Development of a Voltage Measuring System for the Pusan-Hamada Submarine Cable (부산 - 병전간 해저케이블 전압측정 장치의 개발)

  • A voltage measuring system specified for the voltage fluctuation of the Pusan-Hamada submarine cable is developed by adding circuits of differential amplification and analog-to-digital conversion to a microprocessor-based data logger with a data modem. This system is charaterized by its small size. no power failure. fully unmanned operation. and precise instrumental drift correction. In addition to the cable voltage and current it measures an ambient temperature and a mercury cell voltage in order to calibrate temperature effect and check its long-term stability. The data acquired by this system show that the voltage signal. comprising fast random noises with a constant width of about 0.2V. fluctuates within a range of about 1V and the fluctuation frequency is similar to that of tidal motion. The source voltage of power feeding equipment (PFE) for the cable system seems to be affected when the room temperature changes rapidly.

  • Submarine cable is the most important IT infrastructure for international communication across oceans. However, a cable fault rarely happens by ship's anchor, fishing gears, submarine earthquake, and so on, and we need to improve on repair time for the reducing expenses of cable repair ship as well as the stability of high-capacity submarine optical network. There are several kinds of cable faults such as Shunt fault, Cable cut, Open fault and Fiber break. When a fault is occurred, cable landing stations(CLS) have to analysis failure quickly and accurately to find the type and the location of a cable fault. During the repair period, CLS should swiftly perform the tests requested by cable repair ship. In order to make rapid progress on cable repair, CLS test technique is very important. So, in order to reduce the repair time, this paper is studying the CLS test techniques of locating a submarine cable fault and of checking the splicing point performed by cable repair ship.

  • 한국전력공사는 전남 해남군 및 제주도 제주시에 직류송전방식의 HVDC 설비를 '98. 03. 준공 운영 중이다. HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current)는 영국 GEC-Alstom의 150MW$\times$2 Pole 변환설비 및 프랑스 Alcatel사의 101km 해저케이블 2회선으로 구성되어 제주도 전력수요의 40%를 담당, 안정적 전력 공급과 발전 연료비 절감에 기여하고 있다. 본 논문은 변환설비 운영 중 해저케이블 1회선 고장 발생에 대비한 해수 귀로용 전극 설비의 기능유지에 적절한 구조물개선과 보수비용 절감을 위한 방법 및 운영 개선 방안에 대하여 고찰하였다.

  • Yeosu area from the old historical monuments and artifacts related communications signal station, directions display panels, lighthouse, Geomundo the first submarine cable installation, etc. That appears in old documents and communications of the area should check the history and development of communication in understanding the Yeosu area and communicate the need to identify resources historicity.
