Designing a decision making system of inferring reasonable $O_2$Quantity needed to process wastewater via biological reaction (생물학적 하수처리에 소요되는 적정 폭기량의 판단 시스템 설계)

  • This paper presents a decision making technique of reasonable $O_2$quantity needed to resolve organic matter via microbe in wastewater treatment. Decision making system of inferring reasonable $O_2$quantity consists of three parts. The first part is to compute reasonable $O_2$quantity with given process data. The second part is to find output features of processed wastewater using process model when $O_2$quantity is changed to a value inferred from decision making system. The third part is to show the results of decision making system. In order to verify performance of proposed decision making system computer simulation was done with process data gathered during 40 days. Simulation result shows that $O_2$quantity can be reduced over 10% under the condition of satisfying the specifications for processed wastewater.

  • The Intermittent Aeration MBR systems have the advantage of controlling reaction time by changing aeration period and are one of economic BNR systems since these processes do not require MLSS recirculation that demands capital and operation costs. In this study, two intermittent aeration MBR systems were studied by computer simulation: an intermittent aeration MBR system that had both 1hr/1hr and 4hr/4hr aeration/unaeration periods at intermittent reactor and NEW INTERMITTENT-process that was an energy saving process and certified as a new process by Korean government. Since DO concentration reached only at 0.23mg/L at intermittent reactor when it was aerated, the Intermittent aeration MBR system having 1hr/1hr aeration/unaeration period showed simultaneous nitrification/denitrification and had the highest nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiencies that were 57% and 55%, respectively. Since this study was based on the constant influent flow and characteristics, more studies are needed to define the operational characteristics of intermittent aeration MBR systems under dynamic influent conditions.

  • Dissolved oxygen (DO) refers to the volume of oxygen that is contained in water, and is a major indicator of water quality. The objective of this paper was to investigate the effect of salinity on the dissolved oxygen characteristics in an ejector-aerator. An experimental aeration system composed of a motor-pump, an ejector, a motor-blower, a set of aeration and recirculation tank and a control panel. The dissolved oxygen concentrations decreased with the water salinity. The volumetric mass transfer coefficient increased with increasing the water salinity.

  • In recent years, the crisis of energy is growing seriously and also the contamination of ecology has been reverberated as international problem. The social concerns on energy crisis have been growing for the last several years and also the interests in new and renewable energy have been increased. Therefore, in order to solving these problems, as solution of one, this paper is investigated using the aeration system at the fish farm, etc from nature energy such as wind power. This study suggests the fundamental data of designing for these similar apparatus and examines the parameters of wind velocity and wind receiving area. Especially, the water outlet position was mainly investigated with optimum outlet angle of wind pump.

  • 본 연구에서는 축산폐수공공처리장내에 설치된 Pilot-scale SBR(유효부피,20㎥)를 이용하여 sub-cycle의 폭기/무산소구간을 최적화하기 위하여 DO를 입력으로 하여 넓은 운전조건에서 적용될 수 있는 퍼지제어기를 개발하고, 또한 부하이상을 신속히 진단하여 유입부하량을 제어할 수 있는 퍼지 시스템 제어기를 개발하였다. DO값을 입력으로 한 퍼지제어기로서 안정성과 연속성에서 우수하였으나 시스템에 따라서 소속함수의 범위를 재조정해야 할 필요가 있다. DO미분값은 변화폭이 큰 지점을 검출함으로써 지연시간(lag time)의 DO값에 관계없이 적용할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 제어기의 적용성과 안정성을 높이기 위해서는 두 가지 제어인자를 동시에 고려할 필요가 있으며 퍼지 소속함수에 대한 입력으로서 DO값과 DO미분값을 적용하였다. 그 결과 폭기구간에서 매우 안정적이고 신속하게 폭기제어지점의 검출을 보여주고 있어 최적화된 제어가 가능함을 보여준다. 현장실험결과 지연시간에서의 DO가 높고 외란이 심한 경우에도 적용될 수 있음을 보여주었다.

A study on the fabrication of the polarization-insensitive semiconductor optical amplifier (저 편광의존성을 가지는 반도체 광증폭기의 제작에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we fabricated a 1.55um polarization-insensitive semiconductor optical amplifier(SOA) with rectangular buried heterostructure using a InGaAsP/InP double heterostructure wafer. Measured characteristics of the fabricated SOA are that 3dR bandwidth is 35nm and 3dB saturation output power is 4dBm. Maximum gain under the 150mA CW driving condition is 19.4dB. We measured the ASE(amplified spontanouse emission) Power spectrum or n and TM mode in the fabricated SOA using ASE measurement system and knew that distributions of the TE and TM mode about the maxinum region are nearly coincident. this shows the fabricated SOA is a polarization-insensitive.

Influence of Aeration Cycle on Nitrogen and Phosphorus Removal in Two-Stage Intermittent Aeration System (2단 간헐폭기 시스템에서 aeration cycle이 질소 및 인 제거에 미치는 영향)

  • This bench-scale research investigated the aeration cycle(on/off) as the controlling factors for nitrogen and phosphorus removal in a 2-stage, intermittent aeration process. At this experiment, the aeration cycle time(air-on/air-off) was 30min/30min, 60min/60min, 90min/90min. Organic matter removal was observed more than 90% regardless of the aeration cycle and phosphorus removal was relatively high when the aeration cycle time was 60min/60min On the other hand. For all of the aeration cycle, TN removal was appeared less than 55%. This result was probably due to the limitation of the external substrate for heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification.

  • Organic fouling observed in submerged membrane filtration as a pretreatment for seawater desalination increases energy consumption for membrane operation because of requiring frequent chemical cleaning and membrane replacement. In membrane pretreatment for seawater facing with algae blooms, membrane fouling was observed in submerged microfiltration using sodium alginate model compound which is one of the main components of extracellular polymeric substances. Without aeration, aglinate fouling increased with its concentration while aeration reduced the alginate fouling effectively regardless of its concentration tested. In the absence of aeration, alingate fouling tended to be decreased with increasing calcium concentration. However, this effectiveness was reduced by increasing sodium chloride concentration. At high concentration of sodium chloride and calcium similar to the seawater conditions, aeration reduced initial fouling. However, as time progressed, the effect of increased airflow rate on fouling reduction was not significant, implying that optimum airflow rate to control alginate fouling in submerged microfiltration can exist.

Study on the Standard Oxygen Transfer Efficiency Monitoring System in the Aeration Tank for Reuse and Discharge of Wastewater (하폐수의 재사용 및 방류를 위한 폭기조 내 표준산소전달 효율 모니터링 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • In this investigation, off-gas generated from the activated sludge in wastewater treatment plant was monitored. Through monitoring, the oxygen transfer efficiency in the aeration system and the reliability was evaluated by comparing to clean water. First, the dissolved oxygen, oxygen transfer coefficient, and standard oxygen transfer efficiency were measured based on clean water, and the values were 8.60 mg/L, 9.490/hr and 23.96%, respectively. The off-gas monitoring at the wastewater treatment plant indicated that the standard oxygen transfer efficiency was 22.81%. Little difference in oxygen transfer efficiency this data inferred that the performance was improved through diffuser installation in the field monitoring system.
