A Journey of an African American's Korean as a Second Language Learning in the Korean Community (한국 사회에서의 아프리카계 미국인 학생의 제 2언어로서의 한국어 학습과정)

  • This case study examines the experiences of an African American student's successful second language acquisition in Korea. There is an increasing number of multicultural families in Korea; but few research on African American students' second language learning. In the past, some American researchers have analyzed African American students as academic underachievers for learning and there is a scarcity of research on African American students' successfully acquiring a second language. With this qualitative research design, the researchers interviewed, and observed an African American girl named Mary. The researchers also interviewed Mary's mother, teacher, and peers about Mary's Korean language development. The results of this study revealed Mary's determined efforts to become a fluent Korean speaker with support from family, community and friends. Mary underwent unique social and systematic supports for her language development. This paper concludes with the educational implication for multicultural language learners in Korea and the possibility to diminish the common stereotypes of African Americans as underachievers.

Analysis of Learner Perceptions in Interdisciplinary Education Curriculum: An Exploration of Modular Education Utilizing Expectancy Theory (융합학문 교육과정의 학습자 인식 분석: 기대이론을 활용한 모듈형 교육 탐구)

  • With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, there is an increasing demand for interdisciplinary studies in the realm of university education. Accordingly, this study sought to explore learners' perceived expectation factors for a modular curriculum, one of the primary strategies for curriculum revision in interdisciplinary departments, by applying the Expectation Theory. Learners' perceptions were measured pre and post during the second semester of 2022. The results confirmed that among the expectation factors, the selection factor significantly decreased after the course compared to before. Changes in the understanding and perceived difficulty level of tool utilization within the course may have influenced these results. The significance of this study lies in providing direction for curriculum revisions in interdisciplinary departments by analyzing learners' perceptions of the modular curriculum. Specifically, curriculum design should focus on reducing difficulties and cognitive burdens associated with educational tool utilization. Furthermore, considering that students' prior experience and understanding of educational tools can impact educational outcomes, it is crucial to factor these elements when designing a modular curriculum.

  • Programming is excellent tool on realizing ideas. However students often complain of difficulties due to requiring the strict programming grammar and the highly thinking. Although various researches have been conducted to teach the programming easily for students, it should precede the analysis of what and why programming concept is difficult for learners. In this study, we analyzed what and why the programming concept is difficult for novice learners in basic programming education. Based on the results, we suggested: improving problem-solving skills based on accurate understanding and internalization on the programming concept, on reducing error between thought and execution results through the creation of sophisticated algorithms and on offering a variety of troubleshooting experience, establishing strategies to think freely for problem-solving process, and promoting the effectiveness of the learning through the learning procedure design.

The Interactive Learning Experience by Integrating Educational Robots into the Augmented Reality (교육용 로봇과 증강 현실 결합을 통한 인터랙티브 학습 경험)

  • This paper presents the effect of a interactive learning experience and student's response to technological components We develop the interactive learning environment and learning model in lessons relying on educational robots and augmented reality in the school classroom. The developed learning model is based on the problem-based learning model. The experiments of the study conduct with 18 students, the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ graders of an elementary school for 8 weeks using developed system. We find out the interactive learning experiences have an influence on the creative ability of children. We know that students who scored lower on the school exam scored higher on the score of creativity compared to top students through educational robots and augmented reality.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate operating practices of human resources nourishing institutions and analyze the degree of satisfaction to the e-learning learners in Busan. This study adopted a questionnaire method in research of 70 human resources nourishing institutions and 758 e-learning learners in Busan area for empirical analysis. Techniques used in analyzing data was frequency analysis. SPSS for windows programs were applied in the analysis. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, it is found that there is a widespread affirmative perceptions in the fields of both operating practices and satisfaction on e-learning. Second, however, it is also found that more efforts needed to be made in some areas such as method for effective e-learning and the management of programs, and more concerns should be need to the age group of fifty-over. These groups are short of understanding and acceptance of e-learning environment.

  • Training, unlike education in holistic perspective, not only affects individual's potential of work competencies such as knowledge and technology, but also affects the job performance in organizational perspective. The effectiveness of training for civil servants who participated in mock jury trial learning of Suwon-si was verified using CIPP model. Participants valued the significance of the process of training rather than the conclusion that draws a certain solution, and based on the comparison and analysis of pre·post evaluations, the educational effect of mock trial training and its utilization at work in the future was higher than before the training, proving its effectiveness. In terms of the implications of training programs in addition to the program planner's evaluation, participant constitution in consideration of sex or employment period is needed for learning interaction among various learners, and information acquisition training on various local issues and conflict situations, as well as the combination of deliberation learning, are needed. in addition, it may be supplemented through customized conflict management raining related to pending projects for the effectiveness of training.

  • The purpose of this study is to cultivate the educational competency of pre-librarians in the Department of Library & Information Science. To achieve this, first, the program is developed which is based by PBL(Project Based Learning) method for LIS education. Second, the questionnaire for education librarian self-efficacy is developed to measure the education librarian self-efficacy. Third, data were collected from 42 LIS undergraduate students at the beginning and end of the semester-long program during which it was adopted. The data were analyzed by paired t-test with SPSS. Analysis shows the program has a significant effect on the improvement of educational self-efficacy for pre-education librarians. Also, it is hoped that for this program will be applied to continuing education programs for education librarians and teacher librarians.

Development of Robot Programming Education System for Children based on Storytelling (초등학생을 위한 스토리텔링 기반 로봇 프로그래밍 교육 시스템)

  • By using robot programming curriculums, we are able to help the learners to improve academic achievement. But these curriculums reduce the level of participation, because most of the robot programming curriculums consists mainly of understanding simple grammatical sentences. Storytelling provides a variety of educational methods to improve logical thinking of children on their experiences and offers positive learning motivations to the learners. In this paper, we proposed the robot programming curriculum using storytelling and implemented the system to support it. By using this curriculum and visualization tools in this system, children can make a robot story and model easily with others. In addition, this robot programming curriculum and system can provide learning motivation and academic achievement to the children continuously.

  • 본 연구는 대학의 실시간 비대면 수업에서의 문제중심학습 수업모형 개발과 그 적용가능성 탐색을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 선행연구 및 문헌분석을 통해 문제중심학습의 특징 및 수업운영 전략 등에 대하여 고찰하고, 문제중심학습 수업운영 경험자 3인의 인터뷰를 통해 실시간 비대면 수업 상황에서 적용 가능한 수업모형을 개발할 것이다. 이를 문제중심학습 수업 운영 경험이 풍부한 5인의 전문가를 대상으로 수업모형의 적절성과 적용가능성에 대한 평가를 실시하여 실시간 비대면 수업에서 적용 가능한 문제중심학습 수업모형을 개발하고자 한다. 본 연구를 통해 학습자가 실시간 비대면 수업상황에서 주어진 문제 해결을 위해 협력하고 창의적 사고를 하며 주도적으로 학습에 임하게 함으로써 미래사회에 필요한 역량을 개발하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이라고 기대한다.

Analysis of the impact of learner characteristics on the achievement of programming (학습자 특성이 프로그래밍 성취도에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • It has been reported that programming education has a positive effect on 'improvement of problem solving skills' within the domain of information subject. Improvement of problem solving skills through education programming was confirmed through various variables, such as gender and programming method. This study aims to investigate the proper programming method of each learner by dividing the characteristics of learners according to their characteristics. To achieve our goal, we chose 62 S high school students enrolled in a programming class as the subjects of our study. The results of this study conveyed that project preference and gender can affect the achievement of the individual, whereas programming experience can affect the achievement of the team. This study provides suggestions of how to pursue a programming class according to learner characteristics as well as indicate which characteristics we should take into account.
