Effects on Aerodynamic Drag Reduction of a Passenger Car by Rear Body Shape Modifications (승용차의 후면 형상 변형이 공기저항 감소에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper suggests possible rear body shape modifications of a passenger car for the improvement of aerodynamic performance, based on the CFD analysis results. YF SONATA, a passenger car of Hyundai Motors Company, plays a major role as the baseline car in this research. Representatively, three parts(trunk rear edge, side rear edge and rear undercover) are modified in a small range in order for the total outer shapes not to be changed enough so that the modified car is not considered different, compared with the baseline. Specifically, using computational fluid dynamics, aerodynamic drag reduction is accomplished maximally about 11% in this research. Finally, it is proved that although the range of changes of the rear body shapes of a passenger car is very strictly confined, by changing a small range of rear body shapes alone the enhancement of aerodynamic performance of a passenger car can be significantly accomplished.

  • This paper gives new conceptual descriptions of drag reduction mechanism owing to rotating wheel and moving ground condition when dealing with automotive aerodynamics. Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), flow simulation of three dimensional automobile configuration made by Vehicle Modeling Function (VMF) is performed and the influence of wheel arch, wheels, rotating wheel & moving ground condition to the automotive aerodynamic performance is analyzed. Finally, it is shown that rotating wheel & moving ground condition decreases automotive aerodynamic drag owing to the reduction of the induced drag led by the decrease of COANDA flow intensity of the rear trunk flow.

Thermal conductivity of acrylic composite films containing graphite and carbon nanotube (흑연과 탄소나노튜브를 함유한 아크릴 복합체 박막의 열전도도)

  • 아크릴계 수지(resin)에 인조 흑연과 탄소나노튜브(carbon nanotube)를 1:1 비율로 혼합한 충전제(filler)와 용제(solvent) 및 기타 첨가제(additives)를 혼합하여 방열도료를 제조하여 수직방향 열전도도를 상온에서 평가하였다. 충전제의 함량을 1, 2, 5 중량 %로 변화시키며 원료들을 준비하여 교반기로 혼합한 뒤 3단 롤 밀(three roll mill)로 분산공정을 진행하여 3 종류의 도료를 제조하였다. 제조한 도료를 가로 11 mm, 세로 11 mm, 두께 0.4 mm의 Al 5052 알루미늄 기판에 스프레이 코팅 방식으로 도포한 후 $150^{\circ}C$에서 30분 동안 열경화 건조 과정을 거쳐 샘플을 제작하였다. 측정 시료의 형상은 대략적으로 Fig. 1과 같다. 열전도도는 식 $k={\alpha}{\cdot}C_p{\cdot}{\rho}$를 사용해서 계산된다. 여기서 k는 열전도도($W/m{\cdot}K$), ${\alpha}$는 열확산계수($mm^2/s$), $C_p$는 비열($J/kg{\cdot}K$), ${\rho}$는 밀도($g/cm^3$)를 나타낸다. 열확산계수는 독일 NETZSCH 사의 Laser Flash Analysis 장비(모델명 LFA 457)를 사용하여 측정하였는데, 기판 뒤쪽에서 레이저를 조사하고 도료층 전면에서 적외선 온도센서를 통해 시간에 따른 온도 상승곡선을 구한 후, 두 물체의 계면에서의 접촉 열저항(contact thermal resistance)을 감안하여 장비에 내장되어 있는 소프트웨어로 열확산계수가 계산된다. 비열은 같은 회사의 DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimetry) 200 F3 장비를 사용해 측정했으며, 밀도는 부피와 질량을 측정한 값을 이용하여 계산하였다. 도료를 도포하지 않은 bare Al plate에 대해서는 쉽게 열확산계수, 비열, 밀도를 측정하여 열전도도를 구할 수 있다. 도료가 코팅된 샘플에 대해서는 도료층을 일부 떼어내 비열을 측정하고, 밀도를 구한 후, 도료층의 열전도도가 2-layer 법으로 장비 내장 소프트웨어로 계산된다, 이때 Al 기판의 열확산계수, 비열, 밀도는 미리 측정한 bare Al plate의 값을 적용하였다. 실험 결과를 Table 1에 정리하였다. 흑연과 탄소나노튜브를 혼합한 충전제를 함유한 아크릴 복합체 박막에서 측정된 열전도도는 보통 고분자 재료의 열전도도 값의 상한 영역에 육박하는 값이며, 충전제 함량이 증가할수록 열전도도가 증가하는 경향을 보이고 있다.

An Experimental Study of Improving Fire Performance with Steel-fibers for Internally Anchored Square Composite Columns (내화성능 개선을 위한 강섬유 보강 내부 앵커형 각형강관 합성기둥의 실험연구)

  • This study focuses on mixing steel fiber in the concrete to improve the ductility and toughness of the columns. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the load capacity and deformation capacity associated with the amount of steel fiber and loading condition and to analyze the interplay between the steel fiber reinforced concrete and the welding built-up square tube in terms of structure and fire resistance performance. Reinforcement of concrete with steel fiber(Vf=0.375%), when cross-section shape and boundary condition (load ratio) remained unchanged, improved fire resistance performance by 1.1~1.3 times. It is deemed that the area resisting thermal load increased and fire resistance performance was improved since the concrete reinforced with steel fiber restrained cracking. In addition, the fact that the cross-sections of the concrete were barely damaged indicates that load share capacity was greatly improved.

  • 고온 초전도(HTS) 변압기는 절연수명의 손실 없이 과부하 용량의 증가와 효율의 향상이 가능하여 기존의 변압기와는 달리 구조물의 소형화로 공간 배치가 용이하고 환경 친화적 이어서 전력시스템 운용 전반에 걸쳐 많은 이점을 제공한다. 하지만, 이러한 이점에도 불구하고 AC전압이 인가되었을 때, 교류손실에 의한 심각한 효율의 감소는 불가피하다. 따라서, HTS 변압기뿐만 아니라 고온초전도전력기기들에 대한 DC전압의 적용은 초전도상에서 전기적 저항이 거의 0이라는 큰 이점을 가지고 있기 때문에 초전도 전력기기 시스템에서 최선의 선택으로 여기어지고 있다. 그러므로 DC고온초전도 전력기기들을 개발하기 위해서는 극저온상에서의 DC 절연 특성과 같은 기초연구들이 선행 되어야 한다. 그러나, 지금까지 이 분야에 대한 연구가 많이 부족한 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 현재 초전도 전력기기의 대표적인 절연 매질인 Kraft, Kapton(Polymide)와 Nomax(Type 410)을 가지고 권선대 권선의 형상을 모의하여 DC와 AC의 절연파괴 특성의 차이점을 분석하였다. 실험의 결과로부터, 극저온상에서 각각의 절연매질에 따른 DC와 AC의 절연파괴 특성을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Inelastic nonlinear behavior of a hyperbolic cooling tower under wind loading is studied using a finite element program developed on a Cray Y-MP. Convergence studies for the elastic and inelastic analyses are performed using three mesh models. It is shown that the mesh convergence plays an important role in accurately predicting the inelastic behavior of a cooling tower. Even though the cooling tower resists the applied forces through membrane stresses, it is found that the bending stresses play an important role in the failure and behavior of the cooling tower. The present analysis gives a shape factor of 1.48, which indicates a significant redistribution of meridional stresses. It is further evidenced by the distribution of meridional reinforcement yielding which reaches up to $30^{\circ}$ from the windward meridian. The present practice of using elastic analysis for calculating the design stresses appears to be at least safe and conservative. A more comprehensive study should lead to conclusions that would allow use of a higher-than-one shape factor, thus requiring less meridional reinforcement than the present design method does.

  • We study the structural and functional characteristics of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures that are grown on carbon nanotube (CNT) constructs via step-wise chemical vapor deposition (CVD). First, we optimize the CVD process to directly grow ZnO nanostructures on CNTs by controlling the growth temperature below $600^{\circ}C$, where CNTs can be sustained in a ZnO-growing oxidative atmosphere. We then investigate how the morphology and areal density of ZnO nanostructures evolve depending on process parameters, such as pressure, temperature, and gas feeding composition, while focusing on the effect of underlying CNT topology on ZnO nucleation and growth. Because various types of ZnO nanostructures, including nanowires, nanorods, nanoplates, and polycrystalline nanocrystals, can be conformally formed on highly conductive CNT platforms, this electrically addressable three-dimensional hybrid nanoarchitecture may better meet a wide range of nanoelectronic application-specific needs.

Wireless Telemetry of an Oscillating Flow using Mesoscale Flexible Cantilever Sensor (메소스케일 유연 외팔보 센서를 이용한 진동유동의 무선 계측)

  • This paper describes a flexible wireless telemetering system using a mesoscale cantilever sensor, which is microfabricated with a patterned thin Ni-Cu foil on a resin substrate. The dynamic validation of the sensor has been conducted in a flow. The wireless telemetry is used to obtain data regarding the oscillating flows. It is shown that the sensor is nearly independent of the environmental temperature and is suitable for application to primary healthcare and diagnostic devices. It can be easily integrated with other modules for measuring physiological parameters, e.g., blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and heart rate, to increase the convenience and reliability of diagnosis. The precision and reliability of the sensor are also dependent on the design of the analog front-end and noise reduction techniques. It is shown that the present system's minimum interval between packet transmissions is ~16 ms.

  • In Korea, the effective utilization of wod structure is encour aged to preserve natural resources and the global environment.ote demand for wod. The efective combination of structural la minated timber and other materials is expected to extend the potential of building structures. This research examines the moment resis tance-type jointing method using structural laminated timber and H-section stel aiming at development of the two-direction frame for lar ge 9 mm and 12 mm) of the H section. Therefore, we conducted the experiment with bending test of the joints to investigate the s tifnes, strength, strain distributions of laminated timber an d of the flange of the H section, and failure paterns. As shown in the results, t he joints with a flange thicknes of 9 mm and 12 m have superi or strength with a flange thicknes of 9 mm and 12 mm were very large, whic h confirmed the high level of energy absorption of such structure s.

Prediction of Parabolic Antenna Satellite Drag Force in Low Earth Orbit using Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Method (직접모사법을 이용한 지구 저궤도 파라볼릭 안테나 탑재 위성의 항력 예측)

  • Consumption of the fuel on the satellite operating in low earth orbit, is increased due to the air resistance and the amount of increase makes the satellite lifetime decrease or the satellite mass risen. Therefore the prediction of drag force of the satellite is important. In the paper, drag force and drag coefficient analysis of the parabolic antenna satellite in low earth orbit using direct simulation monte carlo method (DSMC) is conducted according to the mission altitude and angle of attack. To verify the DSMC simulated rarefied air movement, Starshine satellite drag coefficient according to the altitude and gas-surface interaction are compared with the flight data. Finally, from the analysis results, it leads to appropriate satellite drag coefficient for orbit lifetime calculation.
