Issues of the Socio-historical Interpretation in Art - Interpretation of inter-dependency as Imputation and Circle - (예술에서 사회.역사적 해석의 문제 -귀속(歸屬)과 순환(循環)의 상호의존적 해석-)

  • Amongst various methods of interpreting art, a understanding of the intention of artistic creation has been traditionally considered the most essential. Hermeneutics is the typical way of approaching it. With a focus on interpretation and understanding of the object, Hermeneutics delves into methodological techniques of interpretation and understanding of the existence of art from ancient Greece to the present. Nevertheless, from the Hermeneutic viewpoint, art as the object of interpretation is not free from social conditions and tradition; for this reason, interpretation of art basically has a socio-historical aspect. The starting point of this thesis is to examine the methods of understanding art from the socio-historical viewpoint. For this purpose, I study the theory of Hermeneutics as a basic of socio-historical interpretation of art, calling for methodology I need to justify inter-dependency of the epistemological viewpoint aid the ontological viewpoint in interpretation of art. Here, I suggest 'imputation(Zurechung)' and 'cycle(Zirkel)' as methodological concepts to support interdependency of these two viewpoints in Hermeneutics. Zurechung means explanation of meaning based upon the higher standard that includes to object of interpretation, while Zirkel means perception of part in order to understand the whole and, in turn, recognition of the whole in order to understand the part. These two concepts function inter-dependently in clarifying the object of interpretation and various problems of understanding human beings derived from it in the process of interpretation. This is also a key to the explanation that the object in social condition is closely related to historical perspective.

  • Animation is a popular art in the form of enlightenment that intimately approaches people of various ages and makes them reconsider the social problems they have ignored. Therefore, this paper analyzes how the character setting and formative symbolism in "The Willoughbys" raise awareness of social agendas. The previous studies found that the modern society needs to be aware of child abuse and various types of family, and examined that color and formativeness of animation induce psychological and behavior change from the audience. The work shows emotional abuse and neglect as characters, and presents the subdivided form of the family. The rainbow symbolizes diverse family members. The agents with visual characteristics express the modern principle-based secondary perpetrator along with apathetic neighbors to urge a change in audience perception. This paper insists the value of animation when it is essential to raise public awareness prior to the construction of a welfare society and support system.

  • 본 연구는 '인공지능이 그린 그림은 예술적 가치가 있는가?' '인공지능을 활용한 21세기의 현시대 예술은 무엇인가?' '어떻게 실현되는가?'라는 실천적 질문에서 출발하였다. 4차 산업혁명은 초실감(Hyper-Reality), 초지능(Hyper-Intellect), 초연결(Hyper-connect)로 '초(Hyper)의 시대'를 예고하고 있다. 이 혁명은 현시대 예술가에게 현실과 가상을 분간할 수 없는 혼합현실환경, 예술의 창작활동에 훌륭한 조수로서 역할을 할 수 있는 인공지능, 예술적 경험을 가상과 현실을 넘나들며, 언제 어디서나 즉각적으로 체험할 수 있는 기술을 제공한다. 실천적 질문에 대한 해답을 찾기 위하여 주관기관 홍익대학교, 참여기관 서울미디어대학원대학교, (주)브이알애드가 2018년 5월부터 2019년 12월까지 2년간 진행한 한국콘텐츠진흥원 문화기술 연구개발 지원사업 '인공지능 기반 창작 아틀리에 발굴 및 구축 기술 개발 프로젝트'를 통하여 인공지능 엔진(stNET, vidNET, hdtNET, omniNET)을 개발하였고 예술가와 4번의 전시를 통하여 성능 및 가치를 실증하였다. 인공지능은 그동안의 예술적 장르와는 차별화된 특이점을 가지고 있으며 응용 범위 또한 다양하다. 현시대 예술가에게 새로운 장르 개척의 훌륭한 조수로서 역할이 가능하다는 것이다. 그동안 현대 예술의 조형과 개념 미술에 한정적 메시지를 넘어, 인공지능기반 초 실감, 실 시간, 직관적 인터랙션을 통하여 직접적 예술 경험을 체험할 수 있다는 점에서, 현시대의 예술가에게 초 경험 예술(Hyper-Experience Art)의 시작인 동시에 새로운 장르 개척의 단초가 제공된다.

  • When it comes to art, the two conflicting themes of 'scientific progress' and the 'nature' have often motivated the advent of the new mode of arts. By the late 20th century, uniform and simplified mode of arts, inspired by scientific and technological progress of that time, was gradually disillusioned by the contemporaries due to the adverse effect of science on human life. In this context, naturalism pursuing for harmony of human and the nature came up as an alternative to those living in the 21st century. The pendulum has swung from minimalism to naturalism. Though the quantitative improvement of human life cannot be denied, the uprise of such problems as environmental pollution and exhaustion of natural resources degraded the quality of human life, which, eventually, shifted the attention to the theme - 'revival of naturality.' Therefore, this thesis intends to represent the modem interpretation of the 'revival of naturality' by applying the major expressions of Art Nouveau that also emphasized naturalism. Art Nouveau found its motifs from organic figures of natural beings and put them to designs of decorative arts. This carries a historical significance in that Art Nouveau boldly revolutionized historicism, which only repeated adoption and modification of the existing modes of arts, and opened it to the modem design with new attempts to practical applications of the arts. Art Nouveau, which means 'new art', prospered from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, and even after one century, it is highly appreciated, reviving as novel and vivid forms in this contemporary art. Art Nouveau based on naturalism has revisited our contemporary period when naturalism and feminized romanticism came into fashion and its common motifs revive in different jenre of arts such as fashion, furniture, glass works, and jewelry works. This study illustrates and analyzes the works of four major artists who gave a specific attention to botanical motifs of Art Nouveau and applies decorative beauty of highly sophisticated and organic curved lines and the expressional forms of botanical figures to design. Art Nouveau proved this; the nature herself is as beautiful as she can be. Within Art Nouveau, the true humanism can be revitalized with the 'revival of naturality'. This study rediscovered the boundless potential of modern interpretation and application of Art Nouveau in decorative art and design.

  • While various artistic trends coexisting in the 20th century, media arts that formed with the medium of a material attempts in various ways to induce the establishment of the artwork through the public communication. The visual arts that use the media satisfy both the artistry and the popularity in the area of popular culture as the form of variable. Moreover, visual arts stimulate a playful sense of human to maximize the public satisfaction that works here. This paper aims to discuss the potentials and the trends in the contemporary art by understanding the conceptual and principle background of the contemporary media art which shows the active employment the playful sense of human nature in the work in order to establish the effective communication with the public. Consequently, as the digital environment and advanced network technology which were thought to be the key elements of the popularization of media art were reached its limit, media artist, Tony oursler's artwork which was created based on human playful nature and interactive artwork that supports the audience to interact with artwork and its space are proven to be the useful devises for the public communication.

The pedagogical Idea and its Development in the Gradute School Ulm (울름조형대학의 교육이념과 그 발전과정)

  • 50년대에 급속한 경제성장을 이룩한 서독은 수출증대를 위하여 대량생산제품의 개발을 통한 국제경쟁력 강화를 꾀하였다. 여기에서 디자인이 제품의 질적 요소로서 그리고 판매증진의 요소로서 이해됨으로써, 제품개발을 위한 디자인의 개발이 강하게 요구되고, 또한 디자이너 양성을 위한 대학의 필요성이 대두되었다. 이러한 사회적 요구에 힘입어, 울름 조형대학은 '53년 8월 그 문을 열게 되었다. 설립초기에서부터 이 대학이 가장 중요하게 내세운 것은 바우하우스의 계승이었다. 그러나 초대 학장 막스 빌의 현대예술 중심적 디자인 관과 바우하우스 교수법을 그대로 답습하는 기초교육과정은 - 과학적으로 객관화된 디자인을“정치적”으로 정립하고자 - 바우하우스 이념을 계승하여 새로운 사회건설을 지향하는 젊은 강사들과 대립되는 것이었다. '55년 토마스 말도나도가 학장직을 대행하면서부터, 과학과목들의 도입과 더불어 바우하우스 계승의 길이 새롭게 모색되기 시작하였다. 그러나 디자인의 과학화 과정에서 과학기술을 맹신적으로 따르는 기술교조주의라는 문제에 즉면 하게 되고, 디자인에서의 과학기술을 사회적으로 재정립하기 위한 방향이 모색된다. 이로부터 인본주의적 인공환경의 건설을 지향하는 사회적 디자인, 즉“환경디자인 Umweltgestaltung”개념이 개발되고, 이의 과학적 방법론이 연구되었다. 결국,“환경디자인”은 울름 조형대학이 궁극적으로 추구한 불변의 이상향이 되었고, 이의 실천을 위한 기본 방법은“유닛시스템디자인Unit System Design(Baukasten-Systemdesign)”이었다. 이와 같이 울름 조형대학은 바우하우스의 계승이라는 대 명제 하에 인본 적으로 객관화된 과학적 디자인 개발에 일관된 노력을 기울였다. 그러나 여기에서 나타난 - 후기산업사회의 인간 중심적 발전을 목적으로 새로이 정립된 - 인본주의라는“정치성”으로 인하여, 결국 '68년 9월 30일 그 문을 닫게 되었다.

Formative Aesthetic of Head Accessory Design in Korean Women (우리나라 여성의 머리 장신구 디자인에 대한 조형미)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the formative aesthetic of head accessory design in korean women. Coming to Chosen, women from the court ir the nobility were Jukui, Wonsam, Whalot, Dangui and so on and as for the hair-form in this era, there were a long trees of hair for single and Unzonmeri(By making a tree with hair and raised up roundly) and Jjokmeri(Doing one's hair up in a chignon on the back of one's head) for married, as for a wig for ceremony they used Daeshu(As a same with today's wig added various head accessory design), Kunmeri(Putting a big hair made with a tree of Dukuji on Ayemeri) and Ayemeri(A big hair made with Darae on the head) and as for an head accessory design, there were Biye, Ddelgam and Chupji, which hadn't regularly developed untill the era Chosun. As is known, coming to the era of Chosun, the widely and generally used Biye and Duykokii fitted well to the most usual Jjokmeri.

A Research on the Creation of Floral Art Works Applying Characteristics of Contemporary Materials (현대적 소재의 특징을 활용한 화예작품 창작에 관한 연구)

  • Today, the expansion of the possibility of new expressions of plastic arts is largely due to emergence and application of new materials. In the field of flower design, it is found that there is a tendency to seek a new expression by utilizing various new materials instead of natural material that used in the past. This study is an attempt of applying methodological approach in the creation of floral art works utilizing the characteristics of contemporary materials in such context. The researcher gathered cases of specific effect and sensation in the expression of art works using various contemporary materials and extracted the characteristics using descriptive sentences applying behavior setting analysis technique. Reporting detailed result of the research total 100 guidelines under 41 sub-categories, 24 mid-categories, and 6 top categories such as transparency, lighting, combination of objects, combination of materials, reflection, shape construction. The researcher tested the effectiveness of the theories by applying deducted theories as the guidelines in creation process of her own floral art works. The significance of this study lies at experimenting the possibilities of applying methodological approach which could supplement intuitive approach in pursuit of expression for artists in the field of floral art and design.

  • We understand the real form with light and it make us to visualize the world. Hence, light have got a great influence on formative arts in many ways from ancient time to now. Invisible and substantial light is described by many representational tools in various way and project the illusion. Projected illusion caused the change in human and general social culture. For such a reason, the representation of light is most important issue without distinction of age, space and genre. Now we are faced with CGI light just same as real light. So we need to study about properties of CGI light representation.

  • As the quality of our life has improved, residential complexes have become more diverse now. Modern residential complexes function as a place for meeting and communication between families and neighbors, including parks, lakes, and promenades, and exhibiting sculptures in residential spaces has become an important component. This study was conducted for the purpose of researching the design development method for the sculptures displayed in the residential space in accordance with these changes and demands of the era. Through the process of visualizing the figurative arts with metal and stone used as materials, the artist's thoughts and messages were put in the sculpture and the arts were completed as the shape of the sculpture that viewers could sympathize with. This design and formative research shows the possibility that various visual elements for sympathy with the creator's thoughts can be formed in a place with the specificity of living space by using a figurative visualization method. Therefore, further researches on figurative art of sculptures are required.
