Analyzing the Relationship between Dynamic Capability of Project-Based Organization and the Competitive Advantage in the E&C Companies (프로젝트 조직의 동적역량과 건설기업 경쟁우위와의 상관관계 분석)

  • Since the beginning of a new century, many Korean construction and engineering companies are facing a very dynamic and fast changing business environment which includes severe competition, higher risk, economic depression, declining revenues and profits, etc. In order to cope with these challenges, they need to secure special capabilities to actively adapt to the paradigm changes. One of those capabilities could be project management capability which allows us to manage organizational resources dynamically and integratively based on project portfolio management concept. The objective of this study is to investigate how the dynamic capability of a project-based organization to control the resource affects the firm performance and the competitive advantages. Data was collected from the construction and engineering companies in South Korea by using survey questionnaire, and analyzed for empirical tests by using statistical methods such as structural equation modelling and path analysis. The results showed that the organizational resources, if they had the VRIN characteristics, would have positive impacts on creating the dynamic capabilities for project organization. In turn, the dynamic capabilities of a project organization would have impacts on improving business performance and creating competitive advantages. Also, it was found that the organizational resources may have direct impact on business performance and competitive advantages. The academic contribution of this study is that it attempts to integrate resource based view and the dynamic capability theory about creating competitive advantages for project based organization. This study also provided practical implications to the companies in construction industry by showing how to use organizational resources strategically to create competitive advantages.

  • In this study, the productivity factors of software maintenance are categorized into the three areas such as maintainer characteristics, software technical characteristics and maintenance environment characteristics. And the various regression analyses are performed for searching the most significant model by using actual project's data. At conclusion, an linear model including new variables derived from factor analysis to estimate the effort for software maintenance project is suggested.

  • Recently, construction industry demands have been changed by domestic construction circumstances such as high-technology, mega-projects, and the complexity of construction. In order to deal with the change of such a domestic construction circumstances, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT) has introduced advanced delivery methods (i..e, CM, DB, etc.). However, the advantages and disadvantages of the advanced delivery methods have not been effectively applied for previous projects. The reason for this is that the "Reviewing Standard for the Large-scale Construction Bidding Method" has not reflected enough project characteristics when the delivery method is selected in the project planning phase. Therefore, this paper proposes the model for selecting criteria of delivery method based on project characteristics in the Multi-housing projects.

  • This study is to find out how to improve the efficiency of game development by analyzing the effects of the characteristics of game development organization on game development performance. The characteristics of the game development organization were set as independent variables, consisting of game project management characteristics, PM characteristics, game development team characteristics, and organizational culture. Game performance is divided into game project performance and game development final performance. As a result, the characteristics of the four game development organizations were found to be a significant factors in the game project performance and game development final performance. This study suggests that the environment that can focus on game development and appropriate management education for managers are needed to enhance the competence of members in game development team.

  • The long-term purpose of Military Acquisition Program Management (MAPM) is to fulfill requested performance, budget, and timing of military capability building. The Defense Acquisition Program Administration was established in 2006 and it adopted Integrated Control System. Moreover, there have no much studies done to examine the condition of Defense Capability Improvement Project in Korea through an empirical research although there are sixty one organizations are operating currently under Defense Capability Improvement Project. The objective of this study is to recognize Military Acquisition Program Management as a single project and to critically review relationship between Critical Success Factors (CSF) and Military Acquisition Program Management. Accordingly, three determinants to lead to successful Military Acquisition Program Management are "Communication" "User Participation" and "User Requirement." This study also demonstrates that Critical Success Factors have distinctive influences on successful Military Acquisition Program Management based on characteristic, size and phase of project. In retrospect, it is meaningful that Integrated Project Team (IPT) could classify priority of management according to characteristic, size and phase of project in the course of implementation.

  • A project learning is the model to solve the problem in cooperation with the members of a group. The purpose of this study is to make a new learning model using a web on the traditional project learning model. A Web has the proper nature for students to make their learning environment, so that this study embodied Student Directed Web based project learning system to allow them to expand their abilities. All action of students, that is, suggesting main subject, making plans, activating and adjusting them, and evaluation can be happened in this system. According to the result of applying the system, participants in Students Directed Web based Project Learning intend to implement learning activities more positively, affirmatively and cooperatively than the existing ones.

  • Crowd Sourcing-based Social App Manufacturing environment, a small app development project by a team of anonymous virtual performed without the constraints of time and space, and manage it for the app development process need to be automated method. Virtual teams with anonymity is a feature of the Social App Manufacturing, is an important factor that increases the uncertainty of whether the completion of the project or reduction in visibility of the progress of the project. In this study, as one of how to manage the project of Social App Manufacturing environment, the impact of risk that can be used to quantitatively measure the impact of the risk of delay in development has on the project also proposes a measurement model. Effects of risk and type of the impact of risks associated with delays in the work schedule also define the characteristic function, measurement model that has been proposed, suggest the degree of influence measurement equation of risk of the project in accordance with the progressive. The advantage of this model, the project manager is able to ensure the visibility of the progress of the project. In addition, identify the project risk of work delays, and to take precautions.

A Study on Problems and Improvements for Application of MDMS (Message Definition and Management System) (메시지 정의 및 관리시스템(MDMS) 적용의 문제점 및 개선방안 연구)

  • 많은 개발자가 참여하는 대형 소프트웨어 시스템 개발의 효율성 증대를 위해서는 컴포넌트 간 인터페이스의 효과적인 관리가 필수적이다. MDMS는 컴포넌트간의 인터페이스 정의 및 변경 이력 관리, 인터페이스 기술서 자동 생성, 소스 코드 자동 생성 등의 기능을 제공하는 도구이다. 한화탈레스는 1998년 MDMS를 처음 개발하여 적용한 이후 다양한 국방 소프트웨어 시스템 개발에 적용하여 소프트웨어 개발 생산성 향상에 효과를 보았다. 하지만, MDMS를 다양한 프로젝트에 적용하는 과정에서 최초 개발시 고려하지 못했던 여러 문제점 및 한계를 발견하였다. 이러한 문제점 및 한계는 다양한 프로젝트의 특성 지원 미흡, 형상관리 및 유지보수 문제, 프로젝트 간 메시지 재사용 미지원, 취약한 보안 등 이다. 본 논문에서는 이를 해결하기 위하여 네가지 개선방안을 제시한다. 첫 번째, 다양한 프로젝트에 적용이 가능한 유연한 SW 구조로 개선해야 한다. 두 번째, 통일되고 일관된 형상관리와 함께 전담 개발 및 유지보수 조직이 필요하다. 세 번째, 프로젝트간 메시지의 재사용 지원을 위한 방안으로 프로젝트 별 MDMS 운용이 아닌 통합된 MDMS의 운용이 필요하며, 그를 통하여 다른 프로젝트의 인터페이스 정의를 상호 참조할 수 있는 구조를 적용해야 한다. 마지막으로, 외부 협력업체와의 협업을 위한 보안 대책을 수립하고, 관련 보안 기능을 지원하여 사외의 협력업체의 개발자가 직접 MDMS에 접속하여 개발할 수 있도록 개선해야 한다.

A R&D Project Evaluation Model Based on Multi-attribute Utility (다 속성 효용이론을 이용한 R&D 프로젝트의 평가 모델의 연구)

  • 본 연구는 연구·개발 프로젝트의 평가를 위하여 연구·개발 프로젝트의 다-속성(Multi-attributes)을 고려하한 평가 모델의 연구이다. 이를 위하여 우선 평가구조를 구축하고 각 속성별 평가를 종합하기 위한 종합성과도(Total Preference Index)로 단일 측정치로 평가 할 수 있도록 종합하기 위한 적절한 효용함수를 도입하여 사용하였다. 이러한 평가 과정을 다-속성 의사결정 모델(Multi-attribute Utility Model)로 통합하였으며 연구·개발프로젝트의 특성을 고려하여 각 연구실의 책임자(Laboratory Directors)의 평가체계를 개발하여 본 평가모델에 포함하였다. 본 평가모델의 시험 적용을 위하여 특정 연구소에 시험적용하고 그 결과를 보였으며, 부분적으로 보완 연구될 경우 일반적인 프로젝트의 평가모델로 활용될 수 있으리라 생각된다.
