This paper addresses the vibration mode shape measurement technique utilizing a Continuous Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer (CSLDV). The continuous scanning capability is added to the conventional discrete Laser Doppler Vibrometer by reflecting the laser beams on the surface of the object using two oscillating mirrors. The bow scanning resulted from the proposed scanning method is eliminated by feedback control. The velocity output signal from the CSLDV is modulated to give the spatial velocity distribution in terms of coefficients which are obtained from the Fast Fourier Transformation of the time dependent velocity signal. Using the Chebyshev series form, the analysis of the vibration mode shape techniques for straight Bine scanning and 2 dimensional scanning are presented and discussed. The performance of the proposed SLDV is presented using the experimental results of the vibration mode shape of a plate

This study aimed to understand the mode characteristics of a droplet subject to periodic forced vibration and the detachment of a droplet placed on a plate surface. An surface was coated with Teflon to clearly observe the behavior of a droplet. The contact angle between the droplet and surface and the hysteresis were found to be approximately $115^{\circ}C$ and within $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. The coating process was performed in a clean room that had an environment with a low level of contaminants and impurities such as air dust, detergents, and particles. To predict the resonance frequency of a droplet, theoretical and experimental approaches were applied. Two high-speed cameras were configured to acquire side and top views and thus capture different characteristics of a droplet: the mode shape, the detachment, the separated secondary droplet, and the waggling motion. A comparison of the theoretical and experimental results shows no more than 18 discrepancies when predicting the resonance frequency. These differences seem to be caused by contact line friction, nonlinear wall adhesion, and the uncertainty of the experiment. For lower energy inputs, the contact line of the droplet was pinned and the oscillation pattern was axisymmetric. However, the contact line of the droplet was de-pinned as the oscillation became more vigorous with increased energy input. The size of each lobe at the resonance frequency is somewhat larger than that at the neighboring frequency. A droplet in mode 2, one of the primary mode frequencies, exhibits vertical periodic movement as well as detachment and secondary ejection from the main droplet.

This study aims to understand the internal flow and the evaporation characteristics of a deionized water droplet subjected to vertical forced vibrations. To predict and evaluate its resonance frequency, the theories of Lamb, Strani, and Sabetta have been applied. To visualize the precise mode, shape, and internal flow inside a droplet, the experiment utilizes a combination of a high-speed camera, macro lens, and continuous laser. As a result, a water droplet on a hydrophobic surface has its typical shape at each mode, and complicated vortices are observed inside the droplet. In particular, large symmetrical flow streams are generated along the vertical axis at each mode, with a large circulating movement from the bottom to the top and then to the triple contact line along the droplet surface. In addition, a bifurcation-shaped flow pattern is formed at modes 2 and 4, whereas a large ellipsoid-shape flow pattern forms at modes 6 and 8. Mode 4 has the fastest internal flow speed and evaporation rate, followed by modes 8 then 6, with 2 having the slowest of these properties. Each mode has the fastest evaporation rate amongst its neighboring frequencies. Finally, the droplet evaporation under vertical vibration would lead to more rapid evaporation, particularly for mode 4.
This paper presents damage detection and estimation of stiffness parameter on a concrete scale model and a real structure of concrete pontoon using dynamic properties such as mode shapes and natural frequencies. In case of damage detection, dynamic impact test on a concrete scale model is accomplished to extract mode shapes and the practicality is verified by utilizing a damage detection technique. And the stiffness parameter of a real structure of concrete pontoon was estimated via system identification technique using the natural frequencies of the structure. The results indicate that the damaged elements of the scale model are found exactly using damage detection technique and the effective stiffness property of the real structure of concrete pontoon can be estimated by system identification technique.
A simple but precise method of calculating the natural vibration frequencies of composite laminated plates with all-simple support and under axial loadings is presented herein. This method uses deflection influence surfaces, which can be obtained by any method for vibration analysis and member due to the inertia force under resonance condition. Beginning with an initially guessed mode shape, the exact mode shape is obtained by the process similar to iteration. In this paper, equations are given for the case of special orthotropic laminates. The same equations, however, can be used for any laminate as long as ${B_1_6}$, ${B_2_6}$, ${D_1_6}$, and ${D_2_6}$ are negligible as the number of plies increases. Some laminates that possess such properties are presented in the paper.
An Inverse modal perturbation method was applied to estimate the assessments of the damages at the large-scaled marine structure, such as pier or dolphin, from the structural dynamic natural frequencies and mode shape. Vibrations of structural stiffness, natural frequencies and mode shapes from the eigenvalue analysis lead to the modal peturbation equations, which were considered with a second order term. This paper estimates the assessments of the damages for the structure with the decreased stiffness and shows the convergence of perturbation equation.

This study aims to understand the mode characteristics of a droplet under a periodic forced vibration. To predict the resonance frequency of a droplet, theoretical and experimental approaches were employed. A high-speed camera was used to capture the various deformation characteristics of a droplet-mode shape, detachment, separated secondary droplet, and skewed deformation. The comparison between the theoretical and the experimental approaches shows a ~10% discrepancy in the prediction of the resonance frequency, which appears to be caused by the effect of contact line friction, nonlinear wall adhesion, and experimental uncertainty. Owing to contact-line pinning and smaller amplitude, the droplet shape becomes symmetric and the size of each lobe at the resonance frequency exceeds that at the neighbor, which is out of resonance.
The paper describes a theoretical study on the flexural vibration of an elastic flat bar with periodically nonuniform material properties. The approximate solution of the natura1 frequency and mode shape has been obtained using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidify and mass density. The numerical solution obtained by using the finite element method verifies the trend of the approximate solution. It appears that distributed vibrations exist in the low modes, and this approach can be extended to the vibration analysis of the p1ate in the flat panel speaker.

In this paper, a method for the estimation of structural displacements using structure's mode shapes and accelerations is suggested to reduce the disadvantages of acceleration time integration method. Acceleration time integration method requires accurate information on initial conditions, and errors caused by noise can be accumulated during time integration. To avoid these problems, the method for the estimation of structural displacements based on mode superposition method is developed and two vibration experiments for cantilever beam are conducted to verify this method. Static displacements and dynamic displacements of beam structure are estimated using measured accelerations from experiments and mode shapes of cantilever beam, and they are compared with measured displacements using laser displacement sensor. From these results, the validity and usefulness of this method are verified.
