There were 21 women as subjects for the research. The 21 women sorted the 34 statements using the principle of Forced Normal Distribution. The principle of Forced Normal Distribution, which has nine scales to measure the individual opinions, was called Q-Factor Analysis by using PC Quanl Program to supply the material. As a result, there were four categories(self-com-passion type, self-regulation type, self-perception type, self-abandonment type) of special opinion about the menopause experience in these women. • A certain group of phytochemicals such as isoflavone have been proven to act as a phytoestrogen. After thorough the study of different bibliographic herbs excluding soybeans, dates, pomegranates, and other publicized plants, three different edible herbs by Korean Food Regulation were extracted for the animal study on the effect of estrogen replacement. The herbal extract(FGF271) has been orally administered into 51 weeks old partial ovariectomized rats for 5 weeks with the different dosages of 100 and 1,000 mg/kg, respectively. It was observed that 1) serum estrogen level was increased in both 100 and 1,000 mg/kg group, 2) the distension of uterus was made dose dependently and significantly different in 1,000 mg/kg group (p.0.05) from control in the gross findings, 3) the weight of uterus was increased in 1,000 mg/kg group, and 4) the action on reproductive tissues was clear in the microscopic findings in terms of hyperplasia of endometrial epithelial cell, cystic change of submucosa, dilatation of uterus (significantly increased in 1,000 kg/mg), and follicular cystic changes in ovary. As a result, FGF271 seemed to act as a phytoestrogen by inducing the change in ovary and uterus and by increasing the serum estrogen concentration.

  • The present study comprehensively explored the experiences of cognitive decline and of overcoming such decline in climacteric women to gain a deeper understanding of these women's cognitive health issues. Fourteen climacteric women were recruited, and data were collected through in-depth qualitative interviews. The collected data were analyzed using phenomenological methods suggested by Colliazzi. The quality of the present study was further improved according to the evaluative criteria for rigor suggested by Lincoln and Guba. The interviews resulted in 210 statements, 43 significant statements, 17 themes, and 5 theme clusters. The theme clusters were "loss of memory and distraction in everyday life," "struggle to overcome," "greeting an inevitable guest," "conforming to life changes," and "dreams of the past and future plans." As they experienced menopause, the participating women experienced decline in memory and concentration, as well as problems communicating. Climacteric women experienced cognitive decline during menopause and made significant efforts to overcome it; therefore, effective programs that promote cognitive function and adaptation should be provided for climacteric women.

  • This study investigated the garments of middle-aged women undergoing menopause and their satisfaction with them. Data were collected through a survey of 288 middle-aged women and analyzed using SPSS 17.0. As a result (in terms of degree of symptoms) backache, arthralgia, muscular pain and heat sensation were indicated as significantly more outstanding in the menopause group rather than the menopausal transition group. As a countermeasure to physiological symptoms, a change of temperature (warming or cooling) was applied for backache and arthralgia as well as taking medicine for stomachaches and muscular pain. Body parts suffering from heat sensations were the face, back neck, chest center, waist and hip. Body parts suffering from arthralgia and muscular pain were the shoulder and hip joints. The most significant purchasing factor for menopausal women was the fit of outerwear and antibiosis in underwear; however, women not undergoing menopause selected comfortableness when moving as the most important factor. In terms of body shaping and thermoregulation function, the satisfaction degree in underwear was significantly different between the two groups. Menopausal women wanted functional underwear that provided functions such as thermoregulation, absorption of secretions, and antibiosis.

  • Over the last several decades, the incidence of malignant melanoma has been increasing rapidly. The annual incidence rates have increased approximately 3~7% in Caucasian population. The rate of increase is highest in perimenopausal period in women. The relationship between risk of melanoma and female hormone is still unclear. The safety of hormone therapy for the melanoma patients is not known. We experienced a case of melanoma in whom underwent hormone therapy for 10 years. We report this case with a brief review of literature.
