  • Productive struggle is a student's persevering effort to understand mathematical concepts and solve challenging problems that are not easily solved, but the problem can lead to curiosity. Productive struggle is a key component of students' learning mathematics with a conceptual understanding, and supporting it in learning mathematics is one of the most effective mathematics teaching practices. In comparison to research on students' productive struggles, there is little research on preservice mathematics teachers' productive struggles. Thus, this study focused on the productive struggles that preservice mathematics teachers face in solving a non-routine mathematics problem. Polya's four-step problem-solving process was used to analyze the collected data. Examples of preservice teachers' productive struggles were analyzed in terms of each stage of the problem-solving process. The analysis showed that limited prior knowledge of the preservice teachers caused productive struggle in the stages of understanding, planning, and carrying out, and it had a significant influence on the problem-solving process overall. Moreover, preservice teachers' experiences of the pleasure of learning by going through productive struggle in solving problems encouraged them to support the use of productive struggle for effective mathematics learning for students, in the future. Therefore, the study's results are expected to help preservice teachers develop their professional expertise by taking the opportunity to engage in learning mathematics through productive struggle.

  • The subjects of this study were 415 children in the first to third grade selected from 4 primary schools. Among them, 212 children belong to the experimental group, and 203 children were in the control group. The program was provided respectively to first, third and fifth grade children for 2, 4 and 6 teaching-hours from 2013.1.1 to 2013.12.19. To measure the effects of the program, the knowledge and attitudes on/toward smoking, self-concept were used as the research tools. Before and after program-implementation, there were significant differences in knowledge of smoking, but no differences in attitudes and self-concept. A smoking prevention program for primary school children should be applied step-by-step in conjunction with the regular education curriculum. In addition, the program should aim for long-term effects rather than short-term effects.

  • Currently, NTIS (National Technology Information Service) is building an interactive search service based on artificial intelligence technology. In order to understand users' search intentions and provide R&D information, an interactive search service is built based on deep learning models and morpheme analyzers. The deep learning model learns based on the log data loaded when using NTIS and interactive search services and understands the user's search intention. And it provides task information through step-by-step search. Understanding the search intent makes exception handling easier, and step-by-step search makes it easier and faster to obtain the desired information than integrated search. For future research, it is necessary to expand the range of information provided to users.

  • This study noted that elementary school students were unable to accurately comprehend the principles of moon phase changes and that teachers themselves lacked a full understanding of it as well. Therefore, this study classifies conception types through 161 5th grade respondents and suggests how to change students' conception types through the use of reconstructed teaching and learning materials (that have been developed in existing studies). It verified the changes in the learning achievement of 129 5th grade respondents and analyzed how to think about reconstructed teaching and learning materials through four teacher respondents and four 5th grade respondents from the same study. The results of this study are as follows: First, the conception types on moon phase changes were classified into C and W types. W types consisted of W1, W2, W3, W4, and W5 types. Students had difficulty in understanding the principles of a waxing crescent moon and first quarter phase changes. Second, the group taking classes, which implemented reconstructed teaching and learning materials, showed greater improvement in learning achievement posttest and long-term tests compared to those who have not. Finally, teachers and students reacted positively to the reconstructed teaching and learning materials as shown in exit survey results. In conclusion, it is suggested that teachers are better off utilizing reconstructed teaching and learning materials so that elementary school students may fully understand the principles of moon phase changes rather than just memorizing the results.

App development was developed in four stages: analysis, design, development, and evaluation by modifying the ADDIE model. In the analysis stage, education goals were set and seven core competencies were extracted for the app. In the design stage, 15 menus, including character to implement seven core competencies, were selected for learning contents. In the development stage, questions were asked based on 1,000 photos, and parents and children naturally talked to strengthen their core competencies. In the evaluation stage, the user's evaluation interview was followed by a reflux process that produced and reflected improvements. Based on research results, it is going to suggest follow-up research on developing apps for home humanity education. First, it is necessary to verify the learning experiences and changes that occur when parents and children use apps for a long time through longitudinal research. Second, a follow-up study is needed on how to use the home humanity education app by age and how to improve it accordingly. Third, as the number of cases in which grandparents raise their grandchildren increases, it is necessary to study the process and learning effects of grandparents and grandchildren using the app.

  • The mathematical ability is an essential element for achieving professional competencies and for enhancing application ability in a vocational world and exploring its experiences. In this aspect, for vocational high school students, it is an important and urgent issue to develop remedial learning programs for developing mathematical basic and application ability. In particular, the program is developed based on the individual achievement level, focused on a mathematical basic ability to be applied efficiently in a vocational world. Because of this reason, in this study, the program is comprised of two phases; one is diagnosis test and the other is remedial teaching and learning materials. Then, diagnosis test includes three test; I) level testing evaluation for selecting the subject of remedial learning, ii) pre-test for deciding on which area and level of the materials when students begin to study, and iii) post-test for confirming the learning status is satisfied and the possibility of next step(level) or the other area of the materials. To accomplish this, this study tried to devise an efficient remedial learning system. Based on the system, this study developed remedial learning programs on the four areas of number and quantity, change and relation, uncertain thing, and figure and shape in the middle school level. In particular, this program is comprised of two types of knowledge. One is K-knowledge which is an essential knowledge to achieve a basic mathematical ability. The other is C-knowledge which is the advanced knowledge required to apply efficiently in a vocational world. This paper deals with the content mentioned above, but examples of the materials is shown focused on the area of change and relation.
