Numerical simulation is the most widely used methods for evaluating blasting performance. This study, conducted the numerical analysis of shock chamber model to evaluate the pressure confine effect of the stemming material and plug device. The stemming effect was compared and evaluated with that of the STF-based stemming material currently under development and sand, which is a commonly used blast stemming material. Furthermore, to verify of enhancement the confine effect inside blast hole pressure, three types of stemming plugs were adopted for the numerical analysis. The numerical simulation results revealed that the STF-based stemming materials were superior to the general stemming material. Also, It is evaluated that the STF-based stemming and Plug system can not only prevent detonation gas from overflowing the borehole prematurely, but also prolong the action time and scope of detonation gas in the borehole effective.

The present work has been developed the study of interpretation of separation behavior in gas expansion separation(GES) bolt which has the separation characteristic without fragmentation and minimum pyre-shock during the operation of the explosive bolt. In order to obtain the performance of minimum pyro-shock, the present work used non-compressive material instead of separation explosives. The use of the interpretation processor could be extensively helped to design the shape and the amount of explosives in the explosive bolt having complex geometry, and to analyse the separation behavior during the operation. It is also proved that the GES bolt is the most suitable the separation system necessary to minimum pyro-shock and non fragmentation compare to others.
One of the way to derive design parameters of the fuel feeding system in satellite propulsion system is to analyze unsteady flow of liquid propellant (hydrazine). During steady thruster firing the flow rate is constant: if a thruster valve is abruptly shut down among a set of thrusters, pressure spikes much higher than the initial tank pressure occur. This renders the fuel flow unsteady, and the fluid pressure and flow rate to oscillate. If the pressure spikes are high enough, there are possibilities that propellant explosively decomposes, thruster valves we damaged, and adiabatic detonation of the hydrazine propellant is potentially incurred. Reflected shockwaves could also affect the calibration and operation of the pressure transducers. These necessitate the analysis of unsteady flow in the propulsion system design, and pressure behavior inside the propellant line obtained through some governing parameter variation is presented in this work.
Recently, as construction technology improved, concrete structures not only became larger, taller and longer but were able to perform various functions. However, if extreme loads such as impact, blast, and fire are applied to those structures, it would cause severe property damages and human casualties. Especially, the structural responses from extreme loading are totally different than that from quasi-static loading, because large pressure is applied to structures from mass acceleration effect of impact and blast loads. Therefore, the strain rate effect and damage levels should be considered when concrete structure is designed. In this study, the low velocity impact loading test of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) slabs including 0%~1.5% (by volume) of steel fibers, and strengthened with two types of FRP sheets was performed to develop an impact resistant structural member. From the test results, the maximum impact load, dissipated energy and the number of drop to failure increased, whereas the maximum displacement and support rotation were reduced by strengthening SFRC slab with FRP sheets in tensile zone. The test results showed that the impact resistance of concrete slab can be substantially improved by externally strengthening using FRP sheets. This result can be used in designing of primary facilities exposed to such extreme loads. The dynamic responses of SFRC slab strengthened with FRP sheets under low velocity impact load were also analyzed using LS-DYNA, a finite element analysis program with an explicit time integration scheme. The comparison of test and analytical results showed that they were within 5% of error with respect to maximum displacements.

The present study introduces a calibration method of the CSC model implemented in the LS-DYNA program for considering the material properties of ultra-high performance concrete(UHPC). Based on previous experimental studies, various parameters, which constitute three shear failure surfaces, pressure-volumetric strain curve, fracture energy, dynamic increase factor(DIF), and so on, are modified. Then, the proposed calibration method is verified by comparing the numerical result with the experimental data through the single element analysis. In addition, based on the established finite element models, the applicability of the calibrated CSC model is examined for UHPC structures subjected to impact and blast loadings.

Submarines, which have been called an invisible force, are strategic underwater weapon systems that perform missions such as anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and high payoff target strikes with the advantage of underwater covertness. A submarine should be able to withstand the hydrostatic pressure of the deep sea. In this respect, the submarine pressure hull, as the main structural system to resist the external pressure corresponding to the submerged depth, should ensure the survivability from hazards and threats such as leakage, fires, shock, explosion, etc. To do this, the initial scantling of the submarine pressure hull must be calculated appropriately in the concept design phase. The shape of the aft transition ring varies according to its connection with the submarine aft end conical structure, pressure hull cylindrical part, and non-pressure hull of the submarine; the design of the aft transition ring should not only take into account stress flow and connectivity but also the cost increase due to the increased man-hours of its complex geometry. Therefore, trade-off studies based on the four different shapes of the aft transition ring are carried out considering both the review of the structural strength through nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) and economic feasibility by reviewing the estimations of the manufacturing working days and material costs. Finally, the most rational structural aft transition ring shape for a submarine amongst four reviewed types was proposed.

Penetrator with enhanced lateral effect (PELE) is a novel projectile that does not require dynamite and a fuse. It comprises a high-density jacket that is closed at its rear end and filled with a low-density filling material. To study the explosion characteristics of PELE using AUTODYN-3D code, the calculation models of the projectile body and the bullet target were developed and the process of penetrating an aluminum-2024 alloy target using PELE was simulated. The scattering characteristics after PELE penetrated the aluminum-2024 alloy target were studied for different filling materials. The explicit finite element analysis of PELE fragmentation was implemented with the stochastic failure criterion in AUTODYN-3D code. As the filling expanded, the fragments gained velocity and dispersed laterally, increasing the damage area considerably. The number and shape of PELE fragments differed depending on the impact pressure of the filling that fragmented during the penetration and lateral dispersion processes.
Blast injuries in a compartment are investigated, and the effects of obstacles on blast injury are particularly analyzed by comparing injuries in the compartments with or without protruding obstacles inside. Even if blast pressure profile tends to be complicated in a confined space unlike in open field, it can be obtained in a relatively short time by using some empirical fast running models for simple confined spaces. However, a finite element method should be employed to obtain blast pressure profiles in a case with obstacles in confined spaces, because the obstacles heavily disturb blast waves. On the other hand, Axelsson SDOF(Single degree of freedom) model and ASII(Adjusted severity of injury index) injury level are employed to estimate blast injury in compartments, because the usual pressure-impulse injury criterion based on the ideal Friedlander waves in open the field cannot be applied to personnel in a confined space due to complexity of blast waves inside. In cases with obstacles, chest wall velocity was reduced by 26 to 76 percent(%) and the personnel injury in the compartment caused by blast was also reduced.

Piper Alpha disaster drew attention to the damage likely to arise from explosions and fires on an offshore platform. And great concerns have been increased to prevent these hazards. Blast wall is one of the passive safety systems; it plays a key part of minimizing the consequences. However, a buckling due to explosion loads is a factor which can reduce the strength of blast wall. The buckling often occurs between web and flange at the center of blast wall. This study aims to find a solution for reinforcing its strength by installing a flat plate at the spot where the buckling occurs. First of all, ANSYS finite element method is adopted to numerically compute the structural resistance characteristic of blast wall by using a quasi-static approach. Sequentially, the impact response characteristics of blast wall are investigated the effect on thickness of flat plate by using ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Finally, pressure-impulse diagrams (P-I diagram) are presented to permit easy assessment of structural response characteristics of stiffened blast wall. In this study, effective use is made to increase structural intensity. of blast wall and acquired important insights have been documented.
