Limestone mine waste was used as a aggregate far permeable concrete. Void ratio, continuous void ratio, coefficient of permeability, compressive strength and flexural strength of concrete were measured and then the relationship between porosity and strength properties was investigated. Void ratio, continuous void ratio and strength properties of permeable concrete were greatly influenced by the grain size of aggregate and void filling ratio in comparison with the containing ratio of limestone mine waste. Furthermore, void ratio showed a good relation with continuous void ratio, and porosity of permeable concrete indicated a good relation with strength properties also. The coefficient of permeability of permeable concrete using limestone waste was over 0.2 cm/sec and was excellent result in comparison with normal concrete. Therefore, it could be expected that the limestone mine waste would be utilized as aggregate for pavement concrete, green concrete and water resource specie concrete in the results of this study.

According as industry develops rapidly, problem of resources exhaustion and environmental pollution is appearing. Way to use construction waste that is development of new compound material and Industry product is required. Limestone powder that is Industry product is $CaCO_3$. and vicosity is promotion effect because there is no damage to hydration of cement and powder is very thin and water tightness increases. This research purposed to analyze concrete property changing limestone fineness. According as the limestone powdered replacement ratio increases, slump and unit capacity mass increased, and the air content decreased according as the replacement ratio increases. Compressive strength and tensile strength decreased according as the limestone powder replacement ratio increases.

The aim of the research is providing a fundamental idea of reducing viscosity of cement based materials by replacing powder based material. With developing concrete technology, high performance concrete with high solid volume fraction has been used widely. Under the conditions of the high solid volume fraction due to the low w/c and replacement of SCMs, decreased fluidity is one of the critical problem, and thus plasticizer has been used to improve fluidity of the mixture. However, in rheological aspect, the fluidity of cement based materials can be defined with yield stress and viscosity, and using plasticizer only decreases yield stress without least controlling on viscosity. Therefore, based on the idea of Krieger-Dougherty model, a feasibility of wasted limestone powder from cement manufacturing process was used to decrease the viscosity of the mixture by replacing cement powder. According to a series of experiment, by replacing wasted limestone powder solely, there was a possibility of reducing viscosity was observed. Thus, in this research scope, it is considered to contribute on providing a fundamental idea of reducing viscosity with powder replacement and it is expected to contribute on further research using various conditions of replacing powders for reducing viscosity of cementitious materials.

Manganese in sludge precipitated during water treatment might be soluble again in effluent from sludge thickener. If that happens, the manganese concentration of effluent from water treatment plant will exceed the limit for clean reservation. In this study the influence of pH on Mn concentration of effluent from sludge thickener of water treatment plant was investigated. When the pHs of sludge solutions increased with alkaline materials such as NaOH, KOH, CaO, $Ca(OH)_2$, $CaCO_3$, the Mn concentrations of sludge solutions decreased under the limit. The Mn concentration of effluent from sludge thickener could be controlled with waste limestones from beneficiation process at limestone mine as an alkaline material.
An apatite drain was constructed on September 30, 1994 at the Green Valley Abandoned Coal Mine site near Terre Haute in west central Indiana. The primary objective of this experiment is to evaluate the long-term ability of the apatite drain to mitigate acid mine drainage (AMD) under field conditions. The drain 9 m long, 3.3 m wide, and 0.75 m deep, contain 95 rum to No. 30 mesh-size apatite ore (francolite) and receive AMD seepage from reclaimed gob piles, and designed according to the laboratory testing. The apatite drain was covered with limestone riprap and filter fabric to protect the drainage system from stormwater and siltation. The drain consists of about 50 metric tons of apatite ore obtained from a phosphate mine in Florida. A gabion structure was constructed downstream of the apatite drain to create a settling pond to collect precipitates. Apatite effectively removed iron up to 4,200 mg/l, aluminum up to 830 mg/l and sulfate up to 13,430 mg/l. The pH was nearly constant for the influent and effluent, ranging between 3.1 and 4.3. Flow rate measured at the gabion structure ranged from 3 to 4.5 l/m. Precipitates of iron and aluminum phosphate (yellow and white suspendid solids) continued to accumulate in the settling pond.

We investigate the availability of $CO_2$ ocean storage by means of chemical conversion of $CO_2$ to the dissolved inorganic carbon (mainly the bicarbonate ion) in seawater. The accelerated weathering of limestone (AWL) technique, which is accelerating the natural $CO_2$ uptake process through the chemical conversion using limestone and seawater, was proposed as an alternative method for reducing energy-related $CO_2$ emission. The method presented in this paper is slightly different from the AWL method. It involves reacting $CO_2$ with seawater and quicklime obtained from alkaline wastes to produce the bicarbonate-rich solution over 100 times more than seawater, which could be released and diluted into the ocean. The released dense bicarbonate-enriched water mass could subside into the deeper layer because of the density flow, and could be sequestrated stably in the ocean.
Soil filling or replacement are routinely applied for soil restoration of domestic asbestos waste contaminated areas. However, since these soil recovery methods could not fundamentally solve the asbestos contamination, number of research on new alternative technologies have been carried. In this study, comprehensive laboratory test results utilizing wind power apparatus are used to design wind power purification device that can be applied in practice. Preliminary tests were carried out with wollastonite or actual asbestos waste contamination soils to study purification efficiency. Asbestos content measured immediately after in-situ test on asbestos-contaminated soil satisfying for purification standard showing less than 0.25% asbestos content from all tests, hence, analyzed to ensure over 90% of clean soil recovery rate and considered to be excellent applicability of future asbestos-contaminated soil purification.
The purpose of this case study is to analyze the environmental and sociological impacts on a golf course construction at the damaged area of a previous limestone mine. Due to a long term of the open-pit mining, that site had been abandoned with geographical and ecological destruction before it was renovated to Ostar Danyang public golf course. This study is focused on the review of restoring the ecosystem through golf course construction procedures. Literature surveys of restoration through golf course construction in Japan and Canada were analyzed the procedure of utilization of previously existed lime mine. The sociological and environmental changes before and after construction were compared and analyzed. Environmental impacts on geographical, animal and plant ecology, and water quality were not affected or significantly improved after golf course construction from the mining site existed before. The local economy was also improved by increasing employment of resident and tax payment to local government. The construction of golf course could be one of the typical alternatives of ecological restoration of abandoned lime mine. Moreover in this project, minimizing the environmental impacts on surrounding ecosystem was emphasized by a larger size of developing construction. The harmonious lay-out on nature and artificial landscape were also considered a very first stage of construction procedure.

The aim of this research is providing a fundamental idea on reducing viscosity of high performance cementitous materials. In rheological aspect, to determine the fluidity of the cementitious materials, both yield stress and viscosity should be controlled. For the high performance cementitious materials with low water-to-binder ratio and high volume fraction, it was difficult to reduce the viscosity with superplasticizer while reducing yield stress was relatively easy. Hence, in this research, with the goal of reducing viscosity of the cementitious materials, both ways of reducing viscosity were suggested: achieving proper combination of powder conditions, and adding low-viscosity typed water reducer. First, by replacing various byproduct powders, specifically, raw coal ash and wasted limestone powder showed favorable results on reducing viscosity of the cement paste. Regarding the low viscosity typed superplasticizer, it showed a good performance on reducing viscosity comparing with generic superplasticizer. Therefore, based on the results of this research, it is expected to provide a fundamental idea on reducing viscosity of cementitious materials by various methods.
