  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the gender and sibling composition differences in psychological well-being, and to analyze the effects of family and school environment on psychological well-being among Chinese adolescents. Data from 453 students of middle school were used for final analysis. This study found that only child adolescents showed higher levels of self-esteem and low levels of depression than adolescents with sibling. Regression analysis revealed that self-esteem were influenced by relations with teachers, peer relations and marital conflict among male only child adolescents and female adolescents with sibling. Self-esteem of female only child adolescents was affected by parenting behavior and relations with teachers, and self-esteem of male adolescents with sibling was affected by relations with teachers. Relations with teachers and parenting behavior had impact on depression of Chinese adolescents, but depression was not influenced by peer relations.

  • The purpose of this study is to review Korean literature concerning sibling relationships during the last three decades and investigate facts and trends, research issues, and pragmatic and policy issues related to sibling relationship development. Most of the past research has been concerned with the effects of sibling status/structure variables on siblings' individual differences in intellectual, social and personality characteristics. In recent years, however, considerable attention has been focused on the interpersonal relationships between siblings and the factors influencing such relationships. More specifically, sibling relationships and adjustment of siblings of children with disabilities begin to draw attention of researchers and practitioners. This review consists mainly of two parts : one on siblings of children with no disabilities and the other on siblings with one disabled child.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of family resilience on the positive attitudes toward a children with disabilities of non-disabled siblings. For this purpose, a survey data was collected from 110 siblings with disabled children. The general characteristics of the parent questionnaire, and the general characteristics of a child with a disability, non-disability sibling's general characteristics, be receptive attitude, consisted of family resilience, and the data were analyzed by frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t test, ANOVA and regression analysis by SPSS 18.0. Structural equation was used for black AMOS18. The results of the measurement analysis were summarized as follows: 1. family resilience showed positive correlation with positive attitudes toward a children with disabilities of non-disabled siblings. 2. as a result of regression analysis for find out influence of family resilience on the positive attitude of non-disabled siblings, family resilience was statistically significant influence factors, which 50%, 50% explanatory power. In conclusion, these results reinforce the important of considering family context as a contributor to the positive attitudes toward a children with disabilities of non-disabled siblings, so it could be suggested that family resilience needs to be improve.

  • This study examined the effects of parenting behaviors, marital conflict and sibling relations on aggression with a sample of 301 6th graders (161 boys and 140 girls) living in P city. The subjects answered questionnaires regarding parenting behaviors, including sub-scales of physical punishment and psychological control, marital conflict, and sibling relations. Aggression was rated by peers. The results indicated that boys showed higher overt aggression than girls; children were aggressive when parents frequently used physical punishment and psychological control; the more children were exposed to marital conflict, the more aggressive they were, with particularly high correlations for girls; and the less positive and the more negative the sibling relations, the higher the aggression shown by children. Among the variables, parent's behaviors were the most highly correlated with aggression in both boys and girls.

  • This research aims to analyze the gender, sibling, and characteristics of figures who created the imaginary friends among 30 picture books published in Korea. At first, as a result of the research, a total of 35 figures of the 30 books had imaginary friends, of which 24 figures were women and 11 were men, with women more than twice as many as men. Secondly, in many cases, the only child in picture books had the imaginary companion, but in case of the figures who have brothers or sisters, The imaginary companion visited them more frequently to different gender rather than to same gender. Looking at the frequency of appearance of imaginary companion, the eldest, younger brother, and no appearance appeared in order. Third, as a result of examining the personality of figures who created the imaginary companion, their extroversion or introversion has no meaningful correlation each other. These results are meaningful as reference data for understanding children with imaginary friends in reality as picture books reflect the reality of children with imaginary friends and show various situations of infant with imaginary friends in a balanced manner.

  • SNOMED CT is the most widely used comprehensive clinical terminology system worldwide. However, due to the vastness of the terminology and the continuous growth of medical knowledge, the system involve quality issues such as structural inaccuracies and inconsistencies, including missing concepts or relationships and hierarchical errors. In this paper, we propose a method to enhance the consistency of the system by detecting potentially missing concepts by utilizing attributes linked to concepts. The proposed method analyzes the characteristics of the attribute relationships of concepts, extracts sibling concepts that share the same characteristics, and then evaluates whether the parent concepts reflect these characteristics to detect potentially missing concepts. By applying this method to the March 2023 SNOMED CT international release, we identified 564 instances where parent concepts did not reflect the common attributes of their sibling concepts, and a total of 384 potentially missing concepts were detected, including cases involving multiple parent concepts.

  • The ordinary least squares regression method of Haseman and Elston(1972) is most widely used in genetic linkage studies for continuous traits of sib pairs. Kruglyak and Lander(1995) suggested a statistic which appears to be a nonparametric counterpart to the Haseman and Elston(1972)'s regression method, but in fact these two methods are quite different. In this paper the relationships between these two methods are described and will be compared by simulation studies. One of the characteristics of the sib-pair linkage study is that the explanatory variable has only three different values and thus dependent variable is heavily replicated in each value of the explanatory variable. We propose a weighted least squares regression method which is more appropriate to this situation and the efficiency of the weighted regression in genetic linkage study was explored with normal and non-normal simulated continuous traits data. Simulation studies demonstrated that the weighted regression is more powerful than other tests.
