  • Recently, a lot more disasters in the temporary structures happen because the stabilities of the temporary structures are disregarded by the reduction of the unit cost, using defective materials, the existing materials and so on. Pipe supports, which are one of the temporary structures, are basically used for the most constructing works such as buildings, bridges, plants and so on. In the most sites, adequate support installations of the pipe supports have not been performed although the presence of the guideline legally and institutionally. In this study, therefore, the collapse accidents of the pipe supports were investigated on the basis of theoretical analysis as well as the buckling tests by simulating the site support condition. Both the theocratical analysis and test results show that the buckling load in the fixed ends is at least 4 times larger than one in the pinned ends. This results will be utilized for safety assurance as well as accident prevention the in the field application.

  • As of July 1, 2017, the method of quality management of construction equipment had been changed completely. In case of manufacturing and distributing pipe supports, the support length according to the safety certification standard shall be not more than 6 m and the compressive strength shall be not less than 40,000 N at the maximum height. However, the field tests for the quality control standard were usually performed at 3.5 m when the length of the pipe supports is 3.5 m to 4.0 m, and the compression strength was specified to be more than 35,300 N. This difference in the two standards can cause confusion in practice. In this study, the compression load of the pipe supports was tested and found to be more than 30% defective. Therefore, it is necessary to review the modification of the safety certification and quality standards to improve the standard requirements.

  • Formwork is a temporary structure that supports its weight and that of fresh concrete as well as construction live loads. Slab formwork consists of sheathing, stringer, hanger and shore. In construction site, pipe supports are usually used as shores which are consisted of the slab formwork. In this study, compressive strength of 80 pipe supports was measured by knife edge test and plate test. Buckling load of pipe supports was analyzed by structural analysis program(MlDAS). Theoretical buckling load with/without initial deformation was got by theoretical analysis. According to these results, buckling load which was analyzed by structural analysis program(MlDAS) was larger than compressive strength of knife edge test and plate test. Theoretical buckling load without initial deformation was larger than compressive strength of knife edge test and plate test. But Theoretical buckling load with initial deformation was lower than compressive strength of knife edge test and plate test. Initial deformation equation for test method according to the pipe support length was suggested. Therefore, the present study results will be used to design the slab formwork safely.

  • For the purpose of supporting Curved Blocks, pipe welding is commonly used on Curved panel. Typically, when it comes to attaching supporting pipe on heavy incurvated surface, it makes much loss in the process of design, cutting, welding. This paper gives proper methods to collecting problems and Core conflicts surrounding Support Pipe by using of TOC (Theory Of Constraints). Therefore drawing two solutions, pipe development program and NC generating from pipe development Data for Plate Cutting machine. It describes a process of erasing loss surrounding Support Pipe with "TOC Thinking process" and development of two programs in this paper.

  • Among the accidents and failures that occur during concrete construction, many are formwork failures which usually happen when concrete is being placed. A system of formwork filled with wet concrete has its weight at the top and is not basically a stable structure. Slab formwork consists of sheathing, stringer, hanger and shore. There are several types of adjustable shores. In construction site, pipe supports are usually used as a shore of slab formwork. In this study, pipe support systems with/without horizontal connector were measured by buckling test. Buckling load of respective pipe support system was analyzed by structural analysis program(MIDAS). Buckling load of pipe support with/without horizontal connector was got by test and structural analysis. According to these results, we know that horizontal connector made pipe support system very safe. Buckling load of pipe support with horizontal connector is 56% higher than that without horizontal connector. So horizontal connector is important in slab formwork systems. Finally, the present study results will be used to design slab formwork system safely in the construction sites.

  • As the prefabricated shoring system structure, which is a temporary structure, is often collapsed due to various reasons during concrete pouring, and directly affects not only the safety of the workers but also the quality of the final building, it is necessary to ensure the safety. It is considered that the pipe supports which are widely used as the prefabricated shoring materials in the construction site do not satisfy the performance criteria in many cases. Therefore, this study investigated the detailed conditions for satisfying the performance criteria and suggested the factors for improving the quality control level in order to prevent collapse accidents due to pipe supports reused at the construction site, As the results of test in order to understand the effect of the pipe supports (V2), which are being reused in the field, on the performance by factor, the performance was evaluated to be high in case of the small female screw clearance and the supporting pin with 12mm in diameter or larger.

  • It is considered that most of reusable pipe supports, which are used as formwork support posting at construction sites, do not meet the performance standard. Due to the use of reusable pipe supports that do not meet such performance standard the potential risk of collapse accident is increasing. Therefore, this study identifies the status of compliance with performance standard, and presents the requirements for improving quality control to prevent the collapse of pipe supports reused at the construction site. First, if the female thread of the product with no clearance and new support pin with the diameter of 12mm are replaced at the same time for use, it is considered that the performance will be improved. Second, as the quality performance during use can be improved in the case of larger thickness of inner diameter compared to the case of larger thickness of outer diameter, it is necessary to increase the inner pipe thickness greatly than the current thickness. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that the performance the reusable pipe support (V4) can be improved, if the diameter of the support pin is 12mm, the female thread has a small clearance, and the inner tube thickness is 2.3 ~ 2.7mm. In addition, it is considered that other performance improvement factors included in the study results could be used as important data for improving the performance of reusable pipe support.

In constructions site, pipe supports are usually used as shores which are consisted of the slab formwork. The strength of a pipe support is decreasing as it is frequently being used at the construction site. Among the accidents and failures that occur during concrete construction, there are many formwork failures which usually happen at the time concrete is being placed. The objective of this study is to find out the strength change of used pipe support and unused pipe supports according to aging. In this study, 2857 pipe supports were prepared. Among these pipe supports, 2337 pipe supports were lent to the construction companies free of charge. 520 pipe supports were kept on the outside. Compressive strength was measured by knife edge test and plate test at each 3 month. Test results show that the strength of unused pipe supports as well as used pipe supports was decreasing according to age, use frequency and load carrier, and the strength of used pipe supports was lower than the strength of unused pipe supports at the same age. So, the strength of used pipe supports from 191 days to present day was not satisfied the specification of KS F 8001. In this study, the strength of pipe support according to age, use frequency and load carrier was predicted using SPSS 12.0. It was known that the strength of pipe support using for 5 years was reduced to 42.8%. According to these results, it shows that attention has to be paid to formwork design using used pipe supports. Therefore, the present study results will be able to provide a finn base to prevent formwork collapses.
