Using Learning Management Systems for Self-directed Learning of Elementary School Students (초등학생의 자기주도학습을 위한 LMS 활용방안)

  • Recently, a learning management system incorporating ICT technology into learning has helped students improve self-directed learning skills. Self-directed learning using LMS promotes and stimulates learners' participation in learning, focusing on the advantages of efficient use of learning resources and the spread of communication. In this study, we study the impact of self-directed learning using the learning management system on elementary school students' motivation and academic performance. We expect learners will be able to achieve effective academic achievement by learning problems that fit their level through the algorithms of the proposed learning management system. For this study, a total of 16 classes were conducted for eight weeks using the proposed learning management system for 21 elementary school students. Research has shown significant improvement in the learning orientation and interest areas of the learners who participated in the experiment.

The Effect of Motive for Participation on the Satisfaction with Training for Caregivers (요양 보호사 교육에서 교육생의 참여동기가 교육만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • With the purpose of improving the quality of training for caregivers, this study examines how caregivers' motivation to participate in training affects their level of satisfaction with their training. This study surveyed 281 trainees at a caregiver training agency in City B on their motivation to participate in, and satisfaction with, training. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and regression analysis were used. Activity-oriented training was chosen as the top motivator with the highest satisfaction level with regard to the trainers. Motivation particularly influenced activity-oriented and learning-oriented training. In contrast, goal-oriented activities did not affect the trainees' satisfaction with their training. The conclusion is that the level of caregivers' motivation to participate in training has the greatest effect on their satisfaction with their training.

Understanding the Language Learner from the Imagined Communities Perspective: The Case of Korean Language Learners in the U.S. (상상공동체 관점을 통한 한국어 학습자 동기 이해)

  • The current study seeks to understand the multi-faceted desires of language learners through the theoretical lens of imagined communities (Norton, 2001). Particularly, the study focuses on the learners of Korean language-one of the less commonly taught languages in the U.S. that has received relatively less attention in previous literature on second language motivation. The study analyzed and compared the narratives told by eleven Korean language learners in a post-secondary language program, and identified four types of imagined communities: Communities of K-pop Culture, Communities of Professionals, Communities of Korean Family and Relatives, and Communities of ethnic Koreans. The study found that these imagined communities were not restricted to a specific region or an ethnic group but encompassed various populations connected through the use of Korean language. The study also found variability within what has been readily labelled as heritage motivation (or motivation related to heritage), as well as striking differences between heritage language learners and non-heritage language learners in terms of their scope of imagination.

Exploring science learning motivation of technical high school students through comparison (일반계 고등학생과의 비교를 통한 공업계 특성화고등학교 학생들의 과학학습동기 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the science learning motivation of technical high school students through comparison with general high school students. 596 high school students and 1063 general high school students participated in the study. Three statistical methods were used for data analysis: two-way ANOVA, independent sample t-test, and Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that the interaction between school type and grade had a significant effect on the difference of students' motivation for science learning. There was a significant difference in learning motivation among general high school students according to academic year, while there was no significant difference between first and second grader of technical high school students. Especially, technical high school students showed low level of science learning motivation compared to the students in general high school. The correlations among five motivational factors of science learning motivation were also significantly lower than that of general high school students. Lastly, the result of correlation analysis between science motivation and academic achievement showed that second year students in technical high school had less correlation coefficients than the first year students. Given these results, it is necessary to develop a educational strategy for enhancing science learning motivation of technical school students. We will discuss the direction of science education for technical high school based on our findings.

  • Recently, as the importance of computational thinking skills has increased, several schools have opened and operated software courses for all students. Software education aims to creatively solve various problems based on coding, but it is difficult to motivate non-major learners who do not have engineering knowledge or are not interested in the IT field. Motivation for learning plays an important role in improving learners' concentration and learning efficiency. In this paper, a method of motivating non-major learners for software subjects was studied and the results were evaluated through a questionnaire.

The Effects of College Students' Motivation to Participate in Bodybuilding (Participation in Weight Training) on Behavioral Intention through Psychological Repulsion (대학생의 보디빌딩 참여하는(웨이트 트레이닝 참여) 동기가 심리적 반응을 통한 행동 의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Interest in bodybuilding, such as weight training, has increased, but research on the motivation and behavioral intention of college students is lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the motives of bodybuilding participation for college students and to find out the effect on behavioral intention by mediating the psychological resistance that occurs during the bodybuilding. As for the research method, a questionnaire was conducted on 250 users through an online survey from May 30 to June 10, 2023, and a total of 232 copies were used for the final analysis. As a result of the study, first, among college students' motivation to participate in weight training, the health-oriented type and self-development type had a positive effect on voluntary acceptance. Second, among the motives for participating in weight training, the home-oriented type was found to have a negative effect on opportunistic acceptance. Finally, voluntary acceptance had a positive effect on learning outcomes, and opportunistic acceptance had a negative effect on learning outcomes. Using the results of this study, it is expected that it will be helpful to understand the factors and policies in promoting the physical health of college students.

  • 본 논문에서는 수준차가 심한 다인수 학급 체제에서 STS 학습의 한계점을 살펴보고, 한계점을 보완할수 있는 롤플레잉에듀게임을 설계하고 구현하였다. 학습자들이 시간과 공간의 제약을 받지 않고 롤플레잉 에듀게임에 참여하도록 함으로써 문제해결력을 비롯한 학습목표 도달 가능성을 높이고, 이들의 과학 학습에 대한 흥미와 관심 및 자신감, 성취동기 등을 높일 수 있도록 과학과 STS 학습에 적용 가능한 개선방안을 제안하였다.

A Case Study on Design of Theme-based Integrated Learning by Using QR Code (QR코드를 활용한 주제중심 통합학습 설계 사례연구)

  • This research aims at suggesting a case of designing theme-based integrated learning for usage smart media. New approach and direction for developing a gaming instructional design was suggested which can encourage learners to participate in. Quest-based learning, the learning environment design where learners conduct various learner-centered activities, plays an important role of reinforcing the motivation, promoting experiential and cooperative learning based on social interaction. The design using QR codes has been proved to be able to offer the learner-centered learning environment which includes social interaction strategy required for learners expanding their cognitive structure, motivation enhancing strategy encouraging their consistent participation in learning, complex problematic situation and scaffolding strategy emphasized by constructivism. And it is expected to contribute to promoting the design of theme-based integrated learning which is being demanded in the educational environment recently by combining systematic design process and strategies.

Analysis of Factors Hindering Learners' Participation in Cyber Home Study in Elementary Education (초등교육에서 사이버가정학습 참여 저해요인 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that influence elementary school learners' participation in cyber home study, and to suggest possible solutions to problem of the participation rates. To identify the factors, we analyzed the literature and developed a questionnaire consisting of 8 possible factors and 33 items. Data gathered from 429 elementary school learners were analyzed in a logistic regression model, which was utilized to determine the probability of the learner's participation in cyber home study because of any of the identified variables. We studied the following variables: problem from learning motivation & attitude, burden from computer, difficulty of new learning method, problem from instructional design, difficulty of interaction, problem from screen design, and problem from learning environment. The results indicated that two factors were important: burden from computer, difficulty of new learning method. That is to say, having a low level of burden of computer and difficulty of new learning method helps improve the rate of elementary school learners' participation in cyber home study.

The Impact of Motivation behind a Pilgrimage on the Satisfaction Level of Participants and Desire for Revisitation: Examining Holy Places as Moderator Variables (대순진리회 수도인의 성지순례 참여 동기가 만족도와 재참여 의사에 미치는 영향 - 성지 가치의 조절효과를 중심으로 -)

  • In Daesoon Jinrihoe (The Society of Daesoon Truth), pilgrimages can serve as a medium to experience and spread Daesoon Thought. The purpose of this study is to gauge the empirical impact that the motive of a pilgrimage has on the satisfaction level of the participant and the participant's willingness to revisit the holy place. This study further suggests a variety of propositions to promote pilgrimages and thereby Daesoon Thought. This study employs hierarchical analysis for measuring the correlation between all factors the pilgrimage can entail and also the moderator variables (holy places) in the pilgrimage. The study reveals that empirical motive is one of the most influential factors in determining a given participant's level of satisfaction and willingness to revisit said holy place. It is also revealed also that the religious significance of a holy place plays an important role in satisfaction and future revisitation. This study claims pilgrimages are a form of learning and cultural exchange which promotes Daesoon Thought that enables maturity of religious faith. Thereby, all stake holders in the Daesoon Jinrihoe community including clergy should increase their efforts to raise awareness and recognition of Daesoon Truth.
