  • This paper suggests a new modulation strategy for step pulse type multi-level inverter. The proposed strategy is simple to determine the switching angles without regard to increase of levels. Designed to extract the equivalent RMS value compared to ideal sine wave from inverter, it can be applied effectively to high level step pulse inverter. Also this paper proposed modulation strategy for modified H-bridge 13 level inverter which has different cell source voltages with simulation and experiment. The modulation characteristics from simulation and experiment, agreed very well with tracing sine wave about modified structure of cascaded H-bridge multi-level inverter.

  • An experimental study has been carried out at circulating water channel to investigate the viscous flow around breaking waves generated by a submerged hydrofoil(NACA0012). Detailed flow measurements were made at several critical points including an incipient wave-breaking point and a fully-developed wave breaker. Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV) was employed to visualize the flow field very close to the breaker as well as at the near- and far-wake of the breaker. Generation, development and decay of the wave breaker have been investigated. It is found that PIV technique could be well applied to the complex flow field, including the vortical structures near the free surface as well as the wake of the hydrofoil.

  • Submerged structures such as low-crested breakwaters and artificial reefs have been commonly used for coastal protection. In this study, two-dimensional laboratory experiments were conducted in a wave flume to investigate the wave transmission phenomena of permeable type submerged structures armored by Tetrapods. Different cases of the experimental conditions were included by relative crest depth, relative freeboard, relative crest width, wave steepness and so on. An empirical formula from the experimental data was proposed to predict the wave transmission coefficients over various specifications and structural designs of the permeable type submerged structure. The proposed formula successfully predicted the wave transmission coefficients. In this study, the proposed empirical formula of the wave transmission over the submerged structure was improved from the existing formula.

  • In this paper an embedding algorithm based on commute time is implemented by organizing patches according to the graph-based metric, and its performance is analyzed by comparing with the results of principal component analysis embedding. It is usual that the dimensionality reduction be done within some acceptable approximation error. However this paper shows the proposed manifold embedding method generates the intrinsic geometry corresponding to the signal despite severe approximation error, so that it can be applied to the areas such as pattern classification or machine learning.

  • Most of conventional ultrasonic transducers are constructed to generate either longitudinal or shear waves, but not both of them. We investigated the mechanism of dual mode transducers that generates both of the longitudinal and shear waves simultaneously with a single PZT element. A piezoelectric ceramic PZT has the hexagonal 6mm crystal symmetry, after poling. We studied the performance of a PZT element as a function of its rotation angle so that its efficiency is optimized to excite the two waves equally strongly. The results are verified by checking the impedance variation of the element with Finite Element Methods, and checking the wave form by pulse-echo test simulation. Validity of the theoretical calculation is verified through experiments.

  • Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) offers the advantages of simple and robust motor construction, high speed and high efficiency over a wide operating range of torque and speed, excellent controllability. However SRM has the disadvantages of high current harmonics, and low power factor because the required output of speed and torque is produced by the discontinuous and loss of power system, and brings about the incorrect operation of electronic system. This paper deals with an energy efficient converter fed SRM system with the reduced harmonics and improved power factor. The validity of the proposed scheme is verified via experiments. We are implemented the proposed control system using 80C196KC micro-controller.

  • The delay-lock loop (DLL) is a statistically optimum device for tracking the de]ay difference between two correlated waveforms. In this paper an extended n - $\Delta$ (n=1,2,3‥‥) DLL is described, and its baseband performance including the frequency to lose lock is analyzed. The present DLL system employs a correlator and a pseudonoise sequence synthesizer that has been improved from the previously used ones The shape of the correlator characterigtic has the form of expanded S-curve. Despite of increase noise, this extended DLL has desirable characteristics in tracking range and initial synchronization time. Comparing a 3 - $\Delta$ DLL with a 1 - A DLL, the former Bives three times faster initial synchronization time with the serial synchronization method, and gives two times immunity against doppler shift.

  • In this paper, we present microwave characteristics of traveling-wave photodetectors (TWPD) using the finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD). Current and voltage in the time domain are calculated by the FDTD. Also, characteristic impedance and propagation constant in frequency domain are obtained from the time-domain data. As the thickness of i-layer gets thicker and the waveguide width gets narrower, TWPD's show less microwave loss and higher velocity. The 50Ω impedance matching design is achieved for 2.4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ waveguide width and 1.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness of i-layer at 100 GHz.

  • Wave overtopping is one of the most important processes for the design of seawalls. The term "wave overtopping" is used here to refer to the processes where waves hit a sloping structure run up the slope and, if the crest level of the slope is lower than the highest run up level, overtop the structure. Wave overtopping is dependent on the processes associated with breaking wave. A numerical model based on Navier-Stokes equation and the Marker-density function for predicting wave overtopping of coastal structures is developed in this paper. In order to evaluate the present model, two simulations are tested. One is overflow without waves at vertical seawall, and the other is wave overtopping at sloping seawalls.
