  • By reviewing relatively recent theory of coercive control, which considers gender as a key concept to conceptualize domestic violence, this article explores battered women's experiences with police responses and institutional law enforcement. Using data and interviews from Korea Women's Hotline, this article analyzes the effects of state intervention which fails to support battered women and sends a message to the community that domestic violence is not such a serious crime. Specifically, this study found some problematic responses and attitudes of police and legal system: first, police is equating domestic violence with physical attacks or serious harms. Second, police and law enforcement personnel blame victims based on her gender performance or gender roles. Third, by individualizing the problem of domestic violence, state intervention ignores important structural factors that cause and perpetuate it. Finally, police and the justice system disempower and discourage battered women by exacerbating victim's fears and risks. Viewing domestic violence as a liberty crime, this study concludes that enhanced understanding of the nature of domestic violence only can contribute to solving the problem and protecting women's human rights.

A questionnaire was distributed and collected to a total of 161 female students enrolled in four departments of U University. Frequency and percentage, correlation analysis, simple regression analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were performed, and the Sobel test was performed to verify the significance of the indirect effects. Findings First, it was found that female university students' perception of dating violence had a negative effect on the behavior of victims of dating violence, and the explanation power was 5%. Second, violence tolerance was found to have a positive effect on the behavior of all dating violence victims, and the explanatory power was 12%. Third, in the first stage, female university students' perception of dating violence significantly explained the tolerance of violence. When violence tolerance was introduced in step 4, the influence of dating violence perception on the victimization behavior of dating violence decreased, but it was not significant. That is, violence tolerance showed a partial mediating effect in the effect of dating violence perception on dating violence victim behavior. • Purpose: This study is to investigate factors affecting depression in nursing students. Methods: A survey was conducted with 216 nursing students in college at P city, D city, and K province. Data was collected from April 15 to May 21, 2018, and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and hierarchical regression with IBM SPSS Statistics 24.0. Results: There was a significant positive correlation between verbal violence and depression(r=.261, p<.001), between physical threat and depression(r=.291, p<.001). Also, Self-esteem had a significant positive correlation with resilience(r=.685, p<.001) and negative correlation with depression(r=-.590, p<.001). Moreover, resilience had a significant negative correlation with depression(r=-.612, p<.001). In the hierarchical analysis, factors affecting the nursing students' depression were resilience(${\beta}=-.337$, p<.001), self-esteem(${\beta}=-.279$, p<.001), physical threat(${\beta}=.177$, p=.001). The variable that had the highest impact on depression was resilience and the explanatory power of the regression model was 51.5%(F=17.965, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the major factors influencing nursing students depression are physical threat, self-esteem and resilience. Therefore, it suggests that an intervention program will be required to prevent violence during the clinical practice, enhances self-esteem and improves resilience in order to reduce depression of nursing students.
