  • The analytic solution of wave scattering of monochromatic waves on a pile breakwater by an eigenfunction expansion method is extended to the case of directional irregular waves. The scattering wave spectrum and the force spectrum can be expressed from the reflection coefficient, transmission coefficient and the wave forces obtained from changing frequencies and incident angles in monochromatic waves. By numerical integration of 2-dimensional spectrum which is function of frequencies and incident angles, the representative values for the scattered waves and wave forces are obtained and the dependence of the transmission coefficients and wave forces on the directional distribution function, the principal wave direction, the submergence depth, and porosity is analyzed.

  • The wave load and its influence on the response of offshore structure have been well investigated through the statistical approach based on the linear theory. The linear approach has a limitation to apply the extreme condition such as extreme wave, which corresponds to extreme value of wave spectrum. The main topic of present study is to develop an efficient numerical method to predict wave load induced by extreme wave. As a numerical method, finite element method based on variational principle is adopted. The frequency-focusing method is applied to generate the extreme wave in the numerical wave tank. The wave load on the bottom mounted vertical cylinder is investigated. The hydroelastic response of the vertical cylinder is also investigated so as to compare the wave loads with the rigid body case in the extreme wave condition.

  • Although the number of blasting operations in urban area are growing, lesser attentions have been paid to the effects of impact load on nearby concrete structures. In this study, the properties of concrete were obtained by both the sonic velocity and Schmidt rebound tests, and the degree of damage in concrete material was evaluated by measuring the sonic velocity in sample before and after applying the impact load. The test results shows that the sonic velocity decreases with the increase of intensity of impact load, and the degree of damage in concrete samples is lower when the samples have higher strength and sonic velocity.

  • The analysis of dynamic responses are carried out on several orthotropic systems due to transient line source. These include infinite and semi-infinite spaces. The media possess orthotropic or higher symmetry. The lode is in the form of a normal stress acting with parallel to symmetry axis on the plane of symmetry within the materials. The results are first derived for responses of infinite media due to a harmonic line source. Subsequently the results for semi-infinite are derived by using superposition of the solution in the infinite medium together with a scattered solution from the boundaries. The sum of both solutions has to satisfy stress free boundary conditions thereby leading to the complete solutions. Explicit splutions for the displacements due to transient line loads are then obtaind by using Cargniard-DeHoop contour.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the main program and pre/post processor for the geometric and plastic non-linear analysis of steel jacket structures subjected to wave and earthquake loadings. In this paper, steel jackets are modelled using geometric non-linear space frames and wave loadings re evaluated based on Morrison equation using the linear Airy theory and the fifth Stokes theory. Random wave is generated using JONSWAP spectrum. For earthquake analysis, dynamic analysis is performed using artificial earthquake time history. Also the plastic hinge method is presented for limit analysis of steel jacket. In the companion paper, the pre/post processor is developed and the numerical examples are presented for linear and non-linear dynamic analysis of steel jackets.

  • Dynamic properties of materials by shock loads such as rock blasting and earthquake are recently attracted in the design of aboveground and underground structures. The advance of measuring devices enables to obtain the whole histories of stress and strain in rock specimen of which the failure is completed in several hundred microseconds. The SHPB has been a popular and promising technique to study the dynamic behavior of rock. And the dynamic compressive, tensile and other test with this experiment system are planned to be Suggested Methods of ISRM. This technical paper is to introduced one study article which focuses the design of 3S (special shaped striker) to produce the half-sine wave to eliminate the problems of the rectangular wave. This article is also describing the advantage of half-sine incident wave and size effect of rock dynamic strength.

  • A mathematical model, GUNBLAST, of blast waves emitted from a gun muzzle is established, and structural response analyses for the blast load are performed. The blast wave can be divided into two kinds of waves, free field and reflected blast waves. In this research, the free field blast wave model is established by the use of a scaling approach, and the reflected blast wave is calculated by using the oblique shock theory and computational fluid dynamic calculation. GUNBLAST is applied to two kinds of structural models. To investigate the effect of the muzzle distance from a structural surface, the blast waves on a plate for various muzzle distances are compared to uniform loads. Moreover, the transient response analysis of an aircraft wing model with a 12.7mm gun is carried out by using MSC/NASTRAN. From the results, it can be shown that the blast wave can cause broad random vibration and high frequency damage to equipments mounted in the aircraft.

  • Structural stress under shock or impact load is varied with the lapse of time and the structural stress is called stress wave. Propagating longitudinal stress wave is studied in a 2-dimensional plate. A finite element program for elastic stress wave propagation is developed in order to investigate the shape of stress field at time increment. The longitudinal stress wave is generated by unit step function. According to the finite element analysis results, the longitudinal stress wave propagates to the similar direction of impact load and the front of stress wave propagates with the same speed as analytic solution and the shape of stress field is similar to that of analytic solution. The shear wave is occurred after the longitudinal stress wave and declined at an angle of 45 degrees compared with longitudinal stress wave and the speed of shear wave is about a half of the longitudinal stress wave. The intensity of shear wave is larger than that of longitudinal stress wave.

  • In this paper, a higher harmonic control (HHC) methodology is applied to find the optimum input scenario for the vibratory hub loads reduction. A comprehensive aeroelastic analysis code, CAMRAD II, is used to model the HART (Higher-harmonic-control Aeroacoustic Rotor Test) II rotor, and parametric study is conducted for the best HHC inputs leading to a minimum vibration (MV) condition. The resulting outcomes are compared with the earlier HART II test results. It is indicated that the control input adopted in the MV condition showed less satisfactory results. The new MV condition obtained in the present investigation can achieve 45% lower vibration level than the baseline uncontrolled condition. The optimum HHC input results lead to 3/rev harmonic input having $0.8^{\circ}$ amplitude and $350^{\circ}$ phase angle. About 5% reduction in the required power is possible but accompanies with the increase of vibration level.
