Structural analysis in Metal bipolar plate of Fuel Cell Stack (금속분리판 연료전지 스택의 구조 해석)

  • Mechanical behavior in metal bipolar plate of a fuel cell stack was studied using finite element analysis. The fuel stack is essentially composed of a metal bipolar plate (metal BP), a gasket, an end plate, a membrane electrolyte assembly (MEA), and a gas diffusion layer (GDL). It is important to maintain a suitable fastening force of Metal BP, because it influences the power efficiency of the fuel cell stack. After a gasket and a GDL are placed on the metal BP, the reaction force with the displacement is measured. The channel of metal bipolar plate is replaced by a simple geometrical plate. The results of FEM are similar to those of experiment. Therefore mechanical behavior in metal BP of a fuel cell stack can be estimated by using FEM.

Evaluation of Punching Shear for Flat Plates Using GFRP Plate Shear Reinforcement (GFRP 판을 전단보강재로 사용한 플랫 플레이트의 뚫림전단 성능 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigate the shear behavior of flat plate that reinforced by embedded GFRP(glass fiber reinforced polymer) plate with openings. Shape of the GFRP shear reinforcement is a plate with several openings to ensure perfect integration with concrete. The test was performed on 7 specimens to check shear strength of flat plate that reinforced by GFRP plate. The parameters include the spacing of the shear reinforcement and amount of the shear reinforcement. The result of test showed that when amount of shear reinforcement was increased, shear strength improved. The result of test showed that maximum shear strength was confirmed when spacing of shear reinforcement was 0.3d. The calculation of the shear strength of reinforced flat plate with GFRP plate based on the KCI was compared with the test results.

Analytical, Numerical, and Experimental Comparison of the Performance of Semicircular Cooling Plates (반원형 구조의 냉각판 성능에 관한 해석적/수치해석적/실험적 비교)

  • An analytical, numerical, and experimental comparison of the hydraulic and thermal performance of new vascular channels with semicircular cross sections was conducted. The following conditions were employed in the study: Reynolds number, 30-2000; cooling channels with a volume fraction of the cooling channels, 0.04; and pressure drop, $30-10^5$ Pa. Three flow configurations were considered: first, second, and third constructal structures with diameters optimized for hydraulic operations. To validate the proposed vascular designs by an analytical approach, 3-D numerical analysis was performed. The numerical model was also validated by the experimental data, and the comparison results were in excellent agreement in all cases. The validation study against the experimental data showed that compared to traditional channels, the optimized structure of the cooling plates could significantly enhance heat transfer and decrease pumping power.

Construct Validity of Korean Translated Gifted Rating Scale (한국어판 Gifted Rating Scale의 구인타당도)

  • This study examined the construct validity of a Korean translated version of the Gifted Rating Scales-School Form (GRS-S). Data were collected from five elementary schools in a metropolitan area and a midsize town in South Korea. Confirmatory factor analysis results indicated that the original factor structure (6-factor solution) fit the data collected from the teachers. However, the 6-factor solution did not fit the data collected from the parents. Thus, exploratory factor analysis was conducted for the parent data. The results showed that seven factors were extracted, and the factors explained 71.96% of the total variance. Unlike the original factor structure, some items of the academic ability scale were grouped with intellectual ability scale, and a creativity scale item and another academic ability scale item were an independent factor. The study outcomes provide preliminary support for a translated version of the GRS-S with elementary students in Korea. More detailed interpretations and implications of the results are discussed in the study.

Parameter Study for the Application of Ultra Thin Polymer Concrete Pavement (초박층 폴리머콘크리트 포장적용을 위한 매개변수 해석)

  • Base on Korean design code, previous design code had not considered the effect of pavement on the orthotropic steel deck, however recent design code (Limit State Design Method, 2012) allowed to consider the effect of pavement on the orthotropic steel deck, and efforts to apply the stiffness of pavement to the deck continue. Meanwhile, research on the effect of ultra thin bridge deck overlay on the orthotropic steel deck is inadequate, previous study was limited in about fatigue stress and performance between pavement layer and the orthotropic steel deck. In this study, according to changing of pavement layer stiffness application, pavement materials, pavement thickness and steel deck thickness, analysis of deflection. In addition to base on this result, consider effectiveness of ultra-thin pavement stiffness application on the orthotropic steel deck.

Recognition System of Car License Plate using Fuzzy Neural Networks (퍼지 신경망을 이용한 자동차 번호판 인식 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method to extract an area of car licence plate and codes of vehicle number from a photographed car image using features on vertical edges and a new Fuzzy neural network algorithm to recognize extracted codes. Prewitt mask is used in searching for vertical edges for detection of an area of vehicle number plate and feature information of vehicle number palate is used to eliminate image noises and extract the plate area and individual codes of vehicle number. Finally, for recognition of extracted codes, we use the proposed Fuzzy neural network algorithm, in which FCM is used as the learning structure between input and middle layers and Max_Min neural network is used as the learning structure within inhibition and output layers. Through a variety of experiments using real 150 images of vehicle, we showed that the proposed method is more efficient than others.

Investigation of Low Velocity Impact Behavior of Laminated Composite Plates Considering the Stacking Method (적층방법에 따른 복합적층판의 저속충격거동 조사)

  • Laminated composite plates have shown their superiority over metals in applications requiring high specific strength, high specific modulus, and so on. Therefore, they have used in various industry. However, they have poor resistance to impact compared to typical metal materials. So, many researchers have investigated about impact behavior of laminated composite plate. To investigate impact behavior of laminated composite plate, we have to calculate contact force between impactor and laminated composite plate at the first. Impactor's equation of motion, plate's equation of motion and correlations for indentation were solved to know the contact force at the same time. In this study, low velocity impact behavior of composite plate was investigated using the finite element program which is involved the classical Hertzian law, Sun's law and Sun & Yang's experimental law and Sun & Tan's experimental law considering the stacking method.

Behavior of PSC Composite Bridge with Precast Decks (프리캐스트 바닥판 PSC 합성거더 교량의 거동)

  • PSC composite bridge with precast decks which was designed by the proposed horizontal shear equation was fabricated. Fatigue test was performed to evaluate the endurance of shear connection and the behavior of PSC composite bridge. After all the fatigue loading were applied, no crack and no residual slip were occurred. The flexural stiffness of PSC composite bridge was maintained the initial value, and demage of shear connection was not occurred. To verify the applicability of horizontal shear equation and shear connection detail and to evaluate the strength of PSC composite bridges, static test was also executed. PSC composite bridges with precast decks had 2.08 safety factor which was the ratio of crack to serviceability load and showed ductile behavior after ultimate load. Test results showed that the proposed design equation of the shear connection gave reasonable horizontal shear connection design. Fast and easy construction would be achieved using the suggested precast system.

  • The interest in evaluation of structural intensity arises for practical reasons, because net energy flow distribution offers information of energy transmission path, positions of sources, and sinks of vibration energy. In this paper, structural intensity analysis of local ship structures using finite element method(FEM) is carried out. The purpose of this analysis is to evaluate the relative accuracy according to mesh fineness. The structural intensity of unstiffened and stiffened plates varying their mesh fineness is analyzed and the results are compared with those obtained by the assumed mode method. As results, the proper mesh size in qualitative/quantitative structural intensity analysis of plate structures is proposed. In addition, the propagation phenomenon of vibration energy is investigated for the thickness-varying flat plate, L-type plate, and box-girder structures.

Evaluation of Static Behaviour of Orthotropic Steel Deck Considering the Loading Patterns (하중재하 패턴을 고려한 강바닥판의 정적거동 평가)

  • The deck of steel box girder bridges is composed of deck plate, longitudinal rib, and transverse ribs. The orthotropic steel decks have high possibility to fatigue damage due to numbers of welded connection part, the heavy contact loadings, and the increase of repeated loadings. Generally, the local stress by the repeated loadings of heavy vehicles causes the orthotropic steel deck bridge to fatigue cracks. The increase of traffic volume and heavy vehicle loadings are promoted the possibility of fatigue cracks. Thus, it is important to exactly evaluate the structural behavior of bridge considering the contact loading area of heavy vehicles and real load patterns of heavy trucks which have effects on the bridge. This study estimated the effect of contact area of design loads and real traffic vehicles through the finite element analysis considering the real loading conditions. The finite element analysis carried out 4 cases of loading patterns in the orthotropic steel deck bridge. Also, analysis estimated the influence of contact area of real truck loadings by the existence of diaphragm plate. The result of finite element analysis indicated that single tire loadings of real trucks occurred higher local stress than one of design loadings, and especially the deck plate got the most influence by the single tire loading. It was found that the diaphragm attachment at joint part of longitudinal ribs and transverse ribs had no effects on the improvement of structural performance against fatigue resistance in elastic analysis.
