  • In this study, we compared the stability of the pillars by using room and pillar mining method with the four models with different stiffness and pillar overlap ratio. The experimental models consist of two plaster models (overlap ratio 0%, 100%) and two cement models(overlap ratio 0%, 100%). The soft and hard rocks are modeled by plaster and cement models respectively. In these experiments, the model materials with strength values reflecting the calculated scaled factors not been used, so it is not a true scaled model test that reproduces in situ state in the laboratory. Experimental results show that the different overlap ratio pillars are one of the factors that can affect the stability of the mine.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of end paper adsorbed with mask pack active ingredients on hair during permanent wave treatment. Permanent wave was performed with purchasing mask packs containing green tangerine, collagen, and Houttuynia cordate active ingredients among commercially available mask packs and adsorbing them to the end paper. As experimental methods, hair thickness, hair moisturizing power, tensile strength, hair epidermis observation using SEM, and hair constituent element analysis using EDS were performed. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the experimental group treated with Houttuynia cordate active ingredient on the end paper had a hair protection effect as a result of hair thickness, tensile strength, hair epidermis observation, and hair component analysis. In addition, it was confirmed that the experimental group treated with green tangerine active ingredient on the end paper contained a relatively large amount of moisture in the hair moisturizing power test result. It is hoped that the development and research of various materials and tools will proceed so that basic cosmetic products containing active ingredients can be developed and used as hair cosmetics, and applied during chemical treatment in the industrial field.

  • This study was carried out to investigate and analyse the influence of maximum size of coarse aggregate and quality control of aggregate on the properties of shotcrete through the laboratory and field test. From the results of the test, as the maximum size of coarse aggregate decreased from 13 mm to 8 mm, plasticity property declined and compressive strength and dynamic modulus of elasticity of hardened concrete increased remarkably, so it was found that the aggregate size 8 mm was superior to 13, 10 mm in fluidity, constructability and durability. Therefore, it was advisable for well maximum size of coarse aggregate to apply to the 8mm aggregates through the Ready-mixed Method for quality control and minimum segregation.

  • The supply of high quality filling materials for pavement base course or reclamation is getting harder. So, there is an attempt to use soft mudstones as an earth filling material in Pohang area. But the engineering properties of the soil deposit placed with soft mudstones have not been clearly evaluated yet. We investigated the water absorption and softening, the slaking behavior and the geological mechanism in order to obtain an effective way of estimating the magnitude of land subsidence and the reduction of soil strength. The applicability of soft mudstones is examined by a variety of laboratory tests and pilot-scale field tests. In addition, it is necessary to consider the environmental characteristics of soft mudstones as a reclaiming material, Consequently, the results from the current study can be used to prevent any construction defects due to the careless use of soft mudstones for the pavement base course or reclamation.

  • The general soil nailing method, which is currently used domestically and internationally to stabilize the slopes of sandy slopes, is to form a kind of gravity-type retaining wall by drilling the ground and grouting it with a single steel bar. This method can reduce construction costs, ease of construction, relative strength and displacement, and is highly efficient. The difference between grouting and rebar adhesion to the yield pullout force and the difference between the amount of deformation in relation to the same pullout resistance was analyzed through field tests to identify engineering excellence, and in terms of construction cost, the reduction effect was evaluated by analyzing the difference in the number of drillings and the impact on the overall construction cost, such as material cost, when the same strength constant is applied to the ground with the same resistance.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop an amended clay liner by utilizing waste lime produced as a by-product in chemical industries. Waste lime contains various kinds of organics which affect the permeability, compactability, and unconfined compressive strengths of soil. The geotechnical engineering properties of waste were improved by adding other materials so that they might meet the EPA requirement of clay liner. Granite weathered soil, which is abundant in Korea and can be obtained easily in the field. was used as a primary additive to improve geotechnical engineering properties of waste lime. Various kinds of laboratory tests related to geotecnnical engineering properties, required to evaluate the design criteria for the clay liner in the solid waste landfill. were carried out by changing miRing ratio of waste lime with additive. According to the laboratory test results, in order to obtain the appropriate amended clay liner. the effective miffing ratio of waste lime in granite weathered soil was proved to be about 20~30%.

  • The development of high-performance shotcrete lining is essential in improving the long-term durability of tunnels and in introducing single-shell tunnelling methods, where shotcrete as well as rockbolts are used as permanent support members. In this paper, new and advanced admixtures to improve shotcrete performance are introduced. In addition, requirements for mechanical properties as well as test items for quality control of shotcrete are summarized. A case study on the application of the pneumatic pin penetration test which can estimate compressive strength of shotcrete more easily and quickly is also illustrated. Previous studies to analyze the behaviors of shotcrete lining by considering its transient hardening and to carry out the sensitivity analysis of the design parameters of shotcrete lining are discussed to give fundamental concepts on rock-support interactions. Representative single-shell tunnelling methods where high-performance shotcrete lining is applied as a permanent support are also introduced.

  • It is useful to use NDE methods to assess the mechanical properties of materials since destructive methods are time-consuming and usually require cutting of sample from the material/component. In the present research, ultrasonic characteristics have been utilized to evaluate changes of mechanical properties due to heat treatment temperature and condition. The attenuation coefficient of ultrasonic wave increased as the heat treatment temperature because the grain size increased in size as the temperature. The attenuation coefficient decreased as the heat treatment has been progressed (quenched, tempered, PWHT). In the case of ultrasonic velocity measurement, velocity difference between quenched and tempered/PWHT was 40 m/s. There was a good relationship between the attenuation coefficient and the toughness. The relationship can be used for the nondestructive evaluation of the forged reactor vessels. Moreover, the method may be effectively used in the field application.

  • Durability problems may arise in the concrete, which is one of the major construction materials, used in the construction field. Bridge piers and foundation piles are usually made with concrete and they are exposed to the moisture and hence the durability of the concrete reduced significantly due to oxidization of re-bar and icing of concrete. To mitigate such problems, FRP tube has been developed and the concrete filled FRP tube (CFFT) has been investigated to find the confinement effect which is provided additionally. It was reported that if the concrete is wrapped with FRP, strength and chemical resistance are improved significantly. In order to apply such a member in the construction field, structural behavior and applicable design guideline or design criteria must be thoroughly investigated. In the experimental investigation, the results are compared with the previous research results and the relationship which can predict the ultimate strength and strain is suggested. In addition, some comments found at the compression tests are given briefly.

  • KS F 2782 (for shotcrete accelerators) standard cross-section of tunnel construction or repair is a reinforcement used in the field of shotcrete accelerators as a criterion in assessing shotcrete performance. Thus, KS F 2782 by standard accelerator will determine the nature of the product of concrete accelerators that will be used to record variations in the product roles, through determination of the quality of the experimental method to identify only the quality of the many variables that exist. This evaluation standard has so far distinguished accelerator products in indoor experiments that do not meet quality standards but were mostly for an on-site accelerator mixed with the shotcrete after being quite satisfied with the level of quality in a certain number of products. This observation is derived from the results of an indoor experiment considered to verify whether the site is suitable for indoor experiments, and whether its actual location in the city is relevant to the accelerator quality, to find a way to test if it fits. This study centers on the material conditions of the shotcrete accelerator and a variety of experimental results, and used the Gilmore needle to compare the compressive strength and KS F 2782 specification of the accelerator as a means to ensure product quality conformity analysis and for further research experiments. In conclusion, a portion of KS F 2782 standard that fixes the problems that can be resolved from the ground up as a whole is not a review for the domestic reality. As an indoor experiment to ensure uniformity in the field when applied in a sufficient correlation, complement must be in place.
