  • The composite actions of truss beams and floor slabs are not reflected on the design of the truss beam in domestic practice. In this research, basic experiments were conducted on a composite truss with the top and bottom chord members consisting of the H-shaped members. The tests were performed to evaluate the mechanical behaviors of the composite truss on the effects with the shear studs and without them. The specimens consisted of the steel truss and non-composite and composite trusses, and one-point-concentrated loading at the center and equivalent loading were monotonically applied. The composite effects were experimentally identified in the composite trusses using the shear stud connectors.

  • Steel trusses that act compositely with concrete slabs have proven to be an economical system for long-span floors. The composite action is generally achieved by providing shear connections between the steel top chord and the concrete topping. The composite sections have greater stiffness than the sum of the individual stiffnesses of the slab and truss. Therefore, steel trusses that act compositely with concrete slabs can carry larger loads and are stifferand less prone to transient vibration. During the tests that were performed in this study, the crack pattern and deflection of the beam of the composte truss were investigated. The test results were compared with the results for the noncomposite trusses.

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the structural behavior of composite CFT truss girder bridge with full depth precast panels. The length of span is 20,000 mm. The CFT truss girder is a tubular truss composed of chord members made of concrete-filled and hollow circular tubes. To determine fundamental structural characteristics such as the strength and deformation properties of composite CFT truss girder bridge, static and dynamic tests were conducted. The natural frequencies calculated by the FEM are in good agreement with experimental results obtained from dynamic test. Bracing have only a small effect on the natural frequencies of composite CFT truss girder bridge as indicated by the FEM results. The yield strength and deformation of the composite CFT truss girder bridges were investigated through a static bending test. Besides, the test results showed that uniform distribution of shear connectors can be applicable in composite CFT truss girder bridges.

  • The composite action in truss beam is generally achieved by providing shear connectors between the steel top chord of the truss and the concrete slab. The composite sections have greater stiffness than the sum of the individual stinesses of the slab and truss. Therefore, steel trusses that act compositely with concrete slabs can carry larger load and are stiffer and less prone to transient vibration. The crack pattern and deflection of the beam of the composte truss were investigated by using of 600MPa class steel in this study. The test results were compared with the results for the noncomposite trusses. Test results were also compared with the results of composite trusses by using of 400MPa class steel. It was ascertained that the case of high strength steel is more efficient compared with the case of SS400 steel for T-shaped steel.

  • This paper proposes a new composite deckplate system reinforced with inverted triangular truss girders(called 'D Deck'), which does not require the use of temporary supports at construction stage. The proposed system retains increased stiffness and strength while keeping the absolute floor height change to a minimum level and can be utilized as floor systems of various types beam members such as the conventional wide-flange and U-shaped composite beams. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, five specimens with a span of 5.5 m were fabricated and tested under field loading conditions consisting of several intermediate steps. The load-deflection curves of each specimen were plotted and compared with the nonlinear three-dimensional finite element analysis results. The comparison showed that the effective load sharing between the truss girders and floor deck occurs and the maximum deflection under construction stage loading is well below the limit estimated by the provisions in Korea Building Code.

  • Push-out tests were performed to evaluate the shear capacity of a composite steel truss deck slab system, called an automatic prefabrication bar-mesh system, using lightweight concrete. The six specimens were classified into three groups: DP, NDP, and Solid, according to the variations between the bar mesh and the zinc plate automatic prefabrications. This paper focused on the failure behaviors, load-displacement characteristics, and a performance comparison based on design codes.

  • The primary objective of the present study was to attempt to quantify the effect of the existing codes for CFT composite section on initial section flexural stiffness, based on the measured vibration frequency of CFT truss girders. The formulae for the initial flexural stiffness of the composite sections in the different codes are compared with the free vibration test results. The results of the free vibration test on the CFT truss girders are in good agreement with the analysis results when used in ACI formulae. The free vibration analysis of CFT truss girders for different f/L ratios was conducted to determine how the natural frequency of the CFT truss girder is affected by different f/L ratios. The presence of the f/L ratios in CFT truss girders alters its frequencies of vibration because of the global stiffness of the CFT girders. The frequency in horizontal modes decreases as the f/L ratio increases. However, the frequency in vertical modes increases as the f/L ratio increases.

  • A slab examined by this study is the half precast concrete(PC) slab with the truss-reinforcement. There are many studies on the composite slab, but the study on the half precast concrete(PC) slab is little. Especially, the study on a structural performance of the half PC slab according to the height of the truss-reinforcement is extremely little. Therefore, in this research, three kinds of slabs with different height of the truss-reinforcement were made, and the bending test was conducted to research a structural performance.

  • The study performed a series of flexural tests on Closed Cold-Formed Steel Sections for stud, joist, and roof truss. Results were compared with analytical values. Each 2.4-m long and 0.9-m wide specimen consisted of two steel beams set at 0.46 m interval. The steel beams were attached to the specimens using either plaster board or ply wood. Another specimens did not use any attachment material. Positive and negative bending tests were conducted to investigate the composite behavior, including the effects of plaster board or ply wood on the buckling behavior of steel beam. Full-scale roof truss tests were also performed to study the buckling behavior and failure mode of the truss members.

  • The composite truss has been widely used for tall buildings and long-span structures in North America. As compared with other similar structures, it has merits such as reduction of construction period, low span/depth ratio, low dead weight and so on. It has the most effective trait for structures with long span of 12~18m. After collapse of WTC, the fire resistance behaviors of structures have been actively conducted under various fire conditions in several country. This study showed that the surface temperature of steel member in the composit truss beam was reached to $700^{\circ}C$ under the fire condition of a short time. Under the same condition, the temperature in concrete was within $200^{\circ}C$. The composit truss beam with 20mm bracing was collapsed by rapid deflection after about 3minutes. However, the beams with 25mm, 35mm, and 45mm bracing were not collapsed, even though those were reached to deflection standard of L/20 within 15minutes.
