Study Improvement of the Evacuation Performance in a Double-Skin Structure (이중외피 구조 건축물의 피난성능 개선에 관한 연구)

  • This study examined an effective way of measuring the evacuation performance in buildings, which are applied to a double skin facade through an evaluation of the escape safety. Buildings with a double skin facade appeared to have a faster combustion expansion speed for the upper floor if a fire occurs. Moreover, a double skin facade is more difficult to escape safely than a general building construction because of the limited design standards. Accordingly, this study suggested virtual modeling including single emergency stairs and alarm systems considering the risk in each structure of buildings. These results showed that box-type double skin, corridor access type, shaft-box type, and multistory facade systems showed a 26.4%, 29.1%, 23.4%, and 26.3% increase in evacuation performance, respectively, as well as securing the safety of occupants.

  • 최근 고시원은 저렴한 방값을 원하는 저소득층의 서민들이 주거하는 공간으로서 불특정 다수가 사용하므로 방화의 위험성을 안고 있다. 본 조사는 이 위험성을 검토하기 위해 SIMULEX 실험을 통하여 고시원 화재시 피난행동을 간접적으로 확인 하고 대비 하는데 도움이 되고자한다. 모형실험 결과 재실자들이 1층 출구 대피시 병목현상을 보였지만 연기의 유동은 위로 상승하기 때문에 3층 재실자들의 빠른 대피가 있다면 인명피해는 없을 것으로 판단된다. 만약 이번 실험 조건이 사람들의 인지능력이 떨어지는 시간 조건을 주고 대피시간이 늦는다면 4, 5층의 재실자는 연기의 빠른 확산으로 인해 많은 인명피해가 발생할 수도 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • When a fire breaks out, it is frequent that large sized miserable death is happened by seriousness of poisonous gas and peculiarity of space because the building construction is recently more complex and diverse. So early countermeasure in preparation for evacuation escape linked directly with a loss of lives is pressing. Because escape light that mark fixing one-way of existing way is not efficiently extricated refugees from dangers when a fire breaks out, construction of system that can extricate refugees from dangers and suppress early a fire by grasping correctly fire point is required urgently. When a fire breaks out, all escape lights connected with fire sensor and reception group which have ill aiming in these point will lead people to safe emergency entrance of opposite direction of place that a fire is broken out after being calculated the direction and speed of flame and smoke. There is the purpose of my research in development of artificial intelligent directional escape light that can mark direction to most suitable pull-out and assist in early extinguishing a fire.

  • 2003년 대구지하철화재를 보면 각종 대형 화재사고에서 법정 피난유도(유도등, 조명등)만으로는 화재 시 발생하는 연기 및 정전에 의하여 피난방향을 유도할 수 없음이 증명되었으며, 건축 계획적 측면에서의 안전을 확보하였다 하더라도 비상시 유도 설비들이 유도성능을 제대로 발휘하지 못 할 경우에 화재 상황으로부터 피난의 위험성을 가지고 있다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 소방 설비의 의존이 필요치 않은 자체적인 발광이 가능한 축광 안전용품이 필요시 하게 되었으며, 이에 현재 사용하고 있는 기존의 축광제품은 휘도가 떨어져 사실상 그 효과가 미미하며, 이 문제점을 해결하고자 지속발광 가능한 축광소재를 개발 하고자 한다.

  • The risk of underground space become an important issue of life safety thought the Taeku subway line Accident. It is essential to study of smoke control screen to minimize the damage of human life because of smoke passage and passenger evacuation routes are on the same vertical and dispersion movement. The Fire modeling result shows the effect of fire control screen can save the evacuation time about 2-2.5 times compare to existing the system However, The designs of fire control screen need to be complied with smoke control ventilation system to present optimum design and the position of installation.

  • Apartment buildings have teen increasing it's height since first appearance in the late 1970 in Korea. Likewise, fire risk and the fire damage of this new dwelling type have become a serious problems. However the applying fire safety design method and regulations are minimum level of requirements based on the current fire codes. The purpose of this study is to figure out the evacuation characteristics in high-rise apartment buildings and improve countermeasure by comparison egress codes between Korea, Japan and U. S. A. The result shows that means of egress of this dwelling should be reviewed by the fire code as well as expected evacuation safety performance by a fire protection engineer to minimize fire 1osses including life safety.

  • A recent trend shows that more buildings are being constructed as mixed-use (residential and commercial) properties for efficient land use. This has led to an increased frequency in the occurrence of fires and the associated potential risks. In particular, in case of high-rise apartments, at least one of the elevators in each building is installed for evacuation purposes separately from the emergency elevator; therefore, for a combined ancillary room and emergency elevator platform situation, the structure is inevitably in series with the evacuation elevator platform. Thus, a proposal for a new type of ventilation zone based on existing national fire safety codes is required to achieve smoke control performance. To this end, the air egress velocity and differential pressure of each ventilation zone are checked using the "CONTAM" software; further, an alternative is proposed to secure smoke control performance for series structures.

  • Recently, the number of child care facility and social demand for high quality child care service increase suddenly. Especially, social atmosphere about fire safety is more sensitive in Korea. The majority of the residents in a child care facility are composed of early childhood having difficulty to evacuate, and therefore the number of stories of a building and the appropriateness of a evacuation equipment play an important role in the evacuation safety. In this study, problems and improvements for the evacuation safety are dealt with the present conditions of child care facilities, the comparative analysis between domestic and foreign standards, the research on the actual condition of evacuation equipments, and so on. The study brings to a conclusion that it is necessary to systematize the regulations regarding fire safety, to connect fire-fighting facilities for design standards and operations of emergency preparation equipments, to improve the regulations for fire protection system such as the sprinkler system, and to restrict the facilities having fire hazards.

  • It is critical that passengers should be given timely and correct escape or evacuation guidance from captain and crews when there are hazardous situations in a ship. Otherwise the consequences could be disastrous as "SEWOL Ferry" the South Korean passenger ship which sank in southern coastal area on 16th April 2014. Due to the captain's delayed evacuation decision and lack of sufficient number of crews to guide passengers' evacuation, the accident recorded many casualties, most of whom were high school students (302 passengers sank down with the ship while 172 rescued). Building a passenger ship with well-designed physical escape routes is one thing and guiding passengers to those escape routes in real disaster situation is another. Passengers get panic and move to a wrong direction, bottleneck makes situation worse, and even crews get panic also - passive static escape route signage and small number of trained crews might not be enough to take care of them. SESS (Smart Escape Support System) is being developed sponsored by South Korea Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries starting from 2016 with 4 years of roadmap. SESS comprises multiple active dynamic signage devices which communicate with real-time escape routing server software via LoRa (Long Range) proprietary wireless network.
