Study on the downmix method of parametric multichannel audio codec (파라메트릭 멀티채널 오디오 코덱의 다운믹스 방식에 대한 연구)

  • DVD/BD 및 HDTV의 보급으로 인해 다수의 오디오 컨텐츠들이 멀티채널(5.1채널 이상) 형식으로 제작되고 있다. 오디오 정보를 담고 있는 물리적인 채널의 수가 증가하면, 이에 따라 정보량도 선형적으로 증가하게 된다. 선형적으로 증가된 정보를 기존의 오디오 코덱을 이용해 큰 압축할 경우, 압축에 필요한 비트레이트의 선형적인 증가를 피할 수 없다. 최근 채널 수 증가로 야기되는 비트레이트의 증가를 최소화하고 효율적으로 멀티채널 오디오 신호를 압축할 수 있는 방법으로 MPEG surround와 같은 파라메트릭 멀티채널 오디오 코딩 방식이 제안되었다. 파라메트릭 멀티채널 오디오 코딩 방식의 경우, 멀티채널 오디오 신호를 채널 수가 감소된 다운믹스 신호와 다운믹스 신호로부터 다시 멀티채널 오디오 업믹스 하는데 필요한 파라미터로 표현하는 방식이다. 따라서 다운믹스 방식 및 업믹스에 필요한 파라미터에 따라 업믹스된 멀티채널 오디오 신호의 품질이 달라진다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG surround에서 사용하고 있는 기존의 ITU-R 다운믹스 방식의 문제점을 실제 멀티채널 오디오 신호의 사례를 통해 제시하고 이 문제점을 해결하기 위한 새로운 다운믹스 방식과 파라미터를 제안하고자 한다.

  • An overview of the recently finalized multi-channel audio coding standard MPEG Surround is provided. This audio coding standard downmixes multi-channel signals to mono or stereo signals and, simultaneously, extracts spatial parameters for its encoding process. In its decoding process, it reconstructs multi-channel signals based on the downmix signals and spatial parameters. Since the downmix signals are coded in conventional audio coding format such as AAC and MP3 and the spatial parameters require a small amount of information MPEG Surround guarantees high sound quality multi-channel audio at low bit rates. Besides, it is backward-compatible to conventional audio coding techniques because the downmix signals can be played on portable audio devices ignoring the spatial parameter information. In this paper, Part 1 presents an overview of the basic structure of MPEG Surround and Part 2 describes various modes and tools including the binaural mode which supports the virtual 5.1-channel playback via headphones or earphones. The listening test results by various companies and organizations are also presented.

  • This study develops a day-to-day dynamics modeling framework, incorporating a consistent drivers' travel time perception behavior and traffic information provision. Descriptive traffic information is updated and provided to the subscribers making a final decision on route choice. Nonsubscribers(not equipped any information devices) are assumed to obtain daily traffic information from their experience or friends or other public agencies. Drivers' route choice behavior is modeled based on boundedly-rational behavior rules. A microscopic traffic simulation model is adopted to evaluate the network system performance. Numerical experiments on a real world network have demonstrated the convergent property of the proposed model and the effectiveness of the consistent perception model.

  • 본 논문은 멀티채널 오디오 신호를 두 채널의 다운믹스신호와 서브밴드별로 추출된 부가 정보로 표현하는 파라메트릭 멀티채널 압축 방식에 관한 연구이다. 기존의 파라메트릭 멀티채널 방식에서 사용하는 부가 정보로는 ICLD, ICC, OPD, IPD 등이 있다. 본 논문에서는 부가 정보로서 phase관련 파라미터를 사용하지 않고, 채널간의 level difference에 상응하는 파라미터와 새로 제안한 diffuseness 계수를 사용하여 우수한 압축 성능을 보이는 파라메트릭 멀티채널 코딩 방식을 제안하고, 그 성능을 기존 방법과 비교하고자한다.

Capacity of Urban Freeway Work Zones (도시 고속도로 공사구간 용량 산정)

  • This paper aims to estimate work zone base capacity by the number of lanes for urban freeway. To do this, data were collected from the field survey and the database system maintained by traffic control center, and analyzed with four different methods such as the average maximum observation flow rate, headway, regression analysis, and parameter inspection. The work zone base capacity for urban freeway is estimated based on the average maximum observation flow rate and headway method, which are more reliable methods compared to others. The average capacity is 1,650pcphpl when the design speed is 80km/h. The capacity of four lanes one-way work zones was about 1,700pcphpl, while one of 2 lanes one-way work zones was about 1,600pcphpl. The capacity reduction rates for each are 0.15 and 0.2, respectively. The smaller the number of lane is, the more base capacity is reduced. For verification of results, we estimate the capacity by simulation analysis using PARAMICS, and compare with analytical results by a statistical method. This research can be used for efficient and systemic management of work zone in the urban freeway.

  • This study identifies the relationship between traffic data quality obtained from loop detectors and their location. Traffic data basically shows traffic flow conditions and thus, these information can be used as inputs for various transportation management strategies. Out study presents how to determine optimal downstream detector location on merging area in order to enhance the effects of ramp metering strategies. Microscopic simulation model, PARAMICS, is used as the main analytical tool. Assuming that detector location relies heavily on traffic flow characteristics in each roadway segment, we perform statistical analysis to identify homogeneous traffic conditions on merging area.

  • Car following model is a theory that examines changes of condition and interrelationship of acceleration deceleration. headway, velocity and so on closely based on the hypothesis that the Posterior vehicle always follows the preceding vehicle. Car following mode) which is one of the research fields of microscopic traffic flow was first introduced in 1950s and was in active progress in 1960s. However, due to the limitation of data gathering the research depression was prominent for quite a while and then soon was able to tune back on track with development in global positioning system using satellite and generalization of computer use. Recently, there has been many research studies using reception materials of global Positioning system(GPS). Introducing GPS technology to traffic has made real time tracking of a vehicle position possible. Position information is sequential in terms of time and simultaneous measurement of several vehicles in continuous driving is also practicable. Above research was focused on judging whether it is feasible to overcome the following model research by adopting the GPS reception device that was restrictively proceeded due to the limitation of data gathering. For practical judgment, we measured the accuracy and confidence level of the GPS reception devices material by carrying out a practical experiment. Car following model is also being applied in simulations of traffic flow analysis, but due to the difficulty of estimating parameters the basis of the above result. it is our goal to produce an accurate calibration of car following model's parameters that is suitable in this domestic actuality.

  • Spatial Audio Coding 방법 중 하나인 Binaural Cue Coding 방법은 다채널 다객체 오디오 신호를 모노나 스테레오로 다운 믹스한 신호와 spatial 큐를 전송해 디코더에서 복원하는 기술로 작은 비트 율로 다채널 오디오 신호를 전송 복원해 내는 기술이다. 본 논문은 BCC 코딩 방법에서 채널 상관도를 나타내는 ICC 파라메터에 따라 spatial cue 종류를 달리함으로써 전송되는 부가정보의 비트 율을 줄이는 방법을 제안한다.

Analysis of Truck Management Strategies Impacts on Highway (고속도로 상에서의 트럭교통 관리전략에 대한 영향 분석)

  • The study analyzes likely impacts of left truck lane restriction strategies on urban freeways based on a traffic simulation model. This study contains two main parts. The first part is performed to develop feasible alternatives as well as provide insights into conditions under left truck lane restrictions would be effective based on the analysis of two representative hypothetical highways. Different levels of O-D demands and truck percentage is at least restrictions would work when maximum rate of flow is more than 1,300vphpl or truck percentage is at least over loft of the total traffic. The second part of our study concerns a case study on a region with perhaps the highest truck volumes in the U.S. - a northbound section of Interstate 710 corridor in Los Angeles County, Southern California. The results show that restricting the two leftmost lanes under congested traffic with heavy ruck use, provides the most positive impacts in terms of improving the flow of traffic and saving fuel. In addition, our study demonstrates that in general, the number of lanes restricted is a crucial factor in the success of this strategy.

  • In this paper, we propose a synthesis method that can effectively suppress the ambience which affects tonal components in the PS decoder. Ambience component was obtained by using decorrelation filter and the weighting of the ambience in the decoder was determined through IC parameter. However, since the parameters are extracted in the sub-band domain, a low IC value could be analyzed even if the tonal component is dominant. The quality of the output signal may be degraded. To prevent this problem, the tonality was measured in the downmixed signal and the weighting of the ambience components were adjusted appropriately according to the measured tonality index. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by simulations. Furthermore, the subjective test was performed and the results confirmed that the proposed method offers improved quality.
