  • The purpose of this study is to develop a role play instruction model to increase higher-order thinking abilities in geographical education. This study reviewed the references which included the contents of higher-order thinking abilities, and discussed the educational significance and application of role play instruction model. The developed role play instruction model was applied to four classes in high school in Korea. After applying the model, this study asked some question about the model to the students which engaged in this model. Higher-order thinking essentially means thinking that takes place in the higher-levels of the hierarchy of cognitive processing. Higher-order thinking abilities contain critical thinking abilities, creative thinking abilities, problem solving and decision making abilities, meta-cognition abilities. The role play instruction model is an effective method which can increase higher- order thinking abilities. The questioning to students which engaged in the class of applying to role play instruction model provides feedback about development instruction models to increase higher-order thinking abilities.

  • Preservice teachers should learn the knowledge and skill necessary to meet intellectual, social and personal needs of students with culturally diverse background. Thus this study was to examine preservice teachers' attitudes and perception about multicultural education. The participants of the study comprised of 297 preservice teachers who were in the teacher preparation course. The questionnaire items consisted of 36 statements. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, correlation and t, F test. The results are as follows. First, on the basis of above, with respect to the reliability data, it is apparent that preservice teacher survey is adequate1y reliable. Second, needs of multicultural education and attitudes about cultural diversity of preservice teachers showed the positive correlation. Third, personal attitudes of preservice teachers about multicultural diversity were generally positive. Fourth, preservice teachers' expectation about the adequacy of curriculum in teacher preparation was low in compared with other factors. Attitudes about cultural diversity and attitudes preventing multicultural education showed the negative correlation. Based on this results, multicultural education should be reflected in the curriculum to meet diverse needs of preservice teachers. And teachers' attitudes and beliefs have an impact on their behaviors in the classroom, teachers preparation program for changes of their attitudes and beliefs should be developed.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the predictive power of the effect of pre-early childhood teachers' self-efficacy and ego resiliency on the SNS addiction tendency. To this end, a self - administered survey was conducted for 117 students in the first, second, and third grades of junior college of junior college in metropolitan area and multiple regression analysis was performed based on the collected data. The research findings showed that self-efficacy and ego resiliency had a negative effect on SNS addiction tendency. This suggests that self-efficacy and ego resiliency are statistically significant variables in predicting pre-early childhood teachers' SNS addiction tendency. These results also suggest that specific measures for enhancing self-efficacy and ego resiliency should be considered as precautionary measures to prevent SNS addiction of pre-early childhood teachers.

  • The emergent information society requires the talent for creative thinking based on problem-solving skills and comprehensive thinking rather than simple memorization. Therefore, the Korean curriculum has also changed into the direction of the creative thinking through increasing short-answer questions that can determine the overall thinking of the students. However, their scoring results are a little bit inconsistency because scoring short-answer questions depends on the subjective scoring of human raters. In order to alleviate this point, an automated scoring system using a machine learning has been used as a scoring tool in overseas. Linguistically, Korean and English is totally different in the structure of the sentences. Thus, the automated scoring system used in English cannot be applied to Korean. In this paper, we introduce an automated scoring system for Korean short-answer questions using predictability and unanimity. We also verify the practicality of the automatic scoring system through the correlation coefficient between the results of the automated scoring system and those of human raters. In the experiment of this paper, the proposed system is evaluated for constructed-response items of Korean language, social studies, and science in the National Assessment of Educational Achievement. The analysis was used Pearson correlation coefficients and Kappa coefficient. Results of the experiment had showed a strong positive correlation with all the correlation coefficients at 0.7 or higher. Thus, the scoring results of the proposed scoring system are similar to those of human raters. Therefore, the automated scoring system should be found to be useful as a scoring tool.

  • Objectives. Changes in lung function are frequently used as biological markers to assess the health effects of criteria air pollutants. We tried to formulate the prediction models of pulmonary functions based on height, weight, age and gender, especially for children aged 12 years who are commonly selected for the study of health effects of the air pollution. Methods. The target pulmonary function parameters were forced vital capacity(FVC) and forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1). Two hundreds and fifity-eight male and 301 female 12-year old children were included in the analysis after excluding unsatisfactory tests to the criteria recommended by American Thoracic Sosiety and excluding more or less than 20% predicted value by previous prediction equations. The weight prediction equation using height as a independent variable was calculated, and then the difference of observed weight and predicted weight (i.e. residual) was used as the independent variable of pulmonary function prediction equations with height. Results. The prediction equations of FVC and FEV1 for male are FVC(ml) = $50.84{\times}height(cm)+7.06{\times}weight$ residual 4838.86, FEV1(ml) = $43.57{\times}height(cm)+3.16{\times}weight$ residual - 4156.66, respectively. The prediction equations of FVC and FEV1 for female are FVC(ml) = $42.57{\times}height(cm)+12.50{\times}weight$ residual - 3862.39, FEV1(ml) = $36.29{\times}height(cm)+7.74{\times}weight$ residual - 3200.94, respectively.

  • The major results of the study are as follows: First, the accomplishement needs and academic self-efficacy enables students with start-up education through studying immersion and entrepreneurship to set up realistic objectives for personal life and resolving unpredictable problems. Second, creativity does not significantly affect studying immersion, but the higher the creativity of students participating in start-up education, the higher the entrepreneurship compare to studying immersion. Third, studying immersion has a significant impact on entrepreneurship, but has less impact on student's intention for start-up. Students with higher studying immersion through start-up education has higher entrepreneurship spirit and as a result, higher intention for start-up. Finally, the limitation of the study was that the sample was taken only from the freshman of Soonchunhyang University. Therefore, further study is needed for students from all university with start-up education.

  • In recent years, the subject of peer rejection in school settings has received increased attention in the massmedia and counseling literature. This study focused on the effect of individual and environmental factors on peer rejection. Dependent variable was the number of perpetrating peer rejection and independent variables were psychological, behavioral, familial factors, exposure of peer rejection and perception about school policies. Ordered Probit model was employed because of the nature of limited dependent variable. The data were collected from 714 middle-school student in Seoul. Major findings were as follows. First of all, the adolescents who has aggression and problematic behaviors in school were more likely to participate in peer rejection. Second, negative parent-children relationships and the family structure didn't have significant effects on peer rejection. And there were not a significant effect of attitude toward academic value and academic achievement on peer rejection. Third, environmental risk factors such as negative peer relationship and the exposure to rejection had a significant increasing effect on peer rejection. But consistent school policies didn't have a significant effect. In conclusion, this study confirmed that peer rejection in school settings was affected by school environment such as negative-peer relationship, and exposure to rejection. Therefore, comprehesive and systematic intervention programs should be required to ensure that all the pupils at school have a right to learn in a safe and fear-free environment.

  • This study was conducted to investigate whether the parental sodium intake and the sodium intake of adolescents are consistent with each other, to identify factors affecting sodium intake of adolescent children, and to measure sodium intake at home. For this study, 405 subjects in the National Health and Nutrition Survey of 2015 whose sodium intake was measured among nutritional intake were selected, excluding elementary school students, middle school students and high school students aged 7 to 18 years. The data were then matched with the father ID and the mother ID in the youth ID. The results of this study were as follows: ${\beta}=-0.187$ for male adolescents, ${\beta}=0.192$ for older adolescents, ${\beta}=0.153$ for higher adolescents, and sodium intake for adolescents. This is because the mother usually prepares meals in Korea. On the other hand, it is predicted that parents will not be able to consider the quality of their children due to the increased number of dual-income couples.

  • The purpose of the study is to structure the friendship network by the social network analysis and investigate the effects of social network centrality and learners' performances in college students. Both the in-degree centrality of 1st grade class study-network(t=2.722, P<.005) and the in-degree centrality of and $2^{nd}$ grade class study-network(t=2.708, P<.005)are predicted the individual student's learning performances. But there is no correlation between the in-degree centrality of $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ grade class entertainment-network and the individual student's learning performances. Results of the study suggested the significant effect of social network analysis measures on learners' performance in the friendship networks. Based on the results, implication to the teaching strategy and future research direction were discussed.

  • The PATROL instructional model only uses digital textbooks. PATROL is an acronym for Planning, Action, Tracking, Recommending, Ordering, and Leading. Teachers have a difficult time using current digital textbooks to determine how much time students spend using course materials. This is because current digital textbooks can only show the content of paper textbooks and display additional multimedia materials. In this study, digital textbook functions were designed based on the PATROL model in order to analyze students' learning situations, diagnose problems, and offer solutions. Digital textbook are based on learning analytics named SEE-PAD. SEE-PAD is composed of the following: Social network analysis; Evaluation and assEssment analysis; Predictive analysis; Adaptive learning analysis; and the analysis Dashboard. I drew and showed the use case and sequence diagrams of SEE-PAD to help design digital textbook functions.
