  • Most universities operate a mileage scheme that grants scholarships by converting students' extra-curricular activities into scores to encourage extra-curricular activities. This study seeks to understand the student experience of this mileage scheme, which universities are strategically providing to their students. For the purpose of the study, 16 students from universities where the mileage scheme is established were selected for in-depth interviews and the interview data was analyzed through consensual qualitative research methods. To secure the validity of research results, feedback was received from a reviewer regarding the appropriacy of areas and categories derived from the study. Ultimately, 3 areas of 'motivation behind participating in the mileage scheme', 'experience in the process of participating in the mileage scheme', 'impact of the experience after participating in the mileage scheme', and 18 categories were derived. This study is meaningful in that it focuses on the student experience of the university mileage scheme to present a review of the current university mileage scheme and suggest various implications for universities to consider when approaching the mileage scheme in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify elementary school teachers' perceptions, practices, and background factors related to introducing students' everyday experience in science teaching process. The participants of this study were four elementary school teachers who have different features such as major, teaching period, gender, growth area, and age. The data was collected through semi-constructed and in-depth interviews. The results of the research are as follows: Teachers mostly used students' everyday experience during the introduction phase of science lessons for the purpose of motivation. They hold a positive view of using students' everyday experience during science lessons and thought that science teaching needs to actively use more of students' everyday experience, while in actual practice they disregarded or only passively introduced students' everyday experience. The various background factors found to affect teachers' practice are as follows: positive memory on their science class; educational experience of their own children; their own childhood environment; their learning style; their insufficient knowledge or enthusiasm; perceived educational value of everyday life in science education; teacher's duties; importance of students' achievement; difficulty in guiding experiment; reaction of students on introducing everyday experience; characteristics of science textbook and teacher's guidebook; lack of lesson time; realization of national common basic education; characteristics of their students; demands from parents or students; effect of introducing everyday experience. In addition, we found that the teachers behave not in accordance with what they thought due to external factors related to their profession and that, for a more active use of students' everyday experience in their teaching, teachers need support from textbooks and teachers' guidebooks.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine correlation between smoking and gingivitis in boy students targeting 281 students in the 2nd grade for vocational boys' high schools where are located in Cheongju city. As a result of carrying out questionnaire research and oral examination, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. The smoking-experience rate in subjects of this study accounted for 59.4%. The current smoking rate was indicated to be 41.3%. Students' average gingivitis prevalence accounted for 61.5%. Out of those students, the students with experience of smoking accounted for 44.8%. The average gingivitis index was $0.20{\pm}0.27$. Out of those students, the students with experience of smoking were indicated to be $0.29{\pm}0.31$. 2. In case of having experience of smoking, the probability of having gingivitis was high(p = 0.000). The more drinking experience led to the higher gingivitis prevalence(p = 0.010). 3. In the multi-variate analysis, a case of gingivitis prevalence was higher in the group with experience of smoking by 5.5 times(p = 0.000) compared to the non-smoking group. A case that the smoking volume for a day is over 6 pieces was higher by 8.4 times(p = 0.000) compared to the non-smoking group. A case of being over 25 months in the smoking period was higher 13.2 times(p = 0.000) compared to the non-smoking group.

  • This study was done to explore the correlation among internet game addiction, family functioning, offense experience, victimization experience, possibility of peer violence and to identify factors related the possibility of peer violence. Participants were 789 elementary school students with survey. SPSS/WIN(20.0 version) were used to analyze the collected data. Internet game addiction was negatively correlated family functioning and was positively correlated the offense experience, victimization experience, possibility of peer violence. Multiple regression analysis showed the factors as offense experience of peer violence and relationship with teacher significantly accounted for 63.1% of the possibility of peer violence. In conclusion, it is need to health education for prevention of internet game addiction and breaking offense experience. The activating relationship with teachers are alternative plan that prevent to possibility of peer violence.

  • This study was conducted to investigate factors related to experience rate of low back pain(LBP) in the high school students, a questionnaire survey was carried out for 778 high school students in Andong city Kyungsang Pook province from 28th June to 10th July, 1993. The results were as follows: The experience rate of LBP for 778 high school students who were interviewed was 27.1 %. Unknown(47.4 %) was the highest in the cause of LBP. The experience rate of a academical high school students (57.8 %) was higher than the technical high school students(42.7 %) in association according to LBP and school division(P = 0. 001). The experience rate of 18 years old above students (60.2 %) was higher than 17 years old below school students(39.8 %%) in association between LBP and age(P = 0.031). The experience rate of students who go to bed at the hot floored bed (80.1 %) was higher than students who go to bed at the bed room (11.8 %) in association between LBP and room type(P = 0.012). The statisticaly significant variables related to LBP were school division, age and stress. It was revealed by this survey that independent variables related to LBP experience rate of high school students were important health problem. So the prospective research is need by those variables.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the mediative effects of students' relationship with parents or teachers in the effective path of school violence experience on depression, and to find out the path difference between elementary and middle school students. We used 1,385 students' data collected from the Korean Youth General Survey, and analyzed by multiple group analysis of structural equation. The results showed that elementary school students' relationship with parents or teachers did not play a mediative role. But the middle school students' relationship with parents or teachers play a negative mediative role. It means that if students were damaged by school violence, elementary school students' parents and teachers did not play a specific role but middle school students' parents and teachers caused more depression. Based on these results, some implications for parents and teachers about school violence and depression were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore 8th-grade students' imageries of the Earth. We analyzed the middle school students' imageries about the Earth represented with words and drawings in Earth Systems Understanding (ESU, hereafter) framework. The students' imageries about 'the Earth' are vary by their experiences and prior-knowledge, which significantly impacts their imagery construction. Especially, the students' ESU were characterized into two aspects: One is a macroscopic view point based on full-objects of the Earth by indirect experiences and the other is everyday view point based on scene of the Earth surface and environment by direct experiences. Results revealed students' imageries about the Earth were impacted by visual experiences and those students' ESU were more represented by drawing as visual imagery than by words, formal language. The negative imageries were mainly represented through interactions of the Earth subsystems.
