relatively high powers with big differences as compared with the F statistic. Further in a traditional balanced incomplete block design, powers of FR statistic having a fixed main effect and a random block effect show superior preference for all situations without regard to the effect size of a main effect, the parameter size and the type of population distributions of a block effect. Powers of FR statistic increase in a high speed as replications increase. Overall power preference of FR statistic for testing a main effect is caused by unique characteristic of a balanced incomplete block design having one main and block effect with missing observations, which sensitively responds to small increase of main effect and sample size.

  • Manufacturing conditions of the porous alumina mold were established to overcome various limits of the gypsum mold. For the preparations of the porous alumina mold, an activated charcoal was added to the Al2O3 with the wt% variation and then mixed. The binary slurry was study dispersed based on the examination of the ESA and rheological behaviro. The cylinder type alumina mold was cast in the gyspum mold and characterized by the shrinkage rate at the variable sintering temperature and the resistance against wear. It was proper to make a sintering of the Al2O3 by the surface diffusion which was non-shrinkage sintering mechansim, and intergranular neck growed stronger while sintering was being made. We studied a sintering by three categories; 1) thermodynamic method below 1,000$^{\circ}C$, 2) kinetic method above 1,000$^{\circ}C$ and 3) combined method. In the results of the respective works, combined method was superiro to the others. The prepared Al2O3 mold had relatively high strength, low drying rate, the resistance against the acid or base and good casting behavior.

  • Silicon diosixde thick film using silica optical waveguide cladding was fabricated by Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) method, at a low temperature (32$0^{\circ}C$) and from (SiH$_4$+$N_2$O) gas mixtures. The effects of deposition parameters on properties of SiO$_2$thick films were investigated by variation of $N_2$O/SiH$_4$flow ratio and RF power. As the $N_2$O/SiH$_4$flow ratio decreased, deposition rate increased from 2.9${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/h to maximum 10.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/h. As the RF power increased from 60 W to 120 W, deposition rate increased (5.2~6.7 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/h) and refractive index approached at thermally grown silicon dioxide (n=1.46).

  • We investigated stabilities of blue pigment extracted from Gardenia jasminoides at various conditions to check its applicability for beverages. Gardenia blue pigment with maximum absorption at 587 nm was obtained from the reaction of glycine and genipin (aglycone of geniposide). The blue pigment was found to be relatively unstable at acidic pH but very stable at alkaline conditions with half-life values of 102 days and 126 days at PH 9.0 and PH 11.0, respectively. The pigment also showed high thermal stability with half-life value of 55, 18, and 2 days at 50, 70, and 9$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The addition of inorganic ions, sugars, and amino acids to model beverage containing this blue pigment increased retention rate at room temperature while addition of vitamin C decreased the stability. The sensory evaluation of the model beverage showed that inorganic ions and amino acids increased overall acceptability, indicating that the blue pigments of Gardenia jasminoides can be used as a natural colorant for leverage.
