Case study on the effects of VR educational media on oral imaging practice (치위생학과 구강영상학실습 수업에서의 VR활용에 관한 사례 연구)

  • Objectives: This study aims to confirm the educational necessity and utilization of VR media. And it was conducted to prepare basic data necessary for the use of VR in various dental hygiene education in the future and the development of innovative practical training courses. Methods: Before and after using VR in oral radiology practice classes, learning interest (4 items), learning commitment (9 items), learning motivation (5 items), educational media preference (4 items), and satisfaction (10 items) were investigated and analyzed. Friedman two way ANOVA by ran a nonparametric analysis corresponding to repeated measures ANOVA was performed. The statistical significance level was 0.05. Results: It was found that there were statistically significant differences in learning interest, learning immersion, and learning motivation according to the type of oral radiology practice education medium (p<0.05). Conclusions: VR is expected that the use of learning media using VR will lead to students' interest, immersion, and learning motivation in class, and that positive learning effects on VR education media can be sufficiently obtained.

Health Exercise Biodata Analysis Education in the Corona 19 Pandemic Era: Cognitive Analysis of MZ Generation Face-to-Face Practice Class Content (코로나19시대 보건운동생체바이오데이터 교육: MZ세대 대면실습 참여 콘텐츠 인식 분석)

  • By analyzing the recognition analysis and motivation method of the determinants, this study investigates the future development direction of health exercise biodata analysis face-to-face practice education content. The participants were 40 millennial and zoomers (MZ) generation college graduates. Factors related to the decision to participate in face-to-face practice classes in the field of health exercise biodata and bio-digital content convergence technology in the era of COVID-19 were measured. Of the participants, 67.5% voluntarily decided to participate in small group classes while observing social distancing rules. This study presented the most effective and learning motive methods to participate in face-to-face training. Health exercise biodata needs improvement in terms of integrating with adjacent disciplines such as big data.

The Structure Model Analysis of Cyber University Learners' Academic Self-efficacy, Learning Motivation, Self-directed Learning and Learning Flow (사이버대학 학습자의 학업적 자기효능감, 학습동기, 자기주도학습, 학습몰입의 구조분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a structural theoretical model that can explain the learning flow of online distance education participants and to clarify the structural causal relationship among related variables that affect the learning flow of cyber university learners. Study results found a modified final model with a statistically significant fit based on the structural research model proposed in this study explained the learning flow of cyber university learners. Second, as a result of verifying the relationship between learning motivation and learning flow of cyber university learners, it was found that intrinsic motivation had a significant positive effect on learning flow. Third, as a result of the empirical verification on the relationship between academic self-efficacy and learning flow of cyber university learners, it was found that academic self-efficacy had a significant effect on learning flow. Fourth, as a result of empirical verification on the relationship between self-directed learning and the learning flow of cyber university learners, it was found that the learner's self-directed learning ability had a significant effect on learning flow. Such research results can be used to suggest a strategic direction for successful settlement and diffusion of a new paradigm of online non-face-to-face distance education, which has recently attracted attention.

Effects of a Program to Improve Self-Directed Learning Skills on College Students' Self-Directed Learning Skills (자기주도학습능력 향상을 위한 프로그램이 대학생의 자기주도학습 능력에 미치는 효과)

  • In this study, we analyzed the effects of program participation aimed at enhancing self-directed learning abilities in university students on the motivational, cognitive, and behavioral aspects of self-directed learning. The study included 2,302 students enrolled in a university located in Region D, and data collection took place from March 2 to December 31, 2022. Comparing the experimental group(751 students) who participated in the program for self-directed learning improvement with the control group(1551 students), the experimental group exhibited a 0.24-point increase, whereas the control group showed a 0.08-point increase, demonstrating a significant difference between the two groups(t=34.89, p<.001). Furthermore, in the post-hoc analysis of self-directed learning ability scores based on the frequency of program participation, the mean difference between those who participated in 1 to 3 programs and those engaged in 4 to 6 programs was 0.067 points(p<.001). The mean difference between participants in 4 to 6 programs and those in 7 or more programs was -0.135 points(p<.001), and the mean difference between those involved in 1 to 3 programs and those in 7 or more programs was 0.067 points(p<.001). These results underscore the importance of recognizing self-directed learning abilities as a crucial competency in higher education and emphasize the significance of efforts to promote program participation and increase participation frequency.

An analysis of student engagement strategy and questioning strategy in a peer mentoring teaching method (동료 멘토링 교수법에서 교사의 수업 참여전략과 발문전략 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest ways to promote student engagement by analyzing how a teacher's student engagement strategies and questioning strategies affect class participation and problem solving in a peer mentoring teaching method. As for the purpose, after recording 7th grader's classroom using a peer mentoring and transcribing classroom discourse, we analyzed student engagement strategies for class participation and questioning strategies for helping mathematical concepts and problem solving, and compared mathematics achievements in mid-term and final exams. As results, in learning environments based on comfortable atmosphere, diverse student engagement strategies and appropriate questioning strategies with effectiveness of peer mentoring encouraged students to participate in class by motivating them, helped them to develop mathematical concepts and deepen understanding of problem solving through effective social interactions, and improved student achievement in mathematics. The results can practically help to develop class design considering both student engagement strategy and questioning strategy by specifically presenting a teaching method for promoting student engagement and teacher's contributions to it.

The Analysis on Effects of Applying the Contents of Augmented Reality - Focused on the English Class in Elementary - (증강현실 콘텐츠 활용수업의 효과성 분석 - 초등학교 영어과목을 중심으로-)

  • This study analyzed the effects of augmented reality contents in the elementary school English curriculum. The study revealed the differences between study focus rate, study participation activeness, study activities consuming variables and instructional climate of a group that used augmented reality contents of the English curriculum produced by KERIS and ETRI in 2008, and a group that did not use the contents. As a result, there was no significant difference between the group that studied with augmented reality contents and the group that studied in a traditional method in terms of study focus rate. For study participation activeness, the traditional class had higher scores. On the other hand, the augmented reality contents class had an even spread of study activities consuming variables overall. In terms of instructional climate, the traditional class had higher scores in the amiable field. These results show that in English classes, the student's focusing skills and motivation for studies and stimulation of students' concentration are more related to results than the type of contents.

An Analysis of Students' Experiences Using the Block Coding Platform KNIME in a Science-AI Convergence Class at a Science Core High School (과학중점학교 학생의 블록코딩 플랫폼 KNIME을 활용한 과학-AI 융합 수업 경험 분석)

  • The 2022 revised science curriculum aims to develop the ability to solve scientific problems arising in daily life and society based on convergent thinking stimulated through participation in research activities using artificial intelligence (AI). Therefore, we developed a science-AI convergence education program that combines the science curriculum with artificial intelligence and employed it in convergence classes for high school students. The aim of the science-AI convergence class was for students to qualitatively understand the movement of a damped pendulum and build an AI model to predict the position of the pendulum using the block coding platform KNIME. Individual in-depth interviews were conducted to understand and interpret the learners' experiences. Based on Giorgi's phenomenological research methodology, we described the learners' learning processes and changes, challenges and limitations of the class. The students collected data and built the AI model. They expected to be able to predict the surrounding phenomena based on their experimental results and perceived the convergence class positively. On the other hand, they still perceived an with the unfamiliarity of platform, difficulty in understanding the principle of AI, and limitations of the teaching method that they had to follow, as well as limitations of the course content. Based on this, we discussed the strengths and limitations of the science-AI convergence class and made suggestions for science-AI convergence education. This study is expected to provide implications for developing science-AI convergence curricula and implementing them in the field.

  • This study is to search an optimal model on causal relationships of the motivations to learn and motivation strategy in chemistry education. The participants in this study are consisted of G and I high schools students (487) in Gwangju. They all answered to the questionnaire. Model I is hypothesized to be path model of the mediation between 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory of intelligence' and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency of motivation strategy' by goal orientation to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. And Model II is hypothesized path model of the mediation between goal orientation and 'learning strategy and self-handicapping tendency' by 'self-efficacy, achievement need, and entity theory' to explore variables of study effecting the motivation strategy. Based on these models, structural equation modeling techniques are used to evaluate for the path model among goal orientation(learning, performance approach, and performance approach goal orientation), self-efficacy, achievement need, entity theory of intelligence, self-handicapping tendency, and learning strategy in chemistry education. Effect of achievement goal directivity and self-regulated learning strategy on the level of learning achievement (성취목표지향성과 자기조절학습전략이 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study intended to find out an efficient teaching-learning method by identifying the effect of achievement goal directivity and self-regulated learning strategy on the level of learning achievement in class. This study analyzed the relationship between the achievement goal directivity and the average and standard deviation of self-regulated learning strategy as well as the relationship between the achievement goal directivity and the learning achievement of self-regulated learning strategy and also analyzed the effect of achievement goal directivity and self-regulated learning strategy on the level of learning achievement, based on the result of survey targeting 133 university students attending the Department of Social Welfare. The findings show that the higher the tendency of achievement goal directivity and self-regulated learning ability, the higher the academic performance, which means that it is necessary to resolve any anxiety through motivation control training and mentoring learning for academic achievement of students and inducing their proactive participation in class.

An interactive teachable agent system for EFL learners (대화형 Teachable Agent를 이용한 영어말하기학습 시스템)

  • In an environment where English is a foreign language, English learners can use AI voice chatbots in English-speaking practice activities to enhance their speaking motivation, provide opportunities for communication practice, and improve their English speaking ability. In this study, we propose a teaching-style AI voice chatbot that can be easily utilized by lower elementary school students and enhance their learning. To apply the Teachable Agent system to language learning, which is an activity based on tense, context, and memory, we proposed a new method of TA by applying the Teachable Agent to reflect the learner's English pronunciation and level and generate the agent's answers according to the learner's errors and implemented a Teachable Agent AI chatbot prototype. We conducted usability evaluations with actual elementary English teachers and elementary school students to demonstrate learning effects. The results of this study can be applied to motivate students who are not interested in learning or elementary school students to voluntarily participate in learning through role-switching.
