Involvement of Polyamines in the Control of Senescence in Lemna gibba G3 Fronds (Lemna gibba G3의 노화조절에 대한 폴리아민의 관여)

  • Exogenously applied spermine, spermidine and putrescine caused a delay of senescence in fronds Lemna gibba G3 under continuous illumination. When the proximal half of a frond containing the meristematic“pockets”was removed, endogenous spermidine level in the distal half (half frond) increased initially to a miximal level, which was followed by a decline during a period of 10 days of incubation in light. No appreciable changes were observed with putrescine or spermine levels. Treatment of fronds with $\alpha$-difluromethylarginine (DFMA) resulted in both reduced level of spermidine and enhancement of chlorophyll loss in half fronds. $\alpha$-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) was found to be virtually ineffective in either parameter. Results of experiments with ABA and kinetin indicate that there is a close correlation between the progress of senescence and spermidine level in Lemna fronds under illumination. It is suggested that endogenous level of spermidine is associated, at least in part, with frond senescence in this aquatic plant.

Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(urethane-ethyl acrylate) Hybrid Emulsion (폴리(우레탄-에틸 아크릴레이트) 혼성 에멀젼의 합성과 물성 비교 연구)

  • Poly(urethaneethyl acrylate) hybrid emulsions were synthesized to improve their thermomechanical and solvent resistance properties. In the synthesis, dimethylol propionic acid was used to impart hydrophilicity to the hybrid polymers, and ethyl acrylate monomer was added to the polyurethane prepolymer after neutralization with triethylamine. After dispersion of the neutralized prepolymer, chain extension was carried out with ethylene diamine. Consequently, poly(urethaneethyl acrylate) hybrid emulsion was prepared via soap free emulsion polymerization of ethyl acrylate with reduction-oxidation initiator couple of t-butyl hydroperoxide/sodium bisulfite at $50^{\circ}C$. Tehsile strength, 100% modulus, elongation, and solvent-resistance properties of the hybrid emulsion were measured and compared with those of polyurethane homopolymer, poly(ethyl acrylate) homopolymer, and simple blended samples.

  • The effects of antioxidants and thermal treatment on the radiation resistance of the gamma-ray irradiated polypropylene (PP) were studied. The PP was blended with various antioxidants and was fabricated into a sheet. The PP sheet was irradiated with gamma-ray to a dosage of 25kGy in the nitrogen atmosphere. The differences in both color and mechanical strength were investigated for the gamma-ray irradiated PP depending on the kind and the content of antioxidant. The residual amount of free radical and the variation of oxidation index were investigated for the gramma-ray irradiated PP with thermal treatment after irradiation. The PP having phosphite antioxidant showed little difference in color after gamma-ray irradiation compared with the PP having phenolic or mine antioxidant. Sufficient amount of free radical could be removed from the gamma-ray irradiated PP by the thermal treatment at $130\;^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Thermally treated PP showed lower oxidation index than the PP without thermal treatment.

Characteristic Polypropylene Filter Coated by Titania Sol (티타니아 솔로 코팅된 폴리프로필렌 필터의 특성)

  • In this study, we coated the polypropylene filter with titania sol and investigated various characteristic such as its deodorization efficiency and sterilization effect of gram negative bacillus Escherichia coli(ATCC 25922) and gram positive bacillus Staphylococcus aureus(ATCC 6538). As the results, in case of titania sol coated polypropylene filter, the deodorization rate of ammonia, trimethylamin and acetic acid which cause indoor air pollution was 66%, 90% and 16% respectively. Also. the sterilization rate of gram negative bacillus Escherichia coli(ATCC 25922) and gram positive bacillus Staphylococcus aureus(ATCC 6538) was 99.9% after 24 hours.

  • Novel adhesive polyaspartamides containing catechol and primary amine pendent groups were synthesized through successive ring-opening aminolysis reactions of dopamine (DOP) and ethylenediamine (EDA) with polysuccinimide (PSI). The oxidative gelation of aqueous dopamine-modified polyaspartamide was observed by adding $NaIO_4$ as the oxidizing reagent. FTIR, UV-vis and oscillatory rheometry was used to elucidate the oxidative cross-linking toward gel formation. The prepared gel was characterized by the swelling degree, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM).

Dyeing Properties of Ultrafine Nylon Fiber and PU Mixture Fabric (나일론 극세사와 PU 복합소재의 염색 특성)

  • 본 연구에서는 해도형 나일론 극세사 제품의 알칼리 용출 및 염색특성에 대한 고찰과 인공피혁, 스웨이드 조직 편물 등의 목적으로 함께 쓰이게 될 폴리우레탄과의 혼방 제품의 염색성 향상에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 먼저, 해도형 나일론 극세사의 알칼리 용출거동을 확립하기 위해 NaOH 농도 및 온도에 따른 감량 특성을 확인하였으며, Red 색상의 산성염료와 반응성 염료 타입에 따른 염색특성 및 세탁 견뢰도 등을 고찰하였다. 또한, 폴리우레탄의 염착성을 향상시키기 위해 폴리우레탄 합성시 고분자 말단에 아민기를 함유하는 시료에 대한 염색성을 고찰하고, 폴리우레탄 함침 소재로서 쓰이는 인공피혁을 제조하여 염색 특성을 알아보았다. 해당 연구를 통하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 해도형 초극세사의 알칼리 용출의 경우 $90^{\circ}C$에서 30분 유지시키는 것이 가장 적절한 조건이었으며, pH에 따른 염색성의 경우 레벨링 타입 염료와 반응성 염료의 경우 4~5, 밀링 타입과 함금속 염료의 경우는 5~6정도의 pH에서 우수한 염색성을 나타내었다. 산성염료의 경우 염색온도와 시간이 증가함에 따라 초극세사에 염착된 염료들은 이면의 일반 나일론사로 이동하는 현상이 증가하였지만 반응성 염료의 경우는 이러한 이염 현상이 나타나지 않았다. 한편, 농도가 증가함에 따라 산성염료는 우수한 빌드업성을 나타내는데 반해 반응성 염료는 4% owf이상에서는 염착량이 증가하지 않았으나, 세탁 견뢰도의 경우 반응성 염료로 염색된 시료가 가장 우수한 견뢰도를 나타내었다. 그리고 앞선 모든 염색실험에 있어서 일반 나일론사보다는 초극세사의 염착률이 더 높았고, 겉보기 색농도는 낮게 나타나는 현상을 확인할 수 있었다. 한편, 나일론/폴리우레탄 혼방제품에서 쓰이는 일반적인 폴리우레탄(RPU)과 아민 함량이 높은 폴리우레탄(APU)의 염색성을 알아본 결과 APU의 염색성이 훨씬 우수하였고, RPU에서 나타나는 현상인 염색의 진행에 따른 염료의 탈리가 나타나지 않았으며 견뢰도 또한 우수하였다. 인공피혁의 염색에서는 함침에 사용된 폴리우레탄 수지의 구조에 따라 염색성이 달라지는 현상을 확인하였으며, 특히 반응성 염료를 사용할 경우 인공피혁에서 일반적으로 문제가 되는 견뢰도 저하의 현상이 나타나지 않았다.

Effects of Diniconazole Application on Anatomical and Biochemical Characteristics Related to Stress Tolerance in Lilum davuricum (날개하늘나리에 있어서 디니코나졸 처리가 스트레스 내성과 관련된 해부학적 및 생화학적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to examine the effects of foliar-sprayed diniconazole on the morphological characteristics and the contents of polyamines (PA) and proline, and to investigate their relationship with stress tolerance in Lilium davuricum native to Korea. Plants with 5 cm mean height were sprayed with $50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ diniconazole or distilled water (control) and grown in a greenhouse maintained at 23/$18^{\circ}C$ (day/night) for 30 days. Diniconazole decreased plant height, leaf length, diameter and length of the pith and cortical cell of the stem, while it increased the thickness and epicuticular wax of leaves measured at 30 days after treatment. In polyamines contents, diniconazole increased spermidine content at 5-10 days after treatment and spermine content after the 10th day of treatment as compared with the control. Diniconazole decreased proline content after the 10th day of treatment as compared with the control. From these results, it was concluded that foliar-sprayed diniconazole might morphologically and biochemically improve the stress tolerance of this plant species.

Characterization of Gas Permeation Properties of Polyimide Copolymer Membranes for OBIGGS (OBIGGS용 공중합체 폴리이미드를 이용한 기체분리막의 투과 특성평가)

  • We synthesized novel polyimides with high gas permeability and selectivity for application of on board inert gas generation system (OBIGGS). 2,2-bis(3,4-carboxylphenyl) hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) and two kinds of amines with high permeability and solubility were used to prepare the novel polymide. 2,3,5,6-Tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (TMPD) was used to improve gas permeability and various kinds of diamines were used to improve the gas selectivity respectively. The polyimide copolymers were synthesized by commercial chemical imidization method and their average molecular weights were over 100,000g/mol. The glass temperature ($T_g$) and the thermal degradation temperature were characterized using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The synthesized copolymers showed high $T_g$ over $300^{\circ}C$ and high thermal degradation temperature over $500^{\circ}C$. The gas permeation properties were measured by time-lag equipment. Although general polyimides showed very low gas permeability, synthesized polyimide copolymer showed high $O_2$ permeability of 36.21 barrer with high $O_2/N_2$ selectivity around 4.1. From this result, we confirm that these membranes have possibility to apply to OBIGGS.

A Study on the Compatibilization of Blends Based on Poly(phenylene ether) and Polyamide (Poly(phenylene ether)/Polyamide 블렌드의 상용화에 관한 연구)

  • Compatibilization of blends based on poly(phenylene ether) (PPE) and polyamide (PA) has been practiced with the incorporation of a copolymer formed by grafting polystyrene onto polybutadiene latex (g-BS) which is further functionalized with maleic anhydride (MAH) (g-BS*) to impart reactivity with amine groups of PA. The major focus has been placed on the effect of the various structural factors in g-BS8 on the phase morphology and mechanical performance of the blends. For the balance of impact strength and heat resistance, it was important to locate g-BS n particles inside of the PPE phase, which was accomplished by the proper control of the molecular weight and amount of PS in g-BS*. For g-BS*'s having constant molecular weight and amount of PS, the reduction of MAH content or increase of rubber particle size in g-BS* resulted in the increase of domain size and consequently loss in mechanical properties. Based on the comparison made with the conventional PPE/PA blend comprising MAH grafted PPE as a compatibilizer, it was confirmed that the comparable level of mechanical performance can be achieved by an appropriate g-BS* type material with improved whiteness index.

Preparation and Characterization of Polyamide Thin Film Composite Reverse Osmosis Membranes Using Hydrophilic Treated Microporous Supports (친수성 처리된 다공성 지지체를 이용한 폴리아마이드 박막 역삼투 복합막 제조 및 특성 분석)

  • It is very well known that the conventional polyamide (PA) thin film composite (TFC) reverse osmosis (RO) membranes have excellent permselective properties, but their chlorine tolerance is not good enough. In this study, to improve such chlorine tolerance, microporous membranes containing hydrophilic functional groups such as -COOH were used as a support to prepare PA TFC RO membranes, employing the conventional interfacial polymerization method. Meta-phenylene diamine (MPD) and 2,6-diamine toluene (2,6-DAT) were used as diamine monomers and tri-mesoyl chloride (TMC) as an acid monomer. The membranes prepared were characterized using various instrumental analytical methods and permeation test set-up. The flux obtained from the membranes prepared so was more than $1.0m^3/m^2day$ at 800 psi of operating pressure, while the salt rejection was over 99.0%. The chlorine tolerance of them was also found to be better than that of the membrane prepared by using conventional polysulfone support without hydrophilic functional groups.
