In this study, 22 clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae including Citrobacterfreundii (6 strains), Enterobacter cloacae (5 strains), Enterobacter aerogenes (3 strains), Serratia marcescens (7 strains) and Pantoea spp. (1 strain) were investigated for the biofilm forming ability and biosynthesis of curli and cellulose. Biofilm forming ability was the highest among the isolates of E. cloacae and the lowest among the isolates of E. aerogenes. The expression of the biofilm-forming extracellular matrix components, cellulose and curli fimbriae, was examined by Congo-red (CR) staining and calcofluor staining methods. PCR screening for the presence of curli gene (csgA) revealed that 4 strains of E. cloacae and 1 strain of C. freundii carried the csgA, showing a good correlation between the phenotypic detection of curli fimbriae by CR staining method and the genotypic detection of curli gene by PCR in E. cloacae.

In our previous work, 3-dimensional hydrodynamic focusing microfluidic device (3D-HFMD) has been developed with the help of locally increased aspect ratio of thickness to width without any horizontal separation wall. In this study, we have investigated 3-dimensional hydrodynamic focusing behaviors inside the 3D-HFMD according to the various geometric and flow conditions. The parametric study has been extensively carried out for the effects of geometric and flow conditions on 3-dimensional hydrodynamic focusing with both 3D-HFMD and previous microfluidic device design based on three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The CFD simulations suggested the proper design window of channel geometry and flow conditions.

This study aims to understand the mode characteristics of a droplet under a periodic forced vibration. To predict the resonance frequency of a droplet, theoretical and experimental approaches were employed. A high-speed camera was used to capture the various deformation characteristics of a droplet-mode shape, detachment, separated secondary droplet, and skewed deformation. The comparison between the theoretical and the experimental approaches shows a ~10% discrepancy in the prediction of the resonance frequency, which appears to be caused by the effect of contact line friction, nonlinear wall adhesion, and experimental uncertainty. Owing to contact-line pinning and smaller amplitude, the droplet shape becomes symmetric and the size of each lobe at the resonance frequency exceeds that at the neighbor, which is out of resonance.

In this study, we investigated the effect of the indenter geometry on the crack characteristics by indentation cracking test and FEA. We conducted various cohesive finite element simulations based on the findings of Lee et al. (2012), who examined the effect of cohesive model parameters on crack size and formulated conditions for crack initiation and propagation. First, we verified the FE model through comparisons with experimental results that were obtained from Berkovich and Vickers indentations. We observed whether nonsymmetrical cracks formed beneath the surface during Berkovich indentation via FEA. Finally, we examined the relation between the crack size and the number of cracks. Based on this relation and the effect of the indenter angle on the crack size, we can predict from the crack size obtained with an indenter of one shape (such as Berkovich or Vickers) the crack size for an indenter of different shape.
The face shape extracted by the depth values has different appearance as the most important facial feature information and the face images decomposed into frequency subband are signified personal features in detail. In this paper, we develop a method for recognizing the range face images by combining the multiple frequency domains for each depth image and depth fusion using fuzzy integral. For the proposed approach, the first step tries to find the nose tip that has a protrusion shape on the face from the extracted face area. It is used as the reference point to normalize for orientated facial pose and extract multiple areas by the depth threshold values. In the second step, we adopt as features for the authentication problem the wavelet coefficient extracted from some wavelet subband to use feature information. The third step of approach concerns the application of eigenface and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) method to reduce the dimension and classify. In the last step, the aggregation of the individual classifiers using the fuzzy integral is explained for extracted coefficient at each resolution level. In the experimental results, using the depth threshold value 60 (DT60) show the highest recognition rate among the regions, and the depth fusion method achieves 98.6% recognition rate, incase of fuzzy integral.

Recently, various stakeholder are interested in microplastic to cause pollution of the marine's ecosystem and effort to conduct study of product's life cycle to reduce pollution of marine's ecosystem. The micorplastic refer to materials of the nano- to micro- sized units and it can be classified into primary and secondary. The primary microplastic mean the manufactured for use in the specific field such as the microbead of the cosmetic or cleanser. also, secondary mean the unintentionally generated during use of the product such as the textile crumb by the doing the laundry. Tire and Road Wear Particles(TRWPs) are also defined as secondary microplastic. Typically, TRWPs are created by friction between the tread compound's rubber of the tire and the surface of the road du ring the driving cars. Most of the generated TRWPs exist on the roadside and some of them were carried to marine by the rainwater. In this study, we perform the quantitative analysis of the TRWPs existed in fine dust at the roadside. So, we collected the dust from the roadside in Chungcheongnam-do's C site with a movement of 1,300 cars per the hour. The collected samples were separated according to size and density. And shape analysis was performed using the Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM). We were possible to discover a lot of TRWPs at the fine dust of the 100 ± 20 ㎛. And we analysis it u sing the Thermo Gravimetric Analysis(TGA) and Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer(GC/MS) for the quantitative components from the tire. As a result, it was confirmed that TRWPs generated from the roadside fine dust were included the 0.21 %, and the tire and road components in the generated TRWPs consisted of the 3:7 ratio.

One of the major advantages of using engineering plastics is ease of part assembly through a locking mechanism known as a snap fit. The typical snap fit involves a short cantilever beam with a projection at the free end. which slides over a one way ramp on the mating part to lock in place. The tightness of the mechanism is determined by the lateral interference of the two sliding members If too small they become loose and can't hold together. while if too large. excessive force can be generated. causing failure of the cantilever beam during the assembly operation. Therefore. the accurate determination of the force-deflection relationship for cantilever beams is a key element in snap fit design. And also. the process of injection molding should be considered when cantilever beam is designed. But it is not easy for novice designers to design them appropriately because of the profound knowledge related to injection molding. In this paper. an intelligent design program has been developed and proposed to improve a conventional empirical design method.

The modular robots are a kind of system that was developed to overcome the limitation of the movement for the mobile robot with wheels or legs. In legs type mobile robot case, they are limited for velocity and balance during moving at the uneven terrain. In wheeled mobile robot case, they are also limited to overcome dump, stair and so on. The modular robots can overcome moving limitation because of their transforming ability. However, they are researched not only driving mechanism but also combination mechanism. In this paper we proposed four kinds of unique structure for the combination and separation and also its algorithm. The effectiveness of the structure is verified with building the real structure and taking experiments to the designed modular robot
