  • A Poisson model is the first choice for counts data. Quasi Poisson or negative binomial models are usually used in cases of over (or under) dispersed data. However, these models might be unsuitable if the data consist of excessive number of zeros (zero inflated data). For zero inflated counts data, Zero Inflated Poisson (ZIP) or Zero Inflated Negative Binomial (ZINB) models are recommended to address the issue. In this paper, we further considered a situation where zero inflated data are spatially correlated. A mixed effect model with random effects that account for spatial autocorrelation is used to fit the data.

  • Typical materials including concrete behaves with positive poisson's ratio when external force is applied. However, it is also available to manufacture a grating system which has negative poisson's ratio(Auxetic). In this study, double arrow type 2-D auxetic mesh was manufactured and mechanical behaviors were observed. Also, direct tensile tests of cementitious composites reinforced by auxetic mesh were performed and the results were compared with composites reinforced by typical mesh. The results showed that auxetic mesh more effectively restrained the deformation(shortening) of cementitious composites perpendicular to the load direction comparing with typical mesh.

  • This study observed the effects of auxetic mesh reinforcement in concrete on the mechanical characteristics under compression. Series of double arrow type 2-D auxetic mesh were manufactured and embedded into concrete specimens. Compression tests were performed and results showed that the application of auxetic mesh as concrete reinforcement can restrain the deformation of concrete resulting in the enhancement of stiffness of composites.

  • This study shows the possible use of the Poisson process for the characterization of dry year return period and duration. For the analysis we used an annual precipitation data, which has been collected since 1911 in Seoul. The highest threshold for the application of the Poisson process was determined to be the mean-0.5standard deviation, and then the results from the Poisson process are compared with the observed. Especially, the Poisson process was found to reproduce the mean duration and return interval quite well and show the possibility of using the Poisson process for the drought analysis.

  • It is common to encounter count data with excess zeros in various research fields such as the social sciences, natural sciences, medical science or engineering. Such count data have been explained mainly by zero-inflated Poisson model and extended models. Zero-inflated count data are also often correlated or clustered, in which random effects should be taken into account in the model. Frequentist approaches have been commonly used to fit such data. However, a Bayesian approach has advantages of prior information, avoidance of asymptotic approximations and practical estimation of the functions of parameters. We consider a Bayesian zero-inflated Poisson regression model with random effects for correlated zero-inflated count data. We conducted simulation studies to check the performance of the proposed model. We also applied the proposed model to smoking behavior data from the Regional Health Survey (2015) of the Korea Centers for disease control and prevention.

  • This study, investigates the effects of dispersion parameters between two response variables in zero-truncated bivariate generalized Poisson distributions. A Monte Carlo study shows that the zero-truncated bivariate Poisson and negative binomial models fit poorly wherein the zero-truncated bivariate count data has heterogeneous dispersion parameters on dependent variables. In addition, we derive the score test for testing the equality of the dispersion parameters and compare its efficiency with the likelihood ratio test.

  • In this paper we choose the best model among several bivariate Poisson models on Korean soccer data. The models considered allow for correlation between the number of goals of two competing teams. We use an R package called bivpois for bivariate Poisson regression models and the data of K-league for season 1983-2012. Finally we conclude that the best fitted model supported by the AIC and BIC is the bivariate Poisson model with constant covariance. The zero and diagonal inflated models did not improve the model fit. The model can be used to examine home-away effect, goodness of fit, attack and defense parameters.

  • In this paper, the threshold voltage characteristics have been analyzed using three dimensional Poisson's equation for FinFET. The FinFET is extensively been studing since it can reduce the short channel effects as the nano device. We have presented the short channel effects such as subthreshold swing and threshold voltage for PinFET, using the analytical three dimensional Poisson's equation. We have analyzed for channel length, thickness and width to consider the structural characteristics for FinFET. Using this model, the subthreshold swing and threshold voltage have been analyzed for FinFET since the potential and transport model of this analytical three dimensional Poisson's equation is verified as comparing with those of the numerical three dimensional Poisson's equation.

  • This paper aims to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by analyzing confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Daejeon. A high volume of visitors, downtown areas, and psychological fatigue with prolonged social distancing were considered as risk factors associated with the spread of COVID-19. We considered the weekly confirmed cases in each administrative district as a response variable. Explanatory variables were the number of passengers getting off at a bus station in each administrative district and the elapsed time since the Korean government had imposed distancing in daily life. We employed a mixed-effects zero-inflated Poisson regression model because the number of cases was repeatedly measured with excess zero-count data. We conducted k-means clustering to identify three groups of administrative districts having different characteristics in terms of the number of bars, the population size, and the distance to the closest college. Considering that the number of confirmed cases might vary depending on districts' characteristics, the clustering information was incorporated as a categorical explanatory variable. We found that Covid-19 was more prevalent as population size increased and a district is downtown. As the number of passengers getting off at a downtown district increased, the confirmed cases significantly increased.
