Recently, a large number of researches about concrete containing high volume fly-ash(HVFA) have been carried to obtain carbon dioxide reduction, resource recycle and durable option in concrete industry. The quality of fly-ash such as chemical composition and fineness has high variability due to the differences of used fuels, operation condition in power plant. The aim of this study is to investigate the performances of fly-ash cement mortar containing different type of fly-ashes. The basic analysis of fly ash such as chemical composition, SEM image analysis were performed. Many mortar specimens were fabricated to evaluate the properties (compressive strength, drying shrinkage and carbonation) of mortar with various fly ash. From the test results, the quality of each fly ash must be considered and fully weighted in fly ash concrete.

Recently, researches on High-Volume Fly ash Cement(HVFC), which is replacing high portion of cement to fly ash, have been actively conducted to reduce $CO_2$ formation. Though HVFC has various advantages, low strength development in early ages is pointed out as the biggest problem in the application of fly ash. In order to overcome such limitations, this study investigated the hydration and compressive strength characteristics of HVFC paste depending on the fly ash content with the mixing ratio varying from 0 to 80 %. Experimental results show that the HVFC paste with low water-binder ratio can overcome the limitation of low compressive strength at early ages. Also, from the result of heat flow delay, 50 % of fly ash weight ratio was the critical point of the filler effect.

In general, various factors such as grain size, chemical composition, amorphous amount, amorphous Si and Al content of fly ash affect the reaction with cement. In this study, we investigate the effect of fly ash particle characteristics on compressive strength. The standard sand was pulverized to a particle size similar to that of fly ash and the compressive strength was measured by blending with the cement as in fly. Using the measured compressive strength results, strength enhancement by cement hydration reaction and strength enhancement by particle filling effect were confirmed. Strength increment by pozzolanic reaction of fly ash was calculated by using the compressive strength results of mortar substituted with standard powder. As a result of comparison between compressive strengths and the particle characteristics of fly ash, the blaine showed a weak correlation with the compressive strength and the PI(Pozzolanic Index) showed good correlation with the 10% penetration diameter(D10) and the 50% Respectively. Therefore, it is expected that PI will be a good means to evaluate the fly ash characteristics together with the chemical characteristics of fly ash.

In this study, the characteristics of the cement mortar replaced with fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag generated during circulating fluidized bed combustion method and pulverized coal combustion process were investigated. As a result of the study, when mixed with circulating fluidized bed combustor fly ash and pulverized coal combustion fly ash, it is advantageous not only in terms of strength development but also in terms of durability. The circulating fluidized bed combustor fly ash contributes to the improvement of initial reactivity, and the pulverized coal combustion fly ash is involved in long-term strength development through pozzolanic reaction. Therefore, it can be seen that the mixed use of circulating fluidized bed combustor fly ash and pulverized coal combustion fly ash acts as a complementary factor for cement mortar substituted with ground granulated blast furnace slag.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the practical application potential and limitations of the modified fly ash(MFA) by vibration grinding as a partial replacement of ordinary portland cement(OPC). The test parameters investigated were the replacement level of fly ash(FA) and FA for OPC, varying from 10% to 40%, and curing temperatures of 5, 20, and 40℃. The various characteristics(including slump, air content, bleeding, setting time, compressive strength development, and hydration products) of MFA concrete were measured and then compared with those of the concrete with conventional FA. Test resul ts showed that the MFA prefers to FA in reducing the bl eeding of fresh concrete and enhancing the compressive strength gain at an early age. The compressive strength ratios between MFA and FA concrete specimens at an age of 1 day were 135%, 146%, and 111% at the curing temperatures of 5, 20, and 40℃, respectively. The corresponding ratios at an age of 28 days were approximately 110%, regardless of the curing temperatures. The X-ray diffraction analysis also revealed less calcium hydroxide products in MFA pastes than in FA pastes.

Several researches on high volume fly ash concrete have been conducted to investigate its fundamental material properties such as slump, strength and durability and however, research on the structural behavior of bond strength is essential for the application of this high volume fly ash concrete to structural members because of the necessity of reinforcement. But the exact design code for application and researches on the bond behavior of high volume fly ash concrete lack yet. To achieve such a goal, this paper evaluates experimentally the bond behavior of high volume fly ash concretes by direct pull-out test and compares between the current test results and existing research results. By the test results, it is shown that the bond behavior of high volume fly ash concrete is similar to that of general concrete. And by the comparison between test and existing research, it is shown that bond stress of high volume fly ash concrete is underestimated, as the embedment length gets longer.

In this study, strength development properties of high volume fly ash concrete was evaluated through compressive strength of concrete with reduction of unit water content. And concrete specimens were prepared according to target strength 3 level and variation of unit water content. As a result, the improved fluidity were obtained as a result of the ball bearing action of the spherical, the electrostatic repulsion and the particle size distribution of fly ash particles in case of using more than 50% fly ash. Through this, the mixture of fly ash has been shown to reduce the amount of water required in concrete. Also, the early strength of high volume fly ash concrete with reduction of unit water content was improved more about 66% than general concrete mixture.

The case of failure of Alkali-silica reaction (ASR) on the cement concrete pavement was reported in Korea. In the United States America, the fly ash has less than 10 percent Cao reported that prevent expansion by ASR. Most of all fly ash in Korea have less than 10 percent CaO, therefore it is similar ASTM F fly ash in the USA. Crushed aggregates of the test section had expansion behavior by potential ASR that the ASTM C 1260 test method tested expansion 0.17 percent during 14 days. The test section of concrete pavement used crushed aggregate was constructed that fly ash have 20 percent weight of cementitious materials to prevent expansion by ASR. This study was performed flexural strength test for elapsed days and durability by freeze-thaw test. It was shown that flexural strength was increased elapsed days and good performed freeze-thaw test. This study shown that fly ash concrete pavement was good performance in the test section.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash on the repaired mortar based on a polymer. The main parameters are the curing temperature and replacement levels of grinded fly-ash. The curing temperature and the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash are varied at $40^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $5^{\circ}C$, and between 0% and 35% of the total binder by weight, respectively. The flow in fresh mortar and compressive strengths according to ages, the relationship of stress-strain, elastic modulus and modulus rupture in hardened mortar, as well as scanning the electron microscopy and the X-ray diffraction of mortar, were measured, respectively. The test results showed that the flow, elastic modulus and modulus rupture are great in mortar specimens with 20~30% of the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash. In addition, compressive strengths according to ages were affected by the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash and the curing temperature indicated that the strength development ratio of mortar with 20% of the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash was greater than others. In the prediction of the compressive strength specified by the ACI 209 code, the strength development at an early and late age can be generalized by the functions of the replacement levels of grinded fly-ash and the curing temperature. In the analysis of scanning the electron microscopy and the X-ray diffraction, the number and intensity of peaks increased and the form of CSH gels on the surface of the particle of grinded fly-ash was observed.
