교실은 어떻게 '스마트'해지는가?

  • Information technology is sometimes considered as a cause that puts education in a big crisis, or it can be seen as a savior. In 2011, the Korean government announced that it would innovate education and build a talented nation by bringing IT into schools of public education system through the SMART education policy. The policy initiative aimed to establish a standard classroom models that can be diffused all over the country's schools so that teachers and students may become familiar of using devices such as tablet PCs and laptops. This paper analyzes how the smart classrooms caused friction in the actual education practices. To this end, I analyzed the direction and ideals of the SMART education policy by reading government policy document and design guidelines officially published, and visited three elementary schools that are actually building and operating a smart classroom environment to visit the facilities and have in-depth interviews with teachers and technicians. The ideal type of classroom proposed by the smart education policy was a package equipped with various functions at once in a neatly designed space like a "model house", but it was difficult to be used as a normal classroom in everyday life of school. Instead of copying and installing the model, each school decided to get "smart" in its own way, depending on how factors such as size, local characteristics, socioeconomic conditions of students and teachers, teacher experiences, and the level of existing infrastructure were combined. In Elementary School A, the machines tamed specific space of the school to create their own space, while following the rules of the school for being mobile. Although Elementary School B could not construct fully supported environment that encompassed the entire school, the system was organized with the help of well trained teacher's experiences in other schools. In Elementary School C, the machines are concentrated on specific classrooms and they promote teacher's professionalism. The components of the smart classroom were disassembled and recombined in context to make each school's classroom "smart".

Investigation of acoustic performances of the creative convergence classrooms in elementary schools (초등학교 창의융합교실의 음향성능 조사)

  • The present study aims to investigate the acoustic performance of the creative convergence classrooms in Korea used by elementary school students under the age of 9 introduced through the school space innovation project. In order to do this, acoustic performances of three creative convergence classrooms were measured. The measured acoustic parameters were background noise levels, Reverberation Time (RT), D50, Speech Transmission Index (STI), and Inter-Aural Cross Correlation (IACC). Also, acoustic parameters including Transmission Loss (TL) and standardized level difference (DnT) have been measured for the analysis of sound insulation performance of walls. In addition, the noise level was measured according to the opening conditions of doors and windows in the classroom. As a result, background noise level was measured at an average of 28.0 dB(A) to 32.8 dB(A) when the air conditioner was not operated, and the RT did not exceed 0.6 s. There were differences in IACC according to various desk layouts, and IACC values were high in the center line and the seats near the sound source. In particular, higher IACC was measured at the seats on the center line facing the source squarely. Regarding noise level in the classroom according to the opening conditions of doors and windows, the standards were exceeded when all windows, or windows and doors front onto the corridor were opened.

Exploratory Study on the Educational Planning Process Model for School Space Innovation - Focusing on User Participatory Design Practices - (학교교육공간 혁신을 위한 교육기획 절차 모형 탐색 - 교육분야 사용자 참여 설계 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study presents a model for educational planning based on user participatory design for the purposes of curriculum development and educational space innovation. It reviewed previous research and practices related to educational space innovation, educational planning processes, and user participation design and suggested a draft model. This model was applied in the renovation project of an elementary school, and the problems encountered during the application were reflected upon and used to improve the model. The final model comprises four phases. Phase 1 is an initial exploratory phase foruser participation, where educational planners and users form a shared perspective regarding the future of education. Phase 2 is a needs-analysis phase for the transition to future education, which focuses on setting the overall direction of the school-level curriculum. Phase 3 specifies the direction of future school curricula and identifies needs for educational spaces. Finally, Phase 4 focuses on the interaction between educational and space planners. Based on the above discussion, the study discussed the benefits and limitations of this educational planning model for school space innovation.

Difficulties and Coping Methods Encountered by Authors of 5th and 6th Grade Science Textbooks: Based on Grounded Theory (초등학교 5, 6학년 과학교과서 집필자가 겪은 어려움과 대처 방법 : 근거이론을 중심으로)

  • This research is an investigation of difficulties encountered by authors of 5th and 6th grade science textbooks. The aim is to assist authors in creating more easily understandable textbooks in the future. In-depth interviews were conducted with 6 teachers who have previously taken part in the development of 5th and 6th grade texts. The responses given during these interviews were analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding as suggested by Strauss and Corbin (1998). The results are as follows: In open coding, related concepts were extracted and classified into 15 main categories and 46 sub-categories. In axial coding, the main categories were arranged into causal conditions, main phenomenon, context, intervening conditions, action and interactional strategies, and consequences wherein they were consistently related to each other based on Grounded theory. Finally, in selective coding, core categories were instilled whereby the texts being developed were categorized into conservative, progressive, and innovative to allow for easier interpretation. This was done to improve the overall quality of Science textbooks.

  • In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, the importance of artificial intelligence(AI) is growing day by day, and there is no disagreement that AI education will bring great innovation in the future. Various attempts are being made to educate the topic of AI, but students who have no experience in AI education recognize AI only as a difficult target. Therefore, in this study, we analyze the changes in students' perception of AI by teaching them using AI. AI convergence education were conducted for 6th grade elementary school students, and pre and post tests were conducted in the form of AI awareness survey questionnaires which included questions such as interest in AI, changes brought by AI, and AI education. As a result, we confirm significant results that suggest the level of awareness of AI has improved through AI education in all factors. AI convergence education requires various AI convergence education programs as a form of education for social needs and future students, and hopefully a design based on this will help realize student centered education.

  • A web based courseware was designed and implemented for teaching number 0 to 5 to students of first grade in elementary school. The leveled learning program, according to the difference of learning abilities between learners, provides them with the contents and problems of leveled learning. This study shows the proper feedback to learners after considering their answers and provides them the effective learning situation where children learn without any restrictions of time and space. Therefore, the leveled and differentiated learning has been realized and this courseware enhanced students' interests in learning and desire for achievement. Also, it led them who can attend just for a short time to attend continuously and to participate eagerly in learning.

  • 교수학습센터는 교원의 전문성 향상과 교육정보화 기반 학교 교육 혁신을 실천하기 위한 중요한 목표를 수행하고 있다. 국내에는 대학에서부터 초등학교에 이르기까지 다양한 교수학습센터가 설치 운영되고 있다. 대상은 국가차원의 초중등 교육의 교수학습을 지원하는 중앙단위의 교수학습센터이다. 본 연구에서는 교수학습센터의 성과를 효과적이고 효율적으로 평가할 수 있는 성과 분석 모형 개발에 앞서 여러 성과평가모형의 이론 및 실천적 탐색을 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 교수학습센터의 성과평가에 관련된 이론적 관점과 실천적 관점의 모형탐색을 살펴볼 수 있을 것이며, 이를 통해 모형 개발과 성과 평가를 위한 실천 전략을 수립하는데 기여할 것이다.

A study on factors influencing the decision of Web-based Learning System (Edunet) use (웹기반 학습 시스템(에듀넷) 활용 결정에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is finding factors affecting the decision of Web-based learning system (Edunet) use and searching for ways to diffuse Edunet use. Based on the diffusion of innovations theory and the results of the previous studies about web-based instruction, seven predictors influencing the decision of Edunet use were extracted. Seven variables as the followings; (1) perceived attributes of innovation (Relative Advantage, Compatibility, Complexity) (2) Innovativeness (3) Self-efficacy (4) Subjective Norm (5) Support. The participants were 315, 5-6th grade elementary school students, and the questionnaire was 20-item with 7-point Likert scales. To analyze the collected data and test the hypothesis, binary logistic regression was employed. The result indicated that the fitness of regression model including seven decision factors was proved. In addition, two factors, subjective norm and support, were identified as the important decision factors of Edunet use.

Introduction of AI digital textbooks in mathematics: Elementary school teachers' perceptions, needs, and challenges (수학 AI 디지털교과서의 도입: 초등학교 교사가 바라본 인식, 요구사항, 그리고 도전)

  • In response to the era of transformation necessitating the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies, educational innovation is undertaken with the implementation of AI digital textbooks in Mathematics, English, and Information subjects by 2025 in Korea. Within this context, this study analyzed the perceptions and needs of elementary school teachers regarding mathematics AI digital textbook. Based on a survey conducted in November 2023, involving 132 elementary school teachers across the country, the analysis revealed that the majority of elementary school teachers had a low perception of the introduction and need for mathematics AI digital textbooks. However, some recognized the potential for personalized learning and effective teaching support. Furthermore, among the core technologies of the AI digital textbook, teachers highly valued the necessity of learning diagnostics and teacher reconfiguration functions and had the most positive perception of their usefulness in math lessons, while their perception of interactivity was relatively low. These findings suggest the need for changing teachers' perceptions through professional development and information provision to ensure the successful adoption and use of mathematics AI digital textbooks. Specifically, providing concrete and practical ways to use the AI digital textbook, exploring alternatives to digital overload, and continuing development and research on core technologies.

A Study on Instructional Design Model of Music Education Applying Flipped Learning in Elementary School (플립러닝(Flipped Learning)을 적용한 초등학교 음악과 교수설계 방안 연구)

  • In line with the 4th industrial revolution and the innovative changes of the 21st century knowledge and information society, the education field where the 2015 revised curriculum is applied is facing a situation where it is necessary to consider various teaching and learning methods. Among them, interest in instructional design applying flipped learning suitable for future education is growing, but studies on classes using flipped learning in actual music and education are rare. In general music classes currently conducted in the elementary education field, it is insufficient to learn the musical function targeted in the class. Therefore, this study developed and validated an instructional design model for elementary school music and classes that applied flipped learning based on the ADDIE model, which is a systematic instructional design model, using the design and development research methodology. Based on the developed instructional design model, major issues for each stage were presented, and major educational implications in the development process were discussed.
