With Pb-free solder joints containing Sn-Ag-Cu-based ternary alloys (Sn-1.0 wt.%Ag-0.5Cu and Sn-4.0Ag-0.5Cu) and Sn-Ag-Cu-In-based quaternary alloys (Sn-1.0Ag-0.5Cu-1.0In, Sn-1.2Ag-0.5Cu-0.4In, Sn-1.2Ag-0.5Cu-0.6In, and Sn-1.2Ag-0.7Cu-0.4In), fracture-mode change, shear strengths, and fracture energies were observed and measured under a high-speed shear test of 500 mm/s. The samples in each composition were prepared with as-reflowed ones or solid-aged ones at $125^{\circ}C$ to 500 h. As a result, it was observed that ductile or quasi-ductile fracture modes occurs in the most of Sn-Ag-Cu-In samples. The happening frequency of a quasi-ductile fracture mode showed that the Sn-Ag-Cu-In joints possessed ductile fracture properties more than that of Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu in the high-speed shear condition. Moreover, the Sn-Ag-Cu-In joints presented averagely fracture energies similar to those of Sn-Ag-Cu joints. While maximum values in the fracture energies were measured after the solid aging for 100 h, clear decreases in the fracture energies were observed after the solid aging for 500 h. This result indicated that reliability degradation of the Sn-Ag-Cu-In solder joints might accelerate from about that time.
Curing behavior and interfacial properties were evaluated using electrical resistance measurement and tensile/compressive fragmentation test. Electrical resistivity difference (${\Delta}R$) during curing process was not observed in a bare carbon fiber. On the other hand, ${\Delta}R$ appeared due to the matrix contraction in single-carbon fiber/epoxy composite. Logarithmic electrical resistivity of the untreated single-carbon fiber composite increased suddenly to the infinity when the fiber fracture occurred under tensile loading, whereas that of the ED composite reached relatively broadly up to the infinity. Comparing to the untreated case, interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of the ED treated composite increased significantly in both tensile fragmentation and compressive Broutman test. Microfailure modes of the untreated and the ED treated fiber composite showed the debonding and the cone shapes in tensile test, respectively. For compressive test, fractures of diagonal slippage were observed in both untreated and the ED treated composite. Sharp-end shape fractures exhibited in the untreated composite, whereas relatively dull fractures showed in the ED Heated composite. It is proved that ED treatments affected differently on the interfacial adhesion and microfailure mechanism under tensile/compressive tests.

In this study, the probabilistic internal pressure fragility analysis was performed by using the non-linear finite element analysis method. The target structure is one of the containment buildings of typical domestic pressurized water reactors(PWRs). The 3-dimensional finite element model of the containment building was developed with considering the large equipment hatches. To consider uncertainties in the material properties and structural capacities, we performed the sensitivity analysis of the ultimate pressure capacity with respect to the variation of four important uncertain parameters. The results of the sensitivity analysis were used to the selection of the probabilistic variables and the determination of their probabilistic parameters. To reflect the present condition of the tendon pre-stressing force, the data of the pre-stressing force acquired from the in-service inspections of tendon forces were used for the determination of the median value. Two failure modes(leak, rupture) were considered and their limit states were defined to assess the internal pressure fragility of target containment building. The internal pressure fragilities for each failure mode were evaluated in terms of median internal pressure capacity, high confidence low probability of failure(HCLPF) capacity, and fragility curves with respect to the confidence levels. The HCLPF capacity was 115.9 psig for leak failure mode, and 125.0 psig for rupture failure mode.
The recycled polyethylene composites with various ratio of ground waste tire powder were manufactured by using a fully intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder for the reuse of waste tire scrap. In this investigation, the ground waste tire powders (GWTP) were blended with virgin HDPE and recycled polyethylene in the weight ratio of 0 to 50 wt.%. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elongation at break and impact strength were measured by using ASTM standard. The experimental results for the various composite showed that the tensile strength of composites decreased with increasing GWTP ratio, while elongation at break increased with the amounts of GWTP. On the other hand, the impact strength for the three kinds of composites showed maximum at the 30 wt.% of GWTP and then decreased. Morphology of the fracture surface tends to be rough with increasing waste tire powder content. Rheological properties were investigated by measuring the shear viscosity against shear rates and softening temperatures. They showed that melt viscosity of rubber composites in this study subsequently increased with increasing GWTP content as a result of increase of flow resistance against external stress and followed a Power-law behavior.
Many researches on the application of stainless steels as structural steels have been performed thanks to their material properties such as superior ductility and corrosion resistance. Ferritic stainless steels(STS430) with little or no nickel have been used increasingly in building structure because it is inexpensive compared to austenitic stainless steels(STS304) with nickel, but provide performances similar to the austenitic stainless steel. This paper deals with block shear fracture behavior of base metal in stainless steel welded connection. Although the block shear fracture behavior for welded connection due to stress triaxiality is different from that of bolted connection, the block shear strength of welded connection in current design specifications has been predicted based on that of bolted connection. The main parameters are weld length and welding process(Arc and TIG welds). The ultimate strengths of TIG welded specimens were higher than those of arc welded specimens and current design predictions by AISC, EC3 etc. were compared with test strengths.

The ferritic 9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb heat-resisting steel was experimentally studied in order to characterize its microstructural evolution during creep-fatigue by coercivity measurement. The creep-fatigue test was conducted at $550\;^{\circ}C$ with the tensile holding time of 60s and 600s, respectively. The coercivity decreased until the failure and the hardness monotonously decreased for the whole fatigue life. As the life fraction of creep-fatigue increased, the $M_{23}C_6$ carbide coarsened following the Ostwald ripening mechanism. However, the MX carbonitrides did not grow during creep-fatigue due to so stable at $550\;^{\circ}C$. The width of martensite lath increased because of the dislocation recovery at the lath boundaries. The magnetic coercivity has an influence on the microstructural properties such as dislocation, precipitates and martensite lath boundaries, which interpreted in relation to microstructural changes. Consequently, this study proposes a magnetic coercivity to quantify the level of damage and microstructural change during the creep-fatigue of ferritic 9Cr-1Mo-V-Nb steel.
The specimens of two base metals and material friction-welded with hetrogeneous steels of SM40C and STS304 have been prepared and the characteristics of rupture and crack propagation of them have been examined. In the friction-welded material, the width of HAZ is 3.0mm for STS304 and 3.4mm for SM40C. The hardness distribution in HAZ of SM40C is decreased gradually as being getting off interface, but that in HAZ of STS304 is decreased remarkedly and the value of hardness becomes a little lower than that of the base metal in region of 1mm from interface and becomes a little higher than that of the base metal. The tensile strength of the friction-welded material appeared a little lower than that of the base metal and rupture by tensile load is developed in HAZ of STS304 and the position of rupture is at region of low hardness(1mm from interface). The crack propagation rates(da/dN) in both HAZ of the friction-welded material are a little higher than those in both base metals, but the difference are less except for the case of SM45C in low .DELTA. K value. It has been ascertained that the crack in the interface propagates selectively along the HAZ of SM40C and consequently the crack propagation rate is almost similar to that in the HAZ of SM40C.
Linear and cross-linked waterborne polyurethanes (WPUs) based on isophorone diisocyanate and mixed diols of poly(tetramethylene glycol)/hydroxyethyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS-OH) were synthesized with dimethylol propionic acid as an anionic component, trimethylolpropane as a cross-linking agent, and butanediol as a chain extender and characterized. The hydrophobicity, $T_g$, stress-strain behaviors of the linear or cross-linked siloxane-containing WPU (WPU-Si) films with different PDMS content were analyzed by using water contact shape analyzer, energy dispersive spectrometer, dynamic mechanical analyzer, and universal testing machine. The results reveal that as the PDMS content increased, the hydrophobicity of WPU-Si films increased, $T_g$ moved to higher temperature, the breaking stress increased, and the breaking strain decreased.

This study measured the mechanical and damping properties of EPDM compounds including fillers. Semi-reinforcing furnace black (SRF), high abrasion furnace black (HAF) and acetylene black were used as fillers. Dicumyl peroxide (DCP) were used as curing agents. The measurements were conducted using a moving die rheometer (MDR), durometer, universal testing machine (UTM), compression set and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The tensile strength and elongation at break increased with increasing SRF contents in EPDM compounds. However, they decreased with increasing the amount of acetylene black. In the inspecting temperature range, EPDM compound filled acetylene black had stable storage modulus. Furthermore, the tan ${\delta}$ of the EPDM compounds obtained was enhanced by compounding with acetylene black.

This paper presents a nonlinear analysis method for the reinforced concrete beams strengthened by the external bonding of high strength, lightweight fiber sheets on the tension face of the beams. The method is based on the results of experimental studies. The experimental study involved tensile tests of 120 specimens to evaluate the tensile properties of fiber sheets(carbon, glass, and aramid fiber) and bending tests of 75 beams strengthened with various types of fiber sheets to evaluate the flexural capacities. Based on these experimental results, reasonable rupture strains of the fiber sheets were estimated. The nonlinear flexural analysis considered nonlinear flexural stresses as compressive and tensile stresses of concrete, load-deflection curves, and rupture strains of fiber sheets. The nonlinear flexural analysis accurately predicts the load-deflection response and the flexural behavior of the retrofitted beams.
